Let’s get political....or not

I’m wondering where other BPF members come down when it comes to using sports, but more particularly, Great Dane sports, as a platform for political statements. I know what it’s causing me to do, basically writing off pro sports for the time being. I won’t watch or support them in any way. The same will be true with the Danes if I see what I consider to be political statements other than patriotic such as the Veterans Day uniforms and festivities.

BLM is a patriotic statement and if you can't see that 🤷‍♂️

BLM movement (as in, treat each other the right way - 100% agreed)...but the BLM 'organization'? That makes white people feel like they should be sorry for being white? Trash and a farce.

That being said, I'm fine with 'political statements' as long as they are applied equally/not in a hypocritical manner.

  • Example: I have no issues with LeBron James being vocal about social issues. Social issues exist. I get that. I see that. I hear that. Kneel, put something on your jersey, raise your fist...have at it, I have zero problem with it. Heck, my family left the Soviet Union due to social issues.
  • Example 2: I have MAJOR issues with DUMBASS LeBron James being vocal about issues in the US but telling people to shut up and calling them uneducated when they try to make light of THE SAME (OR WORSE) ISSUES in other countries WHERE LEBRON DOES BUSINESS (read: where American's do business). LeBron can screw ALLLLL the way off. He owes Daryl Morey a VERY public apology considering what has transpired in HK the last weeks/months (actually, so does Adam Silver and the NBA). To LeBron, issues are only important if 1) they affect black people in the US (but not black cops, black babies or other black people who actually disagree with him and support cops, etc.) and 2) if they affect his bank account. The people in Hong Kong facing worse issues than Blacks in America? Not a problem for LeBron. Blacks facing injustice or rough conditions in the inner city (some of which is their own doing - lets not kid ourselves)...LeBron is upset. LeBron is a hypocrite who is only concerned about his image and wallet. If he helps 10 or 200 kids along the way, cool, but the bottom line is for him to be on a pedestal. Just look at how he acts at his sons basketball games...taking the spotlight from him.

That's where I stand. Take it or leave it.

TL;DR: Be a political SJW but be uniform across the board. Otherwise, it's just hypocritical nonsense.

Agreed blorp...

Do I want the players on the court holding pro Biden or Pro Trump signs? Nope. That would be upsetting.

Will it bother me if they take a knee during the Anthem, not a bit. Kneeling is a sign of respect, but showing that something is wrong. Like when a kid gets hurt in a little league game we have all the other kids take a knee. This is by far the most patriotic way to display their concern with the direction of the country, and to pay respect to the lives lost in the name of equality.

BLM is a political organization, not a patriotic statement. The statement “black lives matter” I can certainly get behind, but it doesn’t meet any definition of patriotic I can find.  Like Eli said, that’s where I stand...take it or leave it.

"Black lives Matter" - Is a racist 100 percent statement.

They advocate for something that makes up a micro fraction of the issues. They ignore the thousands of black people (some children) killed in several cities. Is there racism this country....absolutley.  But dont scream that the "police are the issue". Look in the mirror first.

Change the name to "All Black lives matter." And I will get behind that.  As long as they protest the dozens of black people killed in Chicago every week as well.

There is freedom of speech in this country and I respect that. However please don't have an issue with people saying "BLUE LIVES MATTER" as well.

  • Blue lives do matter.
  • White lives do matter
  • All lives do matter

Please remember, just because we raise awareness for breast cancer in October, it doesn't mean we are saying that prostate cancer isn't also an issue. Just because someone says save the whales it doesn't mean Bing all the other fish in the sea. We should all support BLM.

The issues of race or so multifaceted that you can't argue about black on black crime or someone will remind you that crime is local and the racist policies of the 40s-70s literally forced people to move to certain neighborhoods. Literally stole property value and equity. Crime is based on life situation and locality - most crimes occur within 2 miles of someones home. Why aren't people talking about white on white crime? (hint: that's the majority of crime in the US)

BLM is an important movement that needs to be heard by people across the country. Have bad things been done in its name? Yup!

