Is WNYT and Roger Wyland creating "Fake" news?

Rodger responds in his Quick Take

Much ado has been made about the fact that the Times Union got scooped on the hiring of Jamion Christian at Siena. Here's the bottom line: Good reporting is going the extra mile and not believing an official talking head without working your own sources to get the real story. We knew -— and reported accurately — the story five days before anyone else. Anyone who claims otherwise is suffering from a case of sour grapes.

Rodger did what he is suppose to do, report the news. All the BS about official permission to speak with candidates is just that BB!!!!

Siena's people spoke to Christian's people well in advance of the announcement. That is why Rodger reported it, he just didn't pull Christian's name out of the air.

You have to understand what the TU is and in that context you'll understand why you see them author a piece like this. The TU is NOT an objective entity when it comes to covering college basketball in the CD. The TU is essentially a propaganda outlet for Siena and are diligent in their efforts to prop up the team that plays in the building they bought naming rights to. When folks realize this to be the self-evident truth that it is...their stories and how they report on Siena makes that much more sense.

Case in point, Siena people in an effort to force Patsos out, leaked dirt to the TU and used them to smear Patsos or at best (if he's guilty) air the dirty laundry to embarrass him into accepting a buyout. 'Nuff said!!!!

Exactly.

Too often times useless just acts as an LCC mouthpiece.

As wyland put it"good reporting is going the extra mile and not believing an official talking head without working your sources to get the real story "

Could he be talking about mark S there ( as an example of a poor reporter) :)

Roger Wyland is just towing the WNYT promo line... If catch the news some evening on WNYT ... you will see the ad about the crusading WNYT news staff  .... this topic was open by me when, Roger Wyland reported Siena College was interested in Will Brown.  Did Roger attempt to speak with Will?  To my knowledge he did not (and add insult to injury Roger's delivery style at times on this story was gleeful) Perhaps the reason is that Will Brown was having lunch with the beat reporter from the T - U.  This resulted in a positive story about Albany's basketball newest recruits.  Has Roger given any coverage to this story line?  Last thought .... news print or television ... we will have issues with the Albany coverage ... let's stop worrying about the Siena coverage :)

If WB is intent on staying in the Albany area out of family considerations, then his only other option to UA is LCC. It’s his only leverage. So despite his seeming loyalty to UA, it would be prudent to dangle a bit of “interest” out there to keep UA a bit on edge concerning his contract. Not saying he did what I just laid out...but it would not be surprising either.

We should learn to take any Media with a "Grain of Salt".

Yep. Like anything else, especially spokesman for the school. I would have been surprised if Will Brown left for that school. Not surprised at all especially allegedly with a search firm that Will Brown would meet the criteria. I don't know what LCC parameters were , but Will Brown should continue being the best basketball coach in the capital district as he has been for a while now :)

 • 2 weeks later...

I "have heard" that Roger Wyland is working on his list of questions for Albany's introduction of the new women's basketball coach ... I hope the new coach is prepared for the Sports Anchor ready to ask that extra question to weed out the truth .... :)

Yes, I know it is summer .... quite on the campus ....  however Roger has paid little attention to Scott Marr association with the world games in Israel .. Will's efforts to re-build the basketball ?team ... Those other things reported on www.UAlbanysports.com  ... Come on media relations ... light a fire ?under Roger
