  1. the concept photos in that "release" make me really happy.

  2. Just for clarity...it is unlikely, if EVER...a parking garage will be built. This is one thing I 100% unequivocally support the Administration without even a question. The costs involved for even a 300 car garage are astronomical, from the building, to the fare collection system, to the maintenance, to the insurance. It's a ridiculous expenditure that would have a 30 year ROI, if we are lucky. I'd rather see 15 million dropped into facilities. What they need to do (and I honestly don't know if they do this) is run shuttles consistently, build a heated shelter in the parking lot (maybe three of them), and have a designated drop off for the elderly and handicapped. Building a 300 car garage, with all that goes into it, is about a 12-14 million Capex (and that's generous considering the overhead that comes with State construction contracts), and about 1-3 million in yearly Opex. No way that is justified, and I really would rather see: the indoor facility; the SEFCU core; the SEFCU annex; the football building; baseball stadium upgrades; softball stadium upgrades; upgrades (permanent stands) for field hockey); and visitors side stands permanent at Casey stadium...all before a parking garage. All of that is going to cost at least 60-85 million dollars.

  3. That is bad news for us. Though, probably good news for him.

  4. I am just grateful that SEFCU and UG are being renovated. I hope a new bubble is happening as well, but we will see. Now for an interesting question who has been the better AD in the D-1 Era, Benson or McElroy?

  5. I was reminded by the numerous Instagram postings of individual sports teams announcing their members of the Class of 2022. This included both undergraduates and graduate students receiving degrees or certificates. To our student-athletes receiving degrees and certificates, congratulations....and if you are leaving us .... thank you for your efforts on our behalf. Wishing you success in your professional and personal life.

  6. Army defenseman Marcus Hudgins entered the NCAA’s transfer portal on Thursday with two years of eligibility remaining, multiple sources told Inside Lacrosse. Named a preseason first-team All-American heading into 2022, Hudgins did not suit up for the Black Knights this spring due to personal reasons. OK, Scott go get him!

  7. I think we have all waken up to the evolution of DI Lacrosse....after the 2018 season.... UAlbany had to face the impact of the transfer portal .... however we felt that our successes would allow us to recruit successfully ....our efforts have not led to a return appearance to the NCAA tournament .... the top one hundred players, for the most part, want to go to an Ivy Conference Team .... Big Ten Team .... and the ACC .....rest assured the ACC Teams have made a big effort to re-restock and return to prominence next year.... per Inside Lacrosse Syracuse has one of their best recruiting classes.... Big Ten and the ACC schools have the budgets ..... Ivy Conference have a storied educational background.....and money ..... with the numbers of teams playing DI lacrosse increasing .... it appears the talent outside the top one hundred is now diluted and the competition from the Top Tier DIII schools for talent

  10. For as much crap as we all give Benson, most of it deserved, good for him for delivering this and with private funding. Impressive.

  11. So is the inside track gone as well. Are we building the bubble as well? Wow if so. Also interesting the use of private funding, is that the Casey naming rights money? Definitely swept under the rug, this announcement was made on a Friday and no local papers covered this? Very strange, but then again the anti athletics people would have gripe about how could we privately fund this project and not the whole athletic department. I wonder if the PE gym renovation completion in March 23 was a typo. I have to imagine it will be done before September.
    2 points
  12. I see an announcement was posted Friday with concept pictures of both the gym and arena renovations. Some of the arena pictures have been posted here earlier. If the gym isn't to be finished until March '23, I don't know where they plan to play volleyball or basketball next year. Looks like the gym may only have seats on one side https://ualbanysports.com/story.aspx?filename=pe-renovation&file_date=4/21/2022 Love a line in there that the gym was home "even for the university’s basketball teams for a period of time. " Yea, only for about 27 years.

  13. I didn’t know where to put this, but I thought I’d toss it in here. The CAA was once the top or near top league in FCS or D 1AA football. In the 2022 NFL draft, there were 20 FCS players selected. Of those 20, exactly one, a CB from Villanova, was selected from the CAA....in the 6th round. That’s 5%. The Missouri Valley conference had 8, including first and second rounders. That’s 40%. 8:1. That doesn’t speak well of the talent disparity that’s evident right now between the leagues. And the best team by far, is leaving the CAA. Just an observation.....

