  1. Thanks. I don't usually venture off sports here but know we have some Ukrainian members of the Purple Fam and wanted to show support. Hopefully their family and friends in Ukraine are safe.

  2. Hey gang. Caught parts of the game yesterday, tough one. I see a lot of comments about the team playing together, etc. I would submit to everyone, that the biggest area to look for growth is with the coaching staff. Going from assistant to HC is a HUGE leap, especially when that leap is not with your home program. I think DK will be fine, but in-game coaching, managing rotations, timeouts, pace of play, adjusting the game plan, responding to kids emotions and doing it all at the same time is something you only learn from experience.

  3. I'm pretty sure we're not going to hear what actually happened. The walk-on who played the game for free is packing while the guys who make six-figure salaries hire PR firms to obscure things as much as possible. Here's what I've seen from the outside over the past year: -the Calipari testimonial at the opening presser didn't sit well. -the hiring of Tibbs from Vermont with a scandal didn't sit well. -this past year, I saw more players get techs for mouthing off to officials than I remember in the last 10 years of Albany basketball. -Now, there's whatever the hell this was that puts a cloud over the men's basketball program, no matter how many PR firms get hired.

  4. I think this quote from Billy Madison is perfect as a response to your blithering idiocy. Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul. Mark Benson? Atlantic? Goose Rocks Beach ME? What does any of that have to do with answering the question that was asked? '$iena or get off the pot' applies here too if you aren't a fan of Billy Madison. If you can't answer why there is a lack of assistants listed on the roster, then just keep it movin ol man.

