  1. All I got out of that article is that less than 15% of the athletics budget is spent on our two most recognizable (historically) and successful programs (MBB/WBB). 8.24% is spent on a men's basketball program that is the only reason most sports fans throughout the country even know Albany has D1 sports. Albany went all in on FCS football so it's inevitable that the less popular men's sports will end up suffering or being eliminated. That's just the reality when you look at the size of a football roster and the programs/scholarships that need to be equaled on the women's side. Football isn't going anywhere and it shouldn't, I hope we end up successful one day. I'm happy men's lax is doing so well and I hope it continues to do so. Just don't tell me the school doesn't have the money to properly support the two programs that should matter the most to the university.
  2. For sure. Show you're a competent program that has the ability to get a player to the dance during his time there. Albany's sales pitch is what they've been able to do on the court. To think there's anything special that differentiates the program without the staff and the players they've been able to bring in doesn't compute for me. You can sell the university and post grad connections (which are good), but it's not anything our rivals are unable to offer. You don't increase the budget and you're playing with fire. You take this current staff out and don't increase the budget and you're burning to the ground everything that has been built over the past 15 years. Not saying it's fair or that the school even has the money to do it, that's just the reality.
  3. *had*...carry on. We do COA now? What would make a recruit want to attend Albany over other AE programs other than the fact that we win?
  4. Alright, let's do this... 1) If a 16 was going to beat a 1 and it wasn't going to be Albany it won't get any better than it being a team from the America East, it's free pub for everyone in the league. 2) Both coaches and players get the blame for a disappointing season, there's no reason to try and determine who's at fault here...everyone gets the love when things go well, everyone gets the blame when they don't. 3) 22 wins and still finished as a top 1/2 to top 1/3 team in college basketball (depending on which site you go to) with everything that seemed to go wrong. I'm as disappointed with the season as any of you, but we're only disappointed because of what this program has become. 4) I'm not sure what anyone could have possibly seen this season to make them feel like Will Brown is complacent. If you want to blame him for protecting his players and program publicly a bit too much, fine...but you would've roasted him if everyone was getting cursed out after every game. 5) Now let's get to the facts...we have a program who has a bottom 1/2 to bottom 1/3 budget for the America East, let alone for any other league you think this program should be in. You have a great coach who made the program what it is in D1 and wants to be here for whatever reason despite the fact there's ridiculously limited resources involved for how successful they've been. Players come to the program because they want to win, which the current staff has proven they've been able to do in the past...it's not because of any shiny extras. 6) This is your reminder you root for a 20 win program that has a 10-12 win budget. You want disappointment? You'll get it if this current staff decides to move on and more resources aren't put into the program.
  5. Before I even read through this thread I can already tell it's going to be the most ridiculous one of the season. I admire the troll job.
  6. UConn still has major juice, think you see a lot more bigger names involved for that opening.
  7. You can vote your own guys? Can't vote for your own guys
  8. I agree...I can see both lose. Lowell just put up a 92 spot on UNH. Didn't realize Lowell has the #1 offense in the conference statistically. I wouldn't want to be going against Thomas in what could be his last game. Lowell is 1-9 vs the top 5 in conference this season with the 1 win in OT at home vs number 5 Stony Brook. Worst defense in the league, not sure anyone should be scared of them. New Hampshire avg'd the least ppg and has a bottom three offense in efficiency...game was just the perfect storm.
  9. It really makes you wonder about the star rating system on verbal commits. By my count he has 9 power conference offers as well as a number from other quality BB schools. How does he only rate a 2*? Verbal commits lags behind when it comes to update the star ratings which they just take from the other rating sites. 247/rivals is your best bet for the most up to date rating on him. 247 has him currently as a three star, 170th in the nation. Rivals has him currently as a three star and 126th in the nation It'll update this summer like a previous poster said when they get to watch all the kids face each other in AAU.
