  1. I am excited for Coach Killings and what he brings. I'm beyond happy that at this moment he looks like a great hire. I feel more optimism on the board at this moment than we have had since we still had Cremo and Nichols, we almost beat UVM for the title, and we're about to have 3 aussies who had redshirted and deSousa and Rizzuto about to come in as Freshman. You know, before the 2 stars decided to move on (which I still argue was best for both of them and the right move for them) I know this won't happen anytime in the near future, especially with Benson at the helm, but Brown deserves t

  2. Antonio, I am saddened to hear that you have decided to continue your playing career at Towson University. I want to express my appreciation for your efforts on behalf of the UAlbany Men's Basketball Team. In addition, thank you for your service to the community of McKownville Volunteer Fire Department as a Volunteer Fireman. Lastly, I like thank your parents for sharing you with our community. Good luck in your future student-athlete endeavors. UAlbany community will continue however this community may not be the same without members of the extended Iati - Rizzuto family as part of its sp

  3. I concur with your assessment .... Mark Benson did the introduction...AAD & Basketball Supervisor Vic C was the moderator...a number of other UAlbany administrators from alumni association, development and sport administration attended likely around 25% of the 30 or on the zoom... When come to the Siena game ... my impression: he thinks his relationship with the Siena coach might help.... he did not mention John D'Argenio's name...Coach Killing stated in diplomatic manner that Siena's all games in the T-U is unacceptable....however he did say both teams need to prove that they are the

  4. My point wasn’t that they hired the coach in order to get the recruit, but that the coach, once hired, can recommend and have some pull in getting, a recruit from his former HS gig.

  5. Nothing changed to me with the events at Marquette. The hire will be judged based on the record during the season. That is presuming nothing deteriorates with the off the court reputation.

  6. I tried to skim through this topic and how its gone way off track in welcoming Coach Killings... I can only add: F&@K $1ENA I get wanting as many people to be there live as possible, and a standing room only TUC is an amazing environment to be in for a mid-major basketball game, but guess what: we could get that environment every other year. A SEFCU arena that is only 2/3rds full is a louder more fun environment in my mind. No reason to ever play them if they wont accept a home and home. If we agree to anything worse than a 1:1 home and home - I don't even want a 1:1:

  8. Doc looks great---can't say the same for myself. Played 1st game for Doc in 1957. We had a Freshman team and I played 1st half of Freshman Home games then dressed for the Varsity games. In 4 years we were something like 72 - 29. Beat Siena twice. HAPPY BIRTDAY DOC!! See you next season!!

  9. Adam, while many of us wish that we had one more opportunity to see play. I understand your need to move on and complete your education back home in Australia. On behalf of a grateful Great Dane Nation, I wish you continued success in your academic and career pursuits. As always, I would like to thank your family for sharing you with us. Good luck...be safe and say hello to Pistol Petey for me....

  11. I won't pay for any LCC game. It is wrong for them to think they are entitled to play at home every year and profit from the advertisers, ticket sales, etc. My only power in a free market is to spend my money elsewhere.

  12. This is about the teams and their fans. Full stop. Every rivalry such as this one, from low to high major, has a home-and-home...regardless the size of the arena. Not going to has this out again...but giving Albany the "arena" for a game as a home game is horse$iena. It's Siena's home court period. You do realize that the revenue generated isn't enough to impact the economy...and goes STRAIGHT into the operating budget of the TUC. The impact generated for the bars/restaurants could also be impactful for those up at the UA campus as well. This "for the area" and "fo

  14. Brutal honesty here. Maybe we move away from posting instagrams like this. You can actually do instagram on a webbrowser and just cut and paste that link. Keeps the board cleaner, me thinks. I do appreciate you sharing the information though and want to encourage its continuance.

  16. I have great admiration for CB, but IMHO, the program was getting more than a little "tired" lately...if that's the right word. The first batch of Aussies was great, Sam and Peter were all time greats and Mike was a solid player. This second batch had high hopes, but Lulka has been a disappointment, Healey has a lot of talent and cannot stay healthy and Hank has been pretty much of a dud. The CremoNichols departure, cover, new transfer rules have all had an impact. Stocking the assistant ranks with ex players creates a silo mentality when fresh ideas and blood were much needed. I hope DK is a

  17. Well over 25% of all college basketball players are now in the transfer portal. I wonder if the NCAA should just starting assuming everyone is transferring and create a "staying portal for those guys who elect to stay at the same school."