  5. More details. Ticket Seat Capacity is 3,579. Seat breakdown as follows: 1,295 Fixed Seats; 1,630 telescopic seats; 498 Telescopic bleacher seat; 28 Wheel Chair Seats; 28 Loge Chairs (ADA Companion); 98 folding chair Seats; and 9 ADA seats. Total Capacity on gameday, and this is how all arena's get their actual capacity, will be 3,767. My guess is official sellouts will be called at 3, 800. From the plans and due to 9,706 total capacity allowed, It looks like you can easily sneak 500-750 more in SRO. Accoustic levels will be even better than before based on construction setup. The place is deafening when packed. By flipping the court, we don't lose seating, which surprises me. The length of the new orientation 234.6 feet long by 189.10 wide. This is the length of construction area. That surprised me a little bit. The stairways in the building I think will be made larger however as for ADA upgrades, I could not find any. This makes sense (I work with ADA law all day) because we are calling this a rehabilitation. If it were new construction or a COMPLETE gut renovation, very expensive changes would need to be made throughout. This is very typical of construction, the way we are going about this. However, the new Annex building will absolutely be ADA compliant and it has an elevator design per the plans we have see on the Master Facilities planning. It's been awhile since I've walked the core section of SEFCU so I am not sure where the current basketball lockerooms are now. However, it looks like the new ones will be build where I remember the media room and equipment room were on the old design. Additionally, it looks like they are actually using that area PLUS building out to the current arena area under the current lobby entrance (NORTH) stands. Due to this, there are actually MORE fixed seats than previously planned, mostly on the north side, East to West Length of the main stands. This is excellent to have this many fixed seats. The team area (lockers, film room, showers, and lounge area) will run 57' long by 31.2' wide. That's significant space at just under 1,800 sq feet. More specifically, the locker room is 18'1" long by 31'2" wide. The lounge is 38'11" long by 17'2" wide. The film room is 18' long by 14' wide. These are really nice spaces. There will be storage for four goal stanchions and baskets under the West Side Fixed stands. The same setup under the East Side Fixed stands. Including the competition floor, there will be 10 total stanchions in the building. The South Side fixed stands will have 3 storage areas that will each run just under 32' long and maybe 10' wide. The benches will be on the North Side Stands (current Lobby Side). Same with the scorer tables and Daktronic Boards. The South Side will have Daktronic Courtside tables. The Corner Seats in the NE and NW corners are considered Club Seats and will have access to the NE Capital Club and NW Capital Clubs. Plus seats, I believe. The ONLY bench seating will be on the NW goal wall, likely student seating. Each lockeroom will have 16 lockers and an ADA bench. The film room features 21 plush seats and will be carpeted. It will be theater seating, three risers. Each seat will have a tablet arm and will be 22" wide . The LCD touch screen will be 84" There will be a large TV in each of the Capital Club Locations (NW and NE). The brackets are 19' long, which means we are getting LARGE TV's added. Interestingly the face the people who theoretically would be in line for concessions. My guess is it is either solely for concessions or multiple screens including game play. A new, synthetic floor is being installed under each stand, coming up the floor. My length was wrong yesterday. The HEIGHT of the top seat is 21'6 along the main stands (North and South). The length is about45-50' feet from last chair up top to last chair on floor. The math majors can do the algebra from visual distance from last seat. I don't believe this will be Volleyball ready. In fact, it looks like they will be infilling the long jump pit and volleyball inserts. They will replace the competition court, inlaying it with the old flooring (it seems). There will be East, West, North and South camera platforms at the Lobby Level. Some ask about expansion. I can't see any other structural way to expand other than UP to the roof along the walls because I believe there are load bearing supports every 15-20 feet that extend to the roof of the main part of the complex. To do that, you would have to do what SBU did and build a small concourse over a fixed stand. If you do it on the main South Fixed Stands, you could go 130-ish feet by 15'. Based on my reading of the specs, if they are fixed, chair back seats...then you would get maybe 6 rows of seating. Based on the new South Fixed Seating specs, that would result in 375-500 seats depending on design. This could be done when they add the Annex Building since that will be on the South Wall (parking lot) side. Additionally and theoretically, it looks like each corner could technically be expanded...maybe by 120 seats per corner, for a total of 450-500 seats depending on design, by putting concrete elevated fixtures that fans would need to walk under. Or you can do that plus a raised expansion on the East and West behind the basket wall. I find that less likely do to value for seat game view (less value placed by fans purchasing tickets) than either the corner expansion or South Fixed stands expansion. If they did either East or West side raised fixed seating, not including corners, you would have around 90 feet and a depth of around 14'. That would result in about 4 rows and 160-180 seats per East and West Wall...or 320-360 total. If they did all those above, you could potentially build approximately 1,145 to 1,360 to bring total gameday non-SRO capacity to 4,912 to 5,127 and non-SRO ticket sales only to 4,724 to 4,939. All are unlikely given the cost and demand. However, if the demand was there, e.g. we had a consistent season ticket based of 3,000, then someone would have to do a serious ROI on that to figure out if adding that many seats would result in the multiple millions likely required to construct that set-up versus playing a few games at the MVP. If we need 500 more seats...we have a good problem and they could sell SRO regularly.

  6. From the TU on this year's budget https://www.timesunion.com/business/article/UAlbany-gets-75-million-from-state-budget-for-17073172.php?utm_campaign=CMS Sharing Tools (Premium)&utm_source=share-by-email&utm_medium=email ALBANY - The University at Albany's $200 million artificial intelligence initiative is taking off, funded with $75 million from the state's new $220 billion budget. UAlbany President Havidán Rodríguez said the money for what UAlbany calls its Albany AI Supercomputing Initiative, or Albany AI, will be "transformational" to the university as well as the Capital Region economy. "UAlbany is uniquely positioned to leverage this computing power to tackle some of society’s biggest challenges, from post-pandemic health data analytics to K-12 education, robotic surgery, predicting severe weather associated with climate change and developing AI systems worthy of human trust," Rodríguez said in a statement. The Times Union recently wrote about the Albany AI Supercomputing Initiative and the efforts of UAlbany's new director of research and economic development Thenkurussi "Kesh" Kesavadas to make it happen. The $200 million project would include creating a supercomputing center and adding AI, or artificial intelligence, to the curriculum of even first-year students. In his statement, Rodríguez praised Gov. Kathy Hochul and local members of the state Legislature for passing the budget that included the $75 million. He also said that the AI initiative would benefit from Hochul's plan to take SUNY Polytechnic Institute's College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering and put it back under UAlbany where it was started. CNSE, as the college is known, is involved in teaching computer chip manufacturing. Next-generation chips and supercomputers are what's needed to power the AI revolution in which devices take the place of humans in gathering data and making decisions based on that data. "Together with Albany AI, the proposed reunification of UAlbany and the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering will propel upstate New York to the forefront of next-generation chip design," Rodríguez said.

