UA vs. Cuse (2/21/16) - TWCable/ESPN3

Recommended Posts

There's a reason why the coach's son is at Hopkins and not at UA.

I beg to differ on being below par with Syracuse from an academic standpoint.

I agree with 96, that UA is most definitely on par academically with cuse. And I am pretty sure Scott's son is NOT @ Hopkins for academics. As for recruiting with cuse; we have the last two Tewaaraton Award winners {the BEST player in the country}. Since cuse's last championship in 2009, we have made the quarters twice, they only once. We have advanced further in the tournament every year except 2013 when they were runner's up. Except for 2010 & 11, our final season ranking was @, near or higher's than cuse. I got these stats from scanning the ncaa finals brackets from 2010 to 2015 and I may be off a little as I did this very quickly. But I am pretty confident we NOW are recruiting on the same plain as cuse.

I disagree. If we are on the same plain as Syracuse why aren't multiple all-americans coming to play at UA. I do think we are on the same plain as them in recruiting the Native players, where in the past the best would always go to Syracuse.

Good to see them wearing the Thompson cleat. Hopefully Lyle hooked the team up with plenty of gear.

UA 08: check out this years class:

Noah Taylor 2015 Inside Lax all american

Jack Burgmaster 2015 inside Lax all american

Sean Eccles 2015 US Lax all american

Chaunce Hill 2015 US Lax all american; Tewaraaton scholarship winner

Erik Dluhy 2014 Under Armour all american; 2015 #63 overall recruit in nation, #14 @ defense

That's five in this years class alone; there was at least two maybe three the last year. 7 or 8 in 2 years.

I do not know how many cuse got; but I would guess may be 10 in the last 2???

Also, this year two of cuse's best player are transfers; and I believe both have 2 years or less eligibility.

My assessment of Frosh talent was anecdotal from the game. Their Frosh seemed to stand out - could have been the announcers. UA, nor any SUNY is on par with SU sport recruiting. SU is a gorgeous private school with good academics (banter all you want about this program or that, SU has decent creds) and tons of support from NYS tax payers (as are all NY private colleges). That we compete at all with them in Lax is a testament to a very strong UA program. Obviously we don't in Bball (women's ??) or Football. Only occasionally has our T&F program been competitive (I'd like to see our annual dual with UConn extended to a tri with SU!). Whether or not our Frosh recruits are on par with theirs it was apparent that they are bigger and faster and probably deeper, with a high skill level. It's not that we can't overcome this with better coaching and teamwork. It's more that this is much harder early in the season. Despite the seeming futility of winning the game, I have to trust the coaching staff who keeps scheduling the game for it's value to the program.