  14. I'm with you, on paper this was really underwhelming in terms of what they hauled in. I've been around long enough to let it play out but I expected more...got a few small fringe guards and a kid that was supposed to be a walkon, handed out another 'ship to a guy who was a walkon. Better hope Amica is healthy, Beagle is as advertised and kids like Little and Neely and Redish take a big step up in year 2.

  15. I think everyone, including the coaches are happy that season is over. As far a defense getting worse. Don't necessarily COMPLETELY agree. Played very well against Yale and Penn [except for 4th Q against Penn]. VT has beaten us 7 or 8 in a row. That creates a mental issue for a team, especially playing at their home. Just saying. My main bitch is leaving Sr. Close D LP in even though it is OBVIOUS they can not move laterally and can not slide and are slow [unnamed 'leader"]. Going forward I think D coach needs to start working on more Man and at least CHALLENGING at close quarters rather than this 3 - 5 feet. Many teams have been firing away from 10 -15 yards because of that. They have tightened up on coming around the corner near the goal but what good is that when they do NOT Challenge guys with the ball in front of the net?? That partly depends on talent, which goes to recruiting but also goes to coaching - staying to far from the competing attack players [our close def is just too slow]. By the way how do these other schools get Sr and Grad transfers and we do not? Maybe Rhetorical but.................. VT had how many, Binghamton had how many? Rutgers who is ranked top 3 had 8 or 9 Seniors who transferred in. I have a good friend who is a Rutgers grad and was excited about that - I guess it worked for them too.......... We need some big FAST - at least laterally - Long stick close D guys...................won't solve all the issues but will help. I think Marr does an excellent job with what he has. COACH if you are reading this, you have enough ATTACK, seems that is always the focus. Get some long stick two-way middies and big laterally fast and quick reacting close D........ Other teams in the league seem to get them.

  16. I think what’s most shocking to me is not that they lost, it’s that they didn’t even look competitive most of the time. And again, leaving their big guns almost hilariously wide open for easy shots on goal. When you can’t even win or tie a single quarter, you are not competitive.

  17. I would say overall the team got worse, especially the defense. I think I said if I were Vegas the over/under on wins was going to be 4 1/2 and we just got the over. I have no idea if Scott's seat is getting warm, and I think he has earned some time to work through this, but if I were Benson I would demand some changes and I think it begins with bringing in an experienced assistant with no ties to the program. It is long past time to go outside the program.

  18. I forgot about that. Wonder what his thought process was to enter the portal in the first place. There must have been some friction or hard feelings with the coaching staff. Going to a Midwest program, well away from his home, especially one that has not excelled recently, seems like a lateral or downward move to me. Maybe he bought his freshman hype and thought he could ride it to the big time. Once they landed the kid from BC, I think that door back closed hard. All speculation.

  19. I'd guess 200-300 in attendance, mainly family and friends. Hard to tell without real tackling, but the running game didn't seem to do much. I think they used four quarterbacks, Joe Tortello impressed me the most. They threw to the tight ends a lot, especially early. WR Tyler Merwarth went up for a couple of nice catches. A couple of open receivers were missed by inches. Kicking game missed a 35-yard FG, was 3-for-3 on extra points, had a punt blocked. The two punts kicked did not go more than 35 yards past the line of scrimmage.

  21. Going for the heathen crowd. Either that or they want as few people as possible to see the 2022 spring version of 2021’s train wreck. A few years back they shipped it over to Troy as I recall. At any rate, I hope they do well and attract a huge crowd of enthusiastic supporters. But it interferes with my normal Sunday routine so the joy will be reserved for others.

  26. Just another sign how far the AmEast has/is falling?????? UA and pretty sure umbc, brook and even bingo in their first round games over the years, never or at least mostly never took a first round "thrashing." UA even when eliminated in second round or qtrs over the years were always competitive at least. Even semi-final loss was certainly not a total trashing. Even this year as "bad" as UA was they did beat Cuse (even in a down year for them they are still an ACC power with a win against Duke, only one of their acc loses was by more than few goals and they came closer to anyone in the country to beating Maryland [10-14]. In UA's three IVY loses, they were in every game; and a single bad QTR in each game were basically the differences. VT did not have a single quality OCC win; with their best OCC win against Penn State (who though rated early finished out of the top 30.) Not trying to say UA was/is better than VT this year; obviously VT had UA's number the last couple of years. But still think with UA's young attack and midfield, and with Scott making the needed Defensive improvements, UA will be back to the top of the AmEast sooner than later.