  7. I have been out of the loop. It looks to me that DK hired the Siena pollster, who organized a protest by Alice Green and cohorts, which results in UA changing its position and DK pays a $25K fine, probably to an organization affiliated with one of the protesters. I have no opinion regarding DK. I've lost a lot of respect for the UA Administration. I have had no respect for the Athletic Administration for years.

  8. As one of those Ukrainians, it is very welcome and thank you to all of you who have supported the war effort in any which way possible and for your thoughts and/or prayers! I'm from Western Ukraine where the fighting isn't as prevalent, and many people have escaped to that part of the country. Family has managed to stay safe as far as we know although my wife has some college friends who barely got out of Kyiv and my cousins have cousins (on the other side of the family) who were/are in Kharkiv last I heard which is obviously taking a great pounding. Some family escaped to Poland as well. That being said, it may be time to update the overall header a bit once we go back to the regular one with a newer picture of SEFCU (with the 'mood lighting', etc.).

  11. If this is the result don’t they still need some transparency here? I know they’ll try to hide behind the “it’s a personnel matter”, but this is different no? How do we as a fan base get (back) behind DK without details? How do recruits, and their parents, send their kids here without understanding what did/didn’t happen?

  12. Reports that say that something hasn't happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns- the ones we don't know we don't know.” ― Donald Rumsfeld A lot was said and written about the above statement, but I think it’s apropos to the situation. We know there’s an investigation into an incident. We appear to know the time frame. We think we know the player involved and hence his actions and playing time after the incident. We don’t know the actual incident beyond that it was likely some physical contact. We don’t know if a coverup occurred or if a scholarship was offered or who knew what and when. What we do know is that it’s more evidence of eroding confidence in the AD and it’s administrators. We do know DK’s prior experience and how he presents and conducts himself in public. Maybe there’s some kernels of truth to all of the speculation. Time will tell, but it’s a definite unfortunate turn of events under Benson’s watch...and they are adding up.

  16. This program is fully broken. Full Stop. We don't have time for Gattuso's contract to expire next year. Change must be made NOW!!!!!! I don't want to hear bull$iena about "we were close, we lost by less then x, this many games". Winners find a way to win those games. I lost my respect for this man years ago when he whined like a baby against a class act like Talley of Villanova. In that game, Talley called a run for his fourth (or fifth) string, senior running back, who scored. Gattuso's actions that day were disgusting, and I have never, ever forgotten his lack of class. He's pulled that crap numerous times. It's one thing if the team performed. It hasn't. We average like 11.5 points ppg this year in CAA play...and 18.5 given up. The 18.5 is nice. And I don't want to hear him playing the OC. The line full stop is AWFUL. Receivers can't hold onto footballs. And the QB's are punch drunk from getting hit. Gattuso's judgment of running an offense should have been called into question when he let his failing DC takeover OC calling duties. I'm done...can't take this $iena any further. Calling Bob Ford...

  17. Are you saying since he is no longer at Albany the fans shouldn't follow his coaching career or his son's college basketball career? I think it's great that the fans want to support them both. Just my opinion though.

  18. I honestly thought there would be a lot more discord and vitriol on the board towards gattuso and the department, but unfortunately things are way worse than I imagined. We have gone beyond anger and are into apathy. There's a thin line between love and hate. Apathy is WAY harder to recover from.

