Game 1: MBB vs. Lehigh 11/09 7PM

Recommended Posts

That was an absolute disaster on both sides of the ball. They flat out don't play any defense. If that doesn't improve this is essentially the same team as last year. Hero ball, bigs are All absolute zeros or worse. Don't know what I just watched but that was not basketball, a lot of work to do on both sides.

Brutal... And bitterly disappointing after the summer tour etc.

How many four-footers did we miss? Too many trips got the ball inside with no result.

On the goaltending/technical, didn't we get the rebound? Doesn’t seem right we only get a chance for one point and have to give the ball back.

Nope.  He got his own rebound.

ZERO leadership on the court. I hope that's corrected if Anderson comes back

This is a game we should have put in the W column.I

From where I sat Hutcheson was the only player to have a solid game.

Need to go to amicas high school and kidnap him. The pg play is a disaster, bigs suck. I don't know when it happened but this program over the last two years basically quit playing defense. They don't defend, they take no pride on that end of the court. It's all hero ball on offense and stand around on defense waiting to get the ball back and go shoot.

On several occasions Clark gets the ball... Runs up the court makes zero passes and shoots or drives. Not one attempt to move ball... Zero. Just dribble up court and shoot. This is the same team we saw last year win 12 games. Zero maturity and growth. Despicable.

I've never heard/seen him before in this role but maybe I missed some games last year. Wild!

Charlie was the play by play man before Roger. Also has done football, lacrosse and women's BB over the years; both on tv and radio. Is much better than Roger. Hope he is a regular now!

Agree on all counts. Missed a lot of lay-ins; plus Lehigh had 7 blocks. I was also confused why we did not get he ball after the T.

Also, a lot of to's. Looked like a deja vu; last year all over again as Yogi would say.

Lehigh was better than expected. They lost their 3 top scorers from last season, but brought in some nice pieces. Some polls had them as high as 4th in the Patriot league. IMO this game all came down to 2 main things:

  • Terrible shooting: Shot 30% from the floor for most of the game. Most of the the 3's were open looks. I didn't feel they were forcing the outside shot. Lehigh dared us to take them, and we missed. Throw in so many missed layups and easy shots and it is going to be hard to win.
  • Defensive Intensity in the half court. Lehigh had their way with with the team. We couldn't cut off the baseline for the easy lay-ins, didn't box hard enough on the defensive glass, and just looked lost on the pick and roll / give and go. It felt like Lehigh shot 75% the floor (when it was closer to 50%)

I was impressed with the full court pressure. With the athletes and length we seem to have, I would love to see us do this for a higher percentage of the game. Especially when Anderson returns and we have another body to run.  There were definitely some positives, and that was a great run over the last 4-5 minutes. It was just too little too late to turn up the pressure.

People have gotten on Clark for a few possessions he definitely forced, but I thought he did a real good job for the most of the game. It was when the team was down big that his hero mentality took over and the moment of the game really amplified it. I think Healy had more forced situations than Clark. I know Brown yelled at him for it and even put him on the bench for a bit because of it.

Anyone have an update on French? He was on the bench, but in a warmup suit.

Trey Hutcheson was playing his first college game and looked like the most experienced guy out there last night.

Ahmad Clark does some things really well but I swear he takes more bad shots in one game than Mike Black, DJ Evans and Evan Singletary did in their careers. The new box score format that records + and - minutes are pretty revealing (he was -10.) He gambled on a couple of steals that lead to easy baskets as well. I can't imagine the film sessions is going to be kind.

When someone hit a three early and then did that Lance Stephenson "air guitar" thing I got a bad feeling about where this team's head was.

People can kill our bigs and I get it, but our guards just chucked up a lot of shots without running any kind of offense and without anyone else getting touches. They made it awful easy for Lehigh to get the ball into Kamick.

Doherty made a nice entry pass. Overall, the freshman were solid.

In some respects, this isn't that shocking. Lehigh looked like a team that had already played a game and we looked like it was our first game of the season. We'll see how we adjust.
