  1. No need to debate. But am very comfortable in my statement. If Coach Brown wanted to trade in and leverage up he could have at several schools NEVER mentioned on this board. I don’t post behind an alias so I can’t and won’t say more, but my take is that he was too Loyal.

  3. While true (and you and i know how true), that just means the Athletic Director failed at his job to provide the resources. Put simply, what has Benson done that has moved the needle or put Albany through the proverbial next checkpoint since the McElroy days? The AD's job, among other tasks, is to: 1) Manage a department, inclusive of resources; 2) Promote the school; 3) Advance community outreach, town/gown; and 4) Fundraise to ensure that the departments have the resources they need. Track and field, nationally prominent program, doesn't even have a scoreboar

  4. Nineteen years in one place as a head coach is almost unheard of these days. Coach Brown built a program from nothing into something and delivered some incredible memories along the way. He will be in the school’s HOF and probably down the road should be honored in the arena in some way. He was all class and ran a very clean program. This was also a very unique situation in that the coach was able to coach in what was basically his family’s hometown - so we benefited and his family’s quality of life benefited. I am sure every one of us on this board during CB’s tenure became proud to pound our

  6. Have to say I think it’s laughable that Coach Brown hasn’t been extended. The results you get at UAlbany in relationship to the budget, facilities and other factors is beyond measure. This does not mean from a coaching perspective it can’t be better, there is always room for growth and improvement. But second guessing a coach is one of the easiest things one can do. Based on what I know and have experienced, Coach Brown’s results far exceed the circumstances. He is likely a victim of his own previous successes. There was an inflection point with the program that the university missed tha

  7. I don't doubt CB will find a job some place, just sucks his family has ties here, ppl grew up here, have to move because of Benson and his personal dislike for them. Benson is a bulldozer who has zero ties to the area... I have zero faith in any direction he has taken our programs nor that he will stay the long haul. Fan experience pre-covid was all time worse at events, do we have to talk about parking, football seat debacle, kicking people out of stands at bball.. I mean this guy, no bueno. As an alumn I want to be able to cheer on my Great Danes, I do.. I just don't see this going

  8. LOL.. thats what you're focusing on today. If you are talking about hiring a coach ... there is a difference when you hire a coach for a low mid major school vs a mid major school. That is why I was delineating the difference..as in who are you going to hire? And yes I do have personal ties to the school as an alumni and program as a season ticket holder who mingles with the same fans, players and coaches family's because I travel to games, and support this team. That's how an alum becomes personal with a team. Which is why it burns me that Bensons BS of personal dislike is what lead to

  9. Listen...if you want this to be about production on the court, I'm all about having that type of talk and debate those merits. However, from what I have seen online and from people here, this smells a lot like it has less to do with production.

  10. Trying to digest all of these posts...but I'll copy what I put on FB: Great guy who ran a clean program but after 5 years of not winning, it may be for the best for both parties. Brown's hands are tied behind his back with a completely inept Athletic Administration (UA is getting left in the dust with facilities, etc. - lots to be said there but I'll bite my tongue) but he also hasn't recruited as great as he once did. It was time. Wish him the best and I will have fond memories of the 2000's and 2010's with Brown at the helm. If you're reading this Brown, go get yourself a better A

  12. This has been corroborated with a bunch of other reports...the end of an era. There will be plenty of time to discuss why, how and now what. Coach Brown will always be remembered as a legend and I thank him and his family for the immeasurable contributions to the UA program. This will take a while to process.

  13. Ultimately if he's here long enough he will be judged on his decision. The move to extend Gattuso has paid off in the short term. Having said that...we need to be competitive with top of the AE and if we are being fair we aren't and haven't been for a while. Point is Brown fair or not has given Benson an opening. But count me as concerned, the guy has some bad hires and can't do simple things like put in a bag policy. In fact I'd fire him before Brown. I'm of the opinion that Benson is fairly well insulated from criticism and I'm not sure why. The guy is kind of a complete zero.

  14. We can agree to disagree - many of us believe the job performance was not up to par and the team was in steady decline and had become irrelevant - with no plan in place. Myself and many others have said the same thing - for months now. So I do believe a professional decision was made here. Is it possible that a personality clash with the AD expedited the decision, sure that is quite possible. But these types of changes are made all the time (and employees clash with their bosses all the time and eventually a move is made). Most coaches will tell you that their coaching style/effectiveness can

  15. CB was loyal to the school and the school was loyal to him - for 20 years they shared a mutually beneficial relationship. He made an adult decision on prior occasions to remain coaching in a comfortable environment where his family is from and where they wished to remain living. Yes, his loyalty probably cost him some money but it also made his family happy with their quality of life in a location that was preferable to them (these are decisions that many professionals run into). The school chose to move on after 20 years - right or wrong, they made a professional decision to go in a new direc

  18. Is your evidence me telling you who told me? Those who know me on this board, know I would not post the information unless it was true. And they know why I have some info. And so much more I still won't post because I just can't as its too personal. I have had so much of this information for years that I have held onto, with hopes Benson would not get his way. Now that he has, I'm ready to unload what I can, for those who can't due to their ties to the coaching staff and UA staff.

