I also left after the 4th qtr; I had an appointment. Weather was actually pleasant--sunny no wind-would have stayed for another it was a fun afternoon. St Johns is ether really bad or UA will be surprising a lot of people. I had qtr score breakdowns of 7-4; 13-7 @ ½; 19-8 after 3 and 20-11 final {st's last 3 goals were all man up against subs with their last with 9 seconds left. As Hof said, Nanticoke and Hogg combined for 10+ goals and almost that many assists between them. I was VERY happy to see McComber get a hat trick playing as the 4th attack with the first string and a late goal playing the 3 with the subs. His first goal was a man-up laser, but I was very impressed with his second goal--he made an awesome move to lose his man on the side line and blazed in for the goal. His 3rd was another laser after beating a short stick out front. His last was a nice wrap around and the only goal UA had in the 4th. Speaking of wraps #5 Chase Noah had one in the 3rd. I do not think he played in the first ½.  Casey also had a laser man-up goal early and a wrap around in the 3rd. After, $ienna I tried to pay special attention to McComber and Noah and I am pretty sure of their #s. Think Yunker had a punch of assists, but hard to keep track without the public address announcer.

As much as I was impressed with the offense, the most satisfying thing was UA's RIDE. Caused @ least 3-4, 20 second violations and at least that many steals. And the 50-50 face-off wins was really a result of the wing play. Actual clean draws were few.Thought Altamari was better than Jones again; but neither very good still.

The D was outstanding and regularly stole the ball. The D-middies did give up a few, but even they played well in my opinion.

That's it; attendance about 50--please feel free to add and/or correct.

I did overhear someone say something about another scrimmage and Marr plans on using the walking wounded in the last scrimmage. Do not know if this is true or maybe heard it wrong???

Speaking of mia's, I have not norticed #7 Mitch Laffin even on the sideline, either game??

I think, just my opinion, that McComber will be man out when Jakob returns.  Hogg is GOOD!   Will likely be subbed in a lot, same with Diamond.  Don't know about Skidders, Ron John will obviously play a lot if health, don't know anything about Seneca.  They are of course freshman.  As is aid the faceoff wins were largely getting ground balls after the clutch.  I agree the faceoff was and is a weakness for us.  It is what has scared me for two years now.  Not sure if they are improved or not. Altimari needs to be FAR more aggressive after the clutch BUT he did seem better than Jones today.  Laffin MIA - you are correct.

Just saw the Times-Union article with some comments from Coach Marr where he talked about face offs and wing play and said both need to get better.

Agree

That's disappointing to hear since I think we have a trio of very competent guys who can play wing. Don't know if it is a personnel issue or how they are working together as a group and being coached.

I think we have seen enough to know that unless something crazy happens we are going to be a  40% - 50% at best team at the X and how do you plan for that knowing it going into a game, and it will be even worse against the teams with strong FOGO's.

Wings have got to do a better job.  They were there after and during the scrums and they were aggressive.  Just seem not to come up with the ball as much as they should.  I think they actually tried several guys on the wings.

I thought the wings played pretty well actually. Since UA was 50-50 at the X and I think there was only 1 clean win, plus 2 stj violations all day. Stj had a number of clean wins; so really our wings got us the ball well over ½ the time they were involved in the scrum.

True, but going against Cornell, Yale, Maryland, Syracuse they must be far more aggressive - FO is the weakest position on the team and could make UA a good team or a mediocre team!

Been thinking about kids that are not suited or even visible on the sidelines during the scrimmages.  There are always reasons why kids don't play or become MIA.  A couple of kids on the FB team were Academically Ineligible.  They must maintain a certain level of achievement in the classroom.  Not sure but it may be a "C". The coaches actually got special permission for at least one to stay on the team but not participate.  Kids may be injured, they may even be sick.  Coaches can be holding guys out as a precaution after recovering from a serious injury [re: coach Marr's comment in the recent article posted above].  It is just guessing on our part to make comments about each guy.  Just thought I'd throw that out there for comment!

Hopefully any guys who are on the fence academically can pull it together. I am a bit concerned on some of the injuries at this point and that we couldn't get a few key guys healthy in the off season.

I got a few more reports after the St John's game. My hunch, no inside info, is that unless Patterson and Burgmaster are a clear 100%, we are not going to see them until the UMass game, but I will be happy to eat some crow on the prediction. Players want to play, but the fact that none of them have played in either scrimmage (no inside info) is that they are not ready to go. Chemistry or lack of, was such an issue last year that if Marr felt comfortable playing them they would have been on the field.

The sliver lining is that the trio of Tehoka, Hogg, and Yunker is a more than competent trio. I agree with the comment above that McComber likely gets bumped when Patterson returns, and from what I have seen, while I love Burgmaster's outside shot I haven't seen enough consistency from him to see him as one of the top 3-5 players on the team. With the maturation of Tehoka, if Patterson can play at a high level, the combination of Tehoka, Patterson, Yunker, Hogg, McComber and then throw in some middle production from Burgmaster, Schwab, Casey and a few others and you suddenly have a Dane team with a lot of offensive punch.

On defense I love the physicality that Kunz and Kozar are brining. I love Hay's technical skills, but just don't see him as a close defender unless he hits the weight room. I believe that Filipowski has been nicked up but don't know what may be hurting, and it will be interesting to see if and when he is good to go what the starting trio will be down low.

Face off's are going to be interesting. I imagine we will see a lot of double poling and once again if things go south a pole on the face off. One change I noticed is that we are running three LSM's so expect to see a lot more pressure on the face off and overall really trying to force the action defensively. If we can't get to 50/50 I think Marr will throw the kitchen sink at it. I am just guessing here, but I think that is one of the reasons they moved Weathersby to LSM since he was the most effective pole last year taking face offs. Piseno, Barrow, and Weathersby gives us some good options on the wings and up top.

The goalies will have to steal some goals abasing the better teams since we are going to be on the short end getting the ball off the draw.

Wasn't able to see any of that Maryland game, but they must have really turned it on in the 2nd half.

I did not watch the 4th of any of them.   Was jumping for the 2nd and 3rd.