  19. Let's talk facts, I love facts. 8 Seasons, and I am not giving a pandemic pass because other CAA teams played with the same issues. Here are your facts: 3 total winning seasons over 8 seasons (including this year) 1 of those season's were with Ford recruited players 1 winning CAA season in 8 seasons 1 .500 CAA season in 8 seasons Total Record over 8 Seasons: 34 wins 40 losses Total CAA Record over 8 Seasons: 19 wins and 35 losses. THIS STAT IS RIDICULOUS AS THE CAA MATTERS THE MOST. We are 16 games under .500. Last Four Season Record (presuming he has built his program): 13 wins and 18 losses, even if you don't count pandemic year you are at 3 games under .500 Last Four Season CAA Record: 8 wins and 14 Losses. Even if you take away the pandemic year, its four games under .500 This is not progress...it's abject vanilla, and basically admitting we are ok with mediocrity. We spend approximately $4.6 million on this nonsense? We destroy fan interest (8,100 tonight). We are picked to finish in the bottom of the league. This is not progress. The facts are facts. We deserve more. I hope and pray Gattuso turns it around. If he doesn't, questions need to be asked of the AD.

  20. Baseball opens on Feb 18 with a three-game series at Georgia. This year’s team is a veteran-laden group with a great 1-2 punch in the middle of the order in Johnny Marti (2B) and Brad Malm (SS). Both batted over .340 last year and were top 10 in the league in hitting. Top three starting pitchers also return in Ray Weber, Anthony Germinerio and Craig Scherrer. Should give the team strong starts on the weekend. Keep an eye on these boys as they can make some noise in the conference this year if they stay healthy.

Idaho will pay UAlbany a $250,000 guarantee for the game, per the contract copy. The Kibbie Dome is in Moscow, Idaho. That's quite a guarantee for an FCS opponent This is the week after West Virginia.

  22. Jeff Undercuffler has signed with Akron from the MAC conference. Good move for him. Will really have a quality coach in Joe Moorhead, former off coord at Oregon and Penn State. He also was head coach at Miss St. If Cuff ends up starting it will be interesting to see how much quality coaching is a difference maker. Rooting for him to do well at FBS level. Also WR Gray was offered by Eastern Illinois. Former coach Joe Davis still trying to lure Ualbany guys after striking out trying to get Cuff.

  24. This is why you need to wait before commenting. SO this happened in a pre-game hype circle? What kind of contact could have possibly occurred to rise to the level of $25,000 fine and 5 game suspension. WTF I honestly don't know who or what to believe anymore. This becomes more farcical by the moment and if what Coach Killings has written here is true, and I have no reason to doubt him until evidence is presented otherwise, WTF is going on with the department and with the C-Suite at UALBANY. Seriously...I mean, unless Killings cold cocked the kid by rearing back with intent to connect, this is horse$iena.

  25. As D96 so eloquently pointed out and without knowing all the details, it appears at least on the surface that the AD tried to protect the coach and why it appears that he's in hot water himself. If DK is found to have done what has been alleged AND if the AD knew about it and covered up...both should be dismissed, If DK is fired and Benson is not, it will and should open up further questions as to the fairness of the the steps taken to address the issue. UA will need to come clean with this investigation.
    4 points
  26. Seems plausible; but at the same time it was noted that Luke loved DK @ Marquette and the feeling was mutual. Also, DK does NOT seem like the type to go back on his word??? So as you say SAD if all true. So in the meantime I'll hold out hope that Benson denied the scholarship, putting DK in an awkward position and ultimately Luke with pressure from his parents filed a complaint about what was basically nothing in November. I KNOW, I KNOW I'M fantasizing and speculating but still would love to see DK stay and Benson get what's coming to him for running UA athletics into the ground for any number of reasons.🙄😛
    4 points
  27. So I only know one person that is in "the know" and he stated the following to me: He believes Killings hit a walk on just prior to a game in November. My guess is Luke. He stated it was not the worse thing ever, the issue is that it was covered up. Stated the Albany President is out of the state, somewhere south. Decision will be made after the final four. His opinion is that both Killings and Benson will be gone. He stated it was not because of the initial incident but because of the cover up. Basically because of the world today and the damage to the school if allowed to keep coaching.
    4 points
  28. No idea if Killings keeps his job but as a head coach, but this seems like a death knell for recruiting. This story is all over the place now, fairly or not. I have to think the delay this spring is lawyers haggling over the details of the release. Having John Calipari testify at the opening presser wasn't my favorite move to begin with. Also, hiring Tibbs from Vermont when that program was under a dark cloud wasn't great either. No way I thought it would lead to something like this though.
    4 points
  29. Notice the release- says another office, not the Athletic Dept, received notice in late February. No way the Athletic Dept didn't know about this prior...not a chance.