  30. I don't know how they can start season ticket sales until they announce where the games will be played. I remember we played one game at the St. Rose gym when the SEFCU floor was being replaced, but that's too small and not viable for a whole season.

  31. Not disagreeing with the point, but, only for the sake of accuracy (1) in 2021 Vermont was not a play-in team and their first round game was vs #3 Maryland and (2) there are 6 Ivies in, with 5 having home games. Turns out we played 4 of the 8 seeded teams.

  32. I wasn't reading into your post about moving on from Coach Marr, and I agree with you. The decline since the final four appearance has been pretty fast and deep, and the seat should be getting a bit warm.

  33. To clarify an earlier statement. I am not advocating a coaching change for MLAX ..... my choose of words do not represent my true feelings.... I truly appreciated all the accomplishments achieved by Scott Marr .... further all his good works for the many communities of which he is part of cannot be overstated

  34. Despite repeated assurances during the season, I saw no overall improvement in the team's performance. Thank th lacrosse gods for the Siena, Stony Brook and Syracuse wins. There has already been a couple of announced changes in the Big East. After another horrible season by a UAlbany men's team, if Mark Benson decides to make a change I will not be upset. To answer "D's" question about whether it seniors are eligible for a COVID year. Per Dionne Palandjian, her son intends to return for his COVID year, provided Scott Marr wants him back.

  38. I know SEFCU has been very generous over the years; but IMHO, for my money, naming rights are naming rights and SEFCU naming rights contract ENDED something like 5-6 years ago. IMHO it should have reverted to the RACC at that time, and remained so until a new naming rights sponsor/contract obtained.

  39. I assume this signing means Horton is definitely going elsewhere. If he can score and handle the press, I'm all for it. Having multiple guys that can handle the ball is great with Amica's injury history. This team needs a shooter with Horton and Cerutti gone or it's going to be another long season. At the moment we are stacked at the point with Davis (Sr.), Little (So), Amica (So), and now Edmead (So), but we are still thin up front. Hopefully we can get a serviceable big at 6'10" or bigger. I know that's a pipe dream at this level, but I don't see us competing with UVM and Bryant next season without one. Assuming Ketner gets a scholarship and Horton is in fact gone, then there are 2 scholarships left. Would love to see a real big for the 4/5 and a pure shooter for the 2/3. Anyone know the status on Drumgoole and Schafer? Either of them could fill the shooter/scorer role if healthy and they play to what their original expectations were...

  40. When has adding depth to the PG position ever been a waste? To think Amica is capable of playing 25-30 min a game is a bit absurd.

  41. They have got some pieces and it’s nice to see the youngsters showing their stuff. FOGO and decent goalie play gives UA a chance, but the matador style D on the unsettled/transition plays is just a killer. There’s gotta be a defensive player laying some wood on these open guys 10’ from the goal mouth. I think the tournament will be a short one for Marr’s crew.

  42. For what it's worth Vermont crushes sbrook @ brook. 7 straight wins for VT including running the table in the AmEast. A UA win Thursday might be the upset of the century 🤪. Not sure UA has the horses to do it???? The only encouraging thing is UA did compete and held their own for much of Yale & Penn.

  43. Had no idea that a garage would cost that. My guess would have been well less than half that number. That said, that while area on the other side of University Drive around SEFCU could have a regular lot built there, and if any of the residential areas on the other side of the trees would be bothered by potential noise a sound wall could be built. Either way, parking at Dutch Quad then walking to SEFCU in the winter blows chunks. Literally. I can't tell you how many games I didn't attend because of weather and that walk. Especially with young kids or older people. The shuttle does run regularly, but the shelter sucks and it takes forever. The cost of parking has never been an issue for me, but the comfort of that walk does. Go to a Syracuse game and people park miles away and the weather can be worse, so my concern is minor compared to going to the carrier dome, but they are bringing in North Carolina, Florida State, and Duke. People will walk through crap weather for that. I don't see it happening for Maine, New Hampshire, and Bing.

  46. With the increased comfort in seating and the more limited number of available tickets, do you think that attending a game at SEFCU will now become kind of a "hot ticket?" Will these improvements actually increase attendance?