  10. I've been saying for a little while now you probably want them in the semifinals. Lamb is coming back, less time they have to readjust everything with him in the lineup the better. No way. Ill take an inexperienced UMBC or Hartford any day. Neither have been to the America East championship probably since they played each other 10 years ago. Thing is you're getting UVM in Burlington at some point either way if you can get past the first round. Does making the finals make you feel better about a season you're already disappointed in? Cause that's really the only difference we're talking about here. The streak is over which changes the pressure UVM would feel in the finals anyway. If Lamb's first game is the quarters I'll take them with a quick turnaround from the 3rd to the 6th than with him two games in and a week for them to get used to everything. It definitely would make it less disappointing. A finals appearance is where 95% of us expected to be at when conference play started. We play 7 guys so turnaround hurts us more than anyone else. UVM will be fine with Lamb whether he plays or not. Itll be similar to Hooley coming off the bench towards the end of the year in 2015. But how much better would ending their season in the Semi's feel??

  13. We always do 'well'.........for the first 25-30 minutes. Then we got our doors blown off when the other guys go on a 15-2 run or something because our athletes are gassed compared to theirs when they have 13 guys who'd start on our team and we only have maybe 1 or 2 that would start on theirs or even get serious minutes (that's just how the cookie crumbles for our tier of D1 hoops). The final score might not be us getting beat by 50, but we sure as hell can't compete for 40 minutes with those teams. That's just how it is. I'm tired of just doing 'well'. Either we need to focus on having a FULL SEASON of dominance and stop just waiting for the 'new season in March'...or we need to get the hell out of the AE. We have 5 titles and we're still bumbling along the high end of the low majors with Vermont who has had their own share of continued success. That's why getting a seed in the low teens is vital. Facing #1's and #2's every time we make the dance is doing nothing for us. Just adding L's. Playing a #5 is a much better proposition for anyone at our level. There is a reason why there pretty much a yearly upset of a #5 by a #12 for example. When's the last time a #1 or #2 lost in the first round? #1 never, #2 only 8 times in the history of the dance: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NCAA_Division_I_Men%27s_Basketball_Tournament_upsets#Round_of_64 The list gets WAY longer the closer you get to #12, #13, etc. although it's still not a given you'll win that game. Winning does very little for changing conferences and turning into a big program, all that matters is money. Pick a program you want to be and I'll tell you how much larger their basketball budget was than ours. We've had the success of a top half/top third basketball program over these past years with the budget of a bottom third program.
  14. Not to mention I'm not sure when we've gotten "smoked" in the tourney (other than Virginia). We've had some crap matchups and they've played out just how our games would play out against any top 25 team. I'm down with being pissed off about losing to bad teams in the league. Thinking we should be winning tourney games or making tourney run's is Vermont fan level delusional. Only way you're winning one out of this league is by stealing a game from a damn good team. There's a reason people remember when low/mid's do it.
  15. Yeah I just don't think it's making a difference either way in this league. No matter who has come out with whatever record since these current teams are in the league there hasn't been a favorable matchup. If you can steal some OOC games then that makes all the difference. I'd say I can agree with the disappointment of not being able to finish with at least 13 conference wins every season considering how we view the quality of most of the league. Its just not going to make a difference when it comes to making noise in the NCAA Tourney. You're always facing teams where you'll need to play your A game and they'll need to play a C- game at best for you to win.