  30. Just reading on the America East Forum site and someone posted that Benson tried to cover the incident up but the players family went to Rodriguez. If true, Benson is gone. And I could see Benson covering it up cause he just brought DK in, did a decent job and didnt want to want to start over and his hire was a bad one. Can guarantee if this happened a year and half ago with CB, he would covered nothing and booted him immediately.

  33. I don’t chime in often, but let me make three points: 1. If you want to criticize Killings regarding coaching, you are within your rights. But keep in mind that this is his first head coaching job, he is learning on the fly, and will learn from his mistakes. You have to have patience. 2. With respect to the makeup of this team, keep in mind that based on the timing when he was hired, Coach K was at a severe disadvantage in signing players. That said, what he brought in under those circumstances seems to be doing ok. The players he signs that will enroll for the 2022-23 year will be his first real recruiting class. 3. While most of us hate the transfer portal, until something changes, it is now a very regular part of doing business in Division I sports. (In fact, at the big time football level, schools are hiring transfer portal recruiters.) Thus, a transfer joining a program is no longer a rarity or a big deal. And considering the fact that basketball only requires five players on the court, a team can be quickly destroyed by the portal (as the Danes previously experienced) or alternatively can be significantly uplifted. Players who get recruited for big-time programs and get very little playing time will be on the move - sometimes to lesser programs where they can play all the time. There will still be players who stay at one school for four years, but the percentage of those who will not has greatly escalated. Whether we like it or not, we (and the coaching staff and the university) have to embrace that new reality.

  34. Nice that Benson gives Gattuso a break during a covid year but not other programs... If you're a drinking buddy with Benson you get what you want..as I've always said from **multiple** staff within the Athletic program have confided....if you don't play Benson's game of buddy buddy, break a few NCAA rules for sponsors...etc.. you don't get anywhere. Simple as that. Gattuso has always been a yes man to Benson... 👎

  39. Perhaps, Mark Benson put Greg on notice after the game....watched Mark Benson and Vic Cegles chat on the sidelines late in the 2nd half, both looked disgusted ... Very similar look they had in Hartford last March 2021. As my wife stated, the coach knows his fate...the team knows his fate...and if you have taken the time to listen to their families...they know his fate New comment: The one thing I see coming from recent comments about the attendance is a total disrespect for our student-athlete families, friends and supporters of UAlbany who have decided to attend these games... in hopes of better days to come I'm quite confused by your posts. Are you saying GG should go or stay? And how is anyone on this board going to say what the solution is if GG goes? No one here knows what the coaching landscape will look like in the offseason. No one here is going to offer up names if that is what you are looking for. Get rid of GG and move on. Do a thorough search and find someone. Would suck if he sucks too but what we do know is THIS right now is not working and hasn't for years.