  19. Was out volunteering at a Covid vaccine clinic and just heard the news. Not surprised since a contract extension was never given so he became a lame duck coach. Tons of respect for CB and the success we had for a good portion of his tenure but it's always what have you done for us lately and he has fallen in that respect. I have always said the asst coaches being tied to CB may have cost him his job. Loyalty is great but the buck stops with him and you may have to CYA and he did not do that. The roster may be become bare now so tough times are ahead similar to when CB took over so the new

  22. Agreed...that is the rotten part. I seriously question if Brown went dancing this year if Mark Benson would bring him back. I've heard no...and that is troubling on a number of level. Meaning, no matter what Brown did he would not be back. Listen, we can debate in light of the results if Will should have stayed but this dogged pathological need stemming YEARS of Benson trying to run him off results be damned really calls into question the character of one Mark Benson. I know of what I speak!

  25. And this is exactly what I mean about Benson: "Will's tenure on the bench for the majority of our Division I history and his five championships have left indelible memories with our fans. We wish Will and his family all the best as they move forward from UAlbany." Notice key words missing: "indelible memories with our fans"-- now the words that should have been added for a man who has served for 20 years. "Indelible memories with our fans, his impact on the Capital District Community, national impact with Coaches vs. Cancer, and his ability to mold academically minded students as ev

  27. Cosigned...as think as time passes and emotions settle down this will be viewed as a good move for all involved. Obviously UA is in a precarious position in that we have an AD who is a zero trying to do this hire so there is considerable danger. But the program probably needs a reboot. It HAS gotten stale, we have fallen significantly behind and aren't near the top of the AE. The losses have been mounting and product on the floor not good.

  28. Can't wait until he goes to Binghamton and haunts us. Despise this move. I'm sorry, get ready for a bunch of people to leave. Gonna be a total rebuild. I hope some of you are just as upset with sub .500 records for the next 2 years minimum with this move. I'm not happy.

  29. As one of the admitted leaders of the time to move on bandwagon, I am pleased to see that they decided to shift gears, however, it is not without sadness and a bit of "i hope this is the right move" as it's never easy to see a pillar of the community replaced who did take us from nothing to something. Kudos to what Will has accomplished on and off the court. Ideally this ends up as an Andy Reid/Eagles situation where they both ended up with Super Bowls after their split (although the Eagles are currently in far worse shape)

Her father is Jason Graber, captain of the '94 team that went to the Division III Elite Eight. The record was previously held by Kelly Paolino, captain of the '99 UA women's team.

  32. As others have pointed out, I'm not sure it's ENTIRELY personal even if maybe most of it was. We have to acknowledge that we've lost quite a bit the last 3 years, once out of the quarterfinals in 5 years. It's not like Benson let CB go after 4 20 wins seasons and 2 NCAA trips. It's been a slog and a struggle, product wasn't great which gave Benson an opening to do what he wanted to do.

  33. Again no one is arguing that if you wanted to get rid of Will this would be the time based on his recent three yr record. But because we know Benson has been wanting to get rid of him and he had his decision made up before even this year that's the issue. That's the person you have running your athletics program. Agree to disagree on Benson.

  34. Don't disagree at all, and it makes sense. I do think there is a personality conflict, however.

  35. This. $15 for parking was a joke. Should have been like $1 or $2 or free...instead $15 parking + 4 tickets + vending for 4 people = too expensive of a family night out so people found other places to spend their cash.

  38. His #1 job description is to build a budget to keep us competitive. Full Stop. if he can't, he should be replaced. Donations have been higher at a miniscule level. The $10 million donation was worked by the general development department, not lead by the Athletic Department. It's a not so very secret fact. He's done nothing.

  43. Personally I am devastated. This NOT about whether Will Brown is a good coach or not. He will land on his feet. This is NOT about money per say. What they save on a new coach will be a pittance in the scheme of things. This is about Benson NOT liking Brown and playing favorites. Benson came here to build-up the football program and one can argue whether he has done that or not; but IMHO what he has done while "trying" to build football has been detrimental to all other UA athletic programs and even deadly to some. University Athletics in spite of everything you read is NOT a busines

  44. True, but my point is simple, I'm not sure Will is crying his eyes out about them parting. For these reasons above... I'm not a Benson fan, this guy is a COMPLETE zero! He has accomplished almost NOTHING for any program here. I have sat there and watched him screw up a simple bag-check policy, I have seen him lie about who forced him to institute the policy. We know how he effed up to the Title IX issues and has no clue what he's doing with all that. To be frank, be very afraid of who he's going to hire, this guy has a bad track record in hiring coaches. Doesn't mean it wasn't time

  46. Disappointing news, even if it doesn't seem entirely surprising. Always struck me as a high character guy that recruited high character players. I'm sad to see him go and I'll be sad to see the players that leave with him leave. Unless one of them is elevated to head coach, I'm assuming that most of the assistants will also be on their way out the door, as well.

  48. I agree with you here and also on your other comment about Benson being insulated from criticism. Brown has been here for 20 years and a guy (Benson) who may only make it 2 more could be the one who runs him out of town. 3 years ago we were loaded with talent that unexpectedly (to me) left and shocked the program. There were some swings and misses on the freshman class I was excited about (Class of Healy, lulka, Rizzutto, Hanks and De Sousa. I would toss JoJo in that mix too) but this years team was talented. Was it frustrating to have a completely new team, sure, but they were good and had ta
