Football coaching changes

Recommended Posts

Do players revolt over concussions? In my day, players weren't soft enough to complain about playing with a bang to the head.

Did players in your day wear leather helmets? What's happening with head injuries in all levels of football is a bit frightening when you look at these folks who's been through multiple concussions.

Some of these comments on deadspin...lol

Even worse: the coach forced them to play for Columbia.

Football at Columbia hasn't mattered since it served as something for Kerouac to quit.

Pro-tip- If you're going to abuse kids for football, avoid Ivy Leaguers with connected parents and no chance at pro-ball. Good luck getting a job coaching frisbee football after this, guy.

We all had concussions (under today's definition) at some point in our playing days. Players who are dissatisfied with coaching will say anything to put the coach on the hot seat. The "c" word and mishandling it will cost a coach to get fired. That's exactly what they wanted and what they effectively got.

Why did the entire team turn on him like this?

As for concussions... Sure it can be used to this effect and I'm inclined to belive it's being used here to oust the coach but there is mounting evidence to the real and not perceived dangers of concussions especially repeat concussions. Seems like people still think that you should play through them...and if you can't remember where you are, perhaps kids shouldn't try to play through that. After all... It's a "game".

I'm not saying players should play through serious head injuries. Society as a whole has been turning soft, so it wouldn't be surprising to see a player or two complaining throughout the college level and pro level about playing. The overwhelming majority of football players are tough and would play if given the choice. In this Columbia case, it's exactly how DF describes it. Due to be ivy league slobs and control freaks, they are railroading a coach because either they don't like him, or they think he sucks as a coach, or both. Best not blow the entire story into something it probably isn't, based on one or two disgruntled people.