Are their bad cops that ruin the reputation of the good cops? Yup! Are their good cops? Yup!

Should we shut up and try to listen to a people that have been marginalized for centuries? Yup!

Carry on. I'll try to keep politics out of future political comments.

Anyone who thinks the statement 'black lives matter' is racist, or is intended to make white people feel sorry for being white, has a fundamental misunderstanding of what the movement is about. Please, let me try to help you understand....

Right now, when you hear "black lives matter' you're interpreting it as "black lives matter more than white/blue/latino/asian lives", which is incorrect. That is *not* what the movement is about, but unfortunately many have been lead to believe this by people who want to delegitimize the movement.

The correct way to interpret is: "black lives matter too". If you understand this, then there is no reason to respond with "all lives matter" because BLM is inherently about all lives (black/white/latino, etc) mattering. It is meant to reinforce that black lives matter as much as all other lives, and their issues should be taken as seriously as all others.

Hope this helps.

Probably a more eloquent way of saying the same thing I did. Thank you.

I'm not arguing the movement . Good for them . I wont be a part of it . However If it means "Black lives matter too". Then change the name. Because it does not say that. I can think of several things that mean something different by adding 1 word to the end of it. It would make things more simple of you just say what you mean. There are several BLM activists, Shaun King comes to mind, that says BLM ....not BLM too . He does not like the too at all. So what you said is not 100 percent true from one of the founders.

Good for the movement. I do think some things need to change. When the bigger issues change then I will get behind it . Not before.

Also I dont disagree with anything anyone has said in this thread at all ... I wont get behind the movement ... which is my right ... its everyone else's choice to get behind it. If you want to support it then great please do.

Am I a racist .... I dont think so... I can honestly say with all my heart that I have NEVER treated anyone different because of their skin,gender...ect....

It's just something I wont be a part of YET!!!!

Doesn't matter when all I hear is 'white privilege this, white privilege that' in conversations, MSM, etc. I agree with your post, but to many people, being white is now somehow their 'fault'. Trying telling those people who are being made to feel that way by the BLM organization and/or MSM that there is a 'too' in there somewhere.

BLM and their cover statement of Black Lives Matter is fine. Problem with BLM is once you get past the front door. As someone born and raised in Soviet Union ... what they advocate and stand for is truly frighting once you get past the statement. Primarily of concern for me are their strong ties to Marxist communist idiology...having had a front row seat to this party first half of my life...I speak not of theoraticals. Founders of the movement personally verbalize this so this is not debatable.

I have no problem with players kneeling...it's a free country (mostly still)...do what you gotta do. I'll defend your right to do it. But there will NEVER be a day that I support the BLM movement in its present form unless such a time where they renounce their Marxist roots and idiology. I will never understand their unwillingness to speak out or protest against the horrendous murder rate in inner cities. But that's an entire different conversation. BLM is a front to usher in socialism...there is a reason that fringe far left groups cling to BLM.

Having said that....my pledge will always to be treat all with respect (unless I'm ranting here after a loss...lmao...I make no promises).

I hope that makes sense...

MadDog, we are on the same wavelength here. I believe all lives matter. Black lives matter too. The inherent problem here is that the organization, Black Lives Matter, has highjacked a phrase with great meaning and there seems to be a binary where you must state “black lives matter” or you are a racist, when it truly should be “all lives matter.” The organization BLM I cannot and will not support in any way. They are a radical leftist group that could care less about any black life except those that are politically useful to their agenda. If they truly cared they would be expending all of their energy trying to put a dent in the 7,000+ deaths per year among young African Americans, mostly at the hands of other young African Americans. I think if the NAACP had come up with “black lives matter” as a slogan it would have been much less controversial because it would not relate to a leftist group of radicals who want to defund police, eliminate the nuclear family and follow socialism. This is why it totally frosts me that pro sports are throwing in with BLM. It’s not “black lives matter” because they do, of course they do, it’s Black Lives Matter...and that organization is not one I can get behind