  16. I wouldn't think much is changing over these two games. You really don't even need much to change. Need to figure out and recognize when one of these four minute stretches that kill us are coming to minimize them and in the end the stars need to play like stars during the biggest moments. Sometimes a shot just doesn't go in, nothing wrong with that...there just cant be multiple possessions without a clean look or with a turnover. Had a shot to win and controlled a lot of the game in almost every conference loss. I guess the issue is in every game whether it's been a loss or a win we've looked much better than the opponent for a stretch and much worse than the opponent for a stretch. Even with that you can look at almost every loss and point to two late shots that didn't drop that were the difference between losing and winning. I don't really care about being good in the regular season (although I definitely thought this team would). All that matters is the postseason in this league and as a fanbase if we're sick of hearing that than we've been fortunate enough to experience enough AE tourney championships that we're spoiled and think we deserve more (right or wrong). I couldn't tell you the last 15 AE regular season champions, but I can easily tell you who danced every year. This isn't to make excuses for the players or the staff, I've been pretty vocal with my disappointment this year. I'm a big fan of CB as a coach and I've been pretty vocal about that also. Pretty much at this point there's no reason for the fans or the team to act like they didn't reach their goal...the goal remains the same. Either we win the conference tournament or we don't. When the time comes that either of those two things happen we can revisit everything. Win three games in the playoffs and nothing else that happened this season matters.
  17. Lost to Hartford at home Talking about UMBC only having a home loss to Vermont on the season
  18. BTW after all of this if we make two open shots we normally make we come out of UMBC with a win...and with everyone forgetting the issues since winning cures call. I'm pretty sure they've only still lost 1 game at home this season (to Vermont). Then again the two shot thing can be said about a couple of our losses, figure 2-3 possessions usually determine most games.
  19. Obviously struggling from deep (understatement), but I don't see anything bad there from your best and maybe only real stopper on the perimeter. We really only notice the offensive flaws if the stars are having an off game. Thought yesterday Campbell settled for too many two point jumpers (there's a balance between taking what they give you and realizing they're giving it to you for a reason). IMO anyone who doesn't appreciate what Devonte brings to this team is out of their mind. He's the type of player all good teams NEED to win, the ultimate role guy. Any offense you get is a bonus, and when he's slashing and grabbing offensive rebounds it's huge for this team considering what he does on the other side of the ball. The major mistake I made preseason and I'm guessing everyone else did also is I looked at the pieces and loved what I saw without realizing that most are incomplete. Our best defender can struggle on offense, our offensive stars can struggle on defense, the guys we have coming off the bench can shoot but aren't good defenders. To put it simply either our stars play like stars in the game or we're in trouble. Good news is everyone in this league is flawed (including Vermont, who just masks theirs better than everyone else). We don't have a three and D guy...we have a D guy and two three guys coming off the bench (well one right now since Ahmad is MIA). When everyone can do half a whole it becomes a problem, especially when someone has an off game in the one area they contribute from. You can tell right away when Joe and David's legs get tired...they can play solid D, as soon as they're tired their man can beat them and they struggle getting through/around ball screens.
  20. Can't win if you don't score, the shooting was painful to watch down the stretch. Starters didn't have it today other than Cremo in the 1H. Three bench points for the whole game, none in the second half. Few teams in the country are good enough to win with how bad our offense was down to close this one out. Our defense is what it is, not great but good enough most of the time...very confusing when the offense disappears the way it did in this one and late in some other games.
  21. +1. UVM is a very good, athletic, and fundamentally-sound team. 19-0 against the AE is very possible. I do not think it is that we don't try or that we played so poorly; UVM is just better than us, and good teams will make you play poorly. That is how it works. I'd agree, except bad/mediocre teams have made us play poorly. It remains a mystery, not sure how you beat the second place team in your league by 40+ and then do what we've done in other games. 40+ wins don't happen in conference, even if you're playing the worst team in your league. Still think it all clicks at some point, maybe it doesn't, who knows. Think a lot of it has to do with what Patch said...we gotta find a way to lock in when things are going against us instead of melting down.
  22. This X 2 Only thing I'd do is in a game like last night where we are sleep walking on offense to start I'd come out of the U16 in the 1H with our press and get guys moving a bit. Risk early foul trouble with a short bench, but to me it's worth it since when there's not much life to this team it seems to last all game until they're down 15.
  23. Organizations seem so upset about the Patriots cheating that they continually hire their assistant coaches to become their HC's.