  41. Gattuso and his staff are not getting the job done. He’s a predictable coach. Year 8 and it’s more of the same. “But the game was close…we fought”. Duck that noise. He’s not a good head coach. He’s a position coach. End discussion. Year 8 and more than half of our two deep (maybe a little 3 deep) are underclassmen. We should be loaded in year 8. Excuses stop. It’s a bad football team, and very undisciplined. That’s been that way for his whole tenure. Coach Brown had less resources and did better. He was terminate. Benson has put all his money on football. Remember, Gattuso isn’t his hire. I’m just tired of this and at some point Benson needs to make a decision. This is a multi million dollar failure but for one season with an NFL caliber wideout. Even in that season, we were not remotely ready to play with the big boys we look slow we look weak we look boring offensively yeah, I get this is a young group…but when does that excuse stop this is insane already Definition of insanity is repeating the same thing over and over, especially when it fails

Here's something that I would like to believe about myself: That if I worked somewhere and I was seriously under-performing, and they told me to fire my best friend while signing me to a multi-year extension, that I would realize that it was too uncomfortable to stay. But, hey, maybe the cost of GG'S loyalty is only an extra million. I'm proud to NOT call him a friend. 🤣😂

  45. I am shocked by the number of guys transferring. Danny Damico has offers from Villanova and Towson. I thought Undercuffler would wait until a new OC was hired. Also the co-oline coach Sweeney is gone. The handwriting is on the wall with Gattuso. How do you bring in any new coaches when he is dead man walking? The punter from Eastern KY has decided to not come back as well. The big surprise for me is the DL Mazon leaving with 1 year left. I wouldn't think there would be much of a market for a 5'9 255 lb DT. UA can sugar coat it however they want but the fact is the players can't stand Gattuso. I would imagine from a numbers perspective for spring they need to focus on juco transfers to enroll for spring semester. How many full rides are available with all of these guys leaving?
    3 points
  46. Yep. Just announced. And four other guys. anyone and I mean anyone saying this isn’t about staff can go pound sand. Some of these guys were personal favorites of Gattuso. I get verse. Verse is literally getting offers from everywhere (LSU is latest). These other guys, not FBS guys. They are jumping off this ship, including guys who have a year left and can be part of a turn around our staff is preaching about. I can’t imagine we will be any good. This is a shame and frankly sucks that our finances are so bad that we would let our program suffer another year. I get that covid has hamstrung the department…that’s a mere excuse. We aren’t packing the football in that we lost that much revenue. Fact is, fundraising has not skyrocket like it was supposed to under the current administration. I do find it telling that Gattuso’s guys don’t want to be part of a turnaround. let us all be healthy for 2023.

  48. So then walk over to the berm, take a picture, and post it. No one is stopping you. According to ESPN reported attendance numbers, we are averaging 5,335 fans a game which I don't buy for one second. UAlbany is fibbin through their GG-is-1and8 colored teeth. vs URI: 8,144 vs Villanova: 7,121 vs Maine: 3,089 vs New Hampshire: 2,988 My guess is they are counting season tickets in that count, not the actual scan of tickets that walk through the entrance, because there is no way there is 3k last two games considering I took that screenshot between 1st and 2nd Q when only a few people go for concessions (unlike half-time where the amount is much greater). In fact, like 10-15 minutes before game time when the live feed first turned on, the stands were virtually empty. If I had to guess, the last two games, we had probably closer to 1,500 actual butts in seats. So even if the numbers are fibbed (100% they are IMO), just look at the TANKING of numbers from games 1-2 to games 3-4 for everything you need to know about this program. We are hemorrhaging fans at an alarming rate. I'll continue Monday morning QB'ing, thanks for your concern.

  49. His last contract was coming off 3 straight NCAA Tournament appearances and a freak upset loss in the AE tournament at the hands of a ridiculously hot shooting Pancake. Not sure there was any reason to "tear the band-aid off" sooner. I mean this contract had an almost upset win in the AE tournament in Burlington, then was derailed by the transfer of the two big stars at the same time and the scramble to rebuild from that. To me it was a victim of circumstance. Now making a move feels right at this time as the program needed a refresh for the local fans and new world of athletics, but pretty much everyone was onboard with a contract for life for WB when the last negotiations happened.

  50. Disaster season, Gattuso must go, my flosports sub expires in 4 days and won't be resubbing, I'm out on this season and next if Gattuso is still the coach. Benson should probably go too, he's been terrible.