  18. For the record, I did approach some of the coaches about this but it was quite a while ago. It was when Bob Ford was coaching. He read the board and then declined, which to be perfectly honest, I understood. With Zoom meetings and twitter, I kind of think the need for a chat with board members has kind of passed. I suspect most people follow the coaches on twitter and some likely interact with them. I'm not sure how much more would be gained from a live chat, maybe that's just me. Over the last few years I've wondered if message boards themselves are becoming obsolete. Many of the fa

  19. It was nice . Nothing crazy stated. I asked a question about how to get more fans in the building. Coaches response was that he and his staff are going to try very hard to do that. Engage students and people in the community. They have several ideas. He also addressed the siena game and it sounds like he knew they needed to come here as well. Nothing else really stood out. Very well spoken and engaging. Look forward to the season.

  21. They sure did have a JV team in the seventies cause I tried out my sophomore year and they cut me in the 2nd round of cuts 😞. I was trying for the shooting guard position cause I was a good shooter, not so great at ball handling back then but during the tryouts, guys kept passing ball to me to bring up court I think cause they didn't want to make mistakes and show any weaknesses. Guess they proved mine with my mediocre handle 😝 and they cut me.

  22. Interesting reading. As for me, I’m gonna let the engine cool off on DK’s car before commenting on his player choices. WB had some hits and had some misses. Having said that, the guy from Bucknell looks far better than Hanks imho. Everyone is going to have to learn a new system. Nothing wrong with good D2 players.

  24. Why? No one seemed to care when Albany lost a quarter of the roster every single year. So now we're worried? I've been beating the lack of recruiting, lack of development and excessive transfers out of the program drum for years. At least now there's a reason for it or can be explained away.

  29. And need I remind anyone, we've beaten the $iena out of them for a decade, the days of them dictating terms to an institution by orders of magnitude larger than them, with a far better overall athletic department etc. ended like 15 years ago! Albany needs to know its place and conversely, Siena needs to know their place.

Show me a presser where a new HC doesn't say he wants to play a fun up-tempo style. E. I really really hope there ends up a balance. AC's are supposed to be friends with the kids. 35. I am not sure if Champion gets another year however, a core of the following would be a VERY good core for Killings to short-fill with transfers: Amica Kelly Horton Rizzuto Taylor Doles That is six scholarships and we are allowed 13. Out of those 6, there will be 5 open in the 2022 cycle (meaning 5 graduate in the Spring of 22). So I think Killings can definitely dole out 6this year, keeping one in his pocket for a mid-season transfer (13 total rides is the limit) and allowing him to start recruiting for 2022. Those numbers would depend on what is

  37. Benson hasn't even followed through with his "town hall" chats he talked so much about doing for fans. He likes to keep fans away with a 10ft poll. Maybe I'm wrong as he now has the media department for athletics all over basketball where they haven't given a crap about it for 3 years at least. So maybe his tune will change now that he has his guy in. 🤷🏻‍♀️ But that's on the school to create their own forum not a private one you'd think.

  38. This...if in 2 years or 20 years (if he's here) this is the level of recruiting it's gonna be a problem. His first priority needs to be to shure up a roster that is understandably slammed with transfers. So yeah...he's gonna be held to a different standard 3 weeks into the job. He also doesn't have the baggage of losing seasons and 1/3 the roster transferring every year...at least not yet so people usually will give a new coach a bit more rope. The first two recruits aren't home runs on paper...that much is clear. The reaction has been muted because let's face it, everyone is trying to fi

  42. Did UA forget how to play defense?? Difference in the game IMHO--brook played D, UA did not! Looks like brook #1 pre-season correct. Vermont offense good but they don't play D. At this point, brook looks like the best balanced team, especially if UA can't figure out how to win some face-offs and how to play some Defense. Also UA plays DEFENSE in QTR 1, like they don't have an idea what the other team is going to do. Maybe because of covid NO scouting??? 1st qtr vs vt and brook cost us both games, Even vs umass the D let in 4 quickies. {good thing UA offense also off to a fast start vs um

  44. Funny you should say that. Benson's first UA Alumni event when he started at the school, I sat at a table with him GDG and one staff member and we specifically brought up the Siena situation letting him know the history. I agree someone needs to do that with the new coach..and it should be someone outside of Benson's grasp.

  46. So let me ask you this? Duke holds 9000. UNC holds 18000. By saying the above you believe Duke should never play a home game again against their rival . Yikes. I agree with a ton of your posts so don't take this the wrong way but thank God your not in charge. Games around the country would only be played in the largest arenas against rivals. That's not right.

  49. IMHO I think a coach or a member of his staff ABSOLUTELY SHOULD follow the local sports blogs and all other social media related to his/her team. Does not mean she/he has to respond or do anything different because of it. But she/he should absolutely be aware of what fans are thinking and talking about!!
