  1. Our athletic programs are circling the drain. Most of our sports teams are below average and now this.
  2. Undercuffler should comeback to the Albany program. if there are no takers at the FCS level I assume GG would take him back. I also assume he has no interest in D2 or D3 as he would of transferred somewhere. I know D2 or D3 would scoop him up in a second.
  3. We are due for wins over Maine and Rhode Island...aka last season should of won. I would sign up for 6-5 right now.
  4. With the exception of Baylor we can win all of them. Villanova and Monmouth will be tough but a fairly easy schedule overall....in theory. I think we will be undersized on D this year unless they still have to update the roster.
  5. Without question!!!! This could be a massive beating. Does anyone remember last season when CCSU played The Hurricanes of Miami? it was a 70-7 final I believe. Baylor just won the Sugar Bowl and I believe would blow Miami out. They make Syracuse look like a D3 team. Let's hope they have class and play their 2nd & 3rd strings at the start of the second half.
  6. I actually agree with you on this 100% and is a shortcoming of this staff. They are not getting the right level player. I would say Undercuffler and clearly Verse w would qualify as the right kid.
  7. Another player goes down a Division. He is probably better suited for that level. Before I hear about how great New Haven is remember back when we were D3 we would regularly defeat D2 teams such as Springfield (they were D2 back then), Southern Conn, Central Conn etc. Only the one player stayed on the same level.
  8. As a "glass is half full' kind of fan I believe you will find that we are very close to having a good squad. I'm not saying the coaching couldn't have been better but they really were in most of their games. Once my fan board beating ceases I think you will find they are not that far away. They will be coaching for their professional lives this year. If they had better special teams coaching they probably have 3 more wins but i will not review the season. I think this new QB will be a lightening rod as he is also trying to resurrect his playing career.
  9. He will be a starter day 1. Jeff who?? Undercuffler made a big mistake leaving. Any idea where he landed?
  10. With the exception of Verse who is going big time as predicted the majority of transfers are below Albany. Robert Morris and several with no schooL in place. One transfer on the same level (Villanova.-Towson) I bet you see a couple stay with UA. Even money says Undercuffler stays with Albany. I would have liked to see GG bring in some high quality asst coaches. He has 3 years now. If we get the guy from Delaware he will be coming with players!
  11. At the end of the day the program has regressed but the sky is not falling.(LOL I know I’m going to get pounded for that comment) This upheaval is normal and will happen EVERY year. This will provide multiple opportunities for kids already in the program and transfers from other programs. Alot can change in a year... I’ve seen it happen before. An influx of talent and new players will bring new energy and may be what the Dr. ordered These kids that transfer out I say good riddance with the exception of Verse. A 2-9 team with all these “thoroughbreds” really hasn’t impressed me. Yes they were in every game and if not for special teams failures the record would be different. A coaching change is probably going to happen but most kids don’t care they want to play college ball and if they can get a scholarship even better. These kids for the most part already know the NFL is a pipe dream. Kids that have visions of the NFL go to Auburn or Alabama not Albany. The program will be better with new players and it is not quite the dumpster fire people think. As Ford would say the sun will come up tomorrow and the grass will still be green, life goes on. A new coach may be inevitable and there are plenty of quality coaches that would jump to coach this program. I will go out on a limb and regret it later but I believe they will be much improved next season because they are all coaching for their football lives.
  12. Dane 96 remember these guys are transferring from a 2-9 team. How good are they really? Undercuffler probably sees the writing on the wall with his backup breathing down his neck. He didn't exactly light it up without his NFL caliber receiver. You know as well as anyone "next man up." How much worse could next years team be? I actually went to the Stony Brook game and frankly SBU wasn't very good but we looked like the kids didn't care from the opening kickoff. Kids laughing and joking on the sidelines while they are getting their asses handed to them by a 4-6 team. Dancing to music during timeouts. I was ashamed to be a former player. I left with 7 minutes left in the second qtr. Absolutely HUMILIATING. My 13 year old son looked at me and said "Dad they dont care. I thought your team was supposed to be good."
  13. Good for them and their transition. I am dismissive because the key point is they are all doing better in D2 or D3. It tells me they were D2 or D3 talent. Hanks left to take a shot at the NFL through Chatanooga, not Alabama...so far have not seen him on an NFL roster. He was on a couple of good team while he was here. I haven't seen anyone play better at an FBS program or an FCS program. The fact that they are excelling at D2 or D3 makes the point they weren't good enough at the FCS level.
  14. I am looking at the glass as half full! These comments are my opinion. Some of these guys not named Verse may regret leaving. Verse was leaving even if they won a National Championship last season. He has the NFL on his mind so he needs a high profile program and needs to compete against Power 5 competition. The rest of them will probably land in D2 or D3. Not one player that I know of that left UA has made a splash anywhere. The stud RB from a year or two ago (cant remember his name) left and went to Murray State or a higher profile program....never to be heard from again. The QB left and landed at D3 Hobart I think and has never been heard from since. The Troy WR left and went to New Haven...never to be heard from again. The WR from a few years ago left after marijuana trouble to a PA D2 school...never to be heard from again. If they are leaving to get away from this staff and just be small school student athletes without the pressure of FCS football I understand it. Most of these guys were getting playing time so it probably is due to the questions surrounding the program. None of these guys leaving with the exception of Verse will have any impact on this program at all. Programs at this level just reload. This happens every year in FCS football and its much more common at the FBS level. So far all of the guys leaving will prove the point they couldn't make it at this level. Maybe they should not have been recruited. I think cleaning house of these borderline/troubled players is good for the program. they will bring more JUCO transfers and 4year program transfers "to hold the fort" until there is a new staff or when GG & company gets the ship off the rocks.
  15. So far the only transfer out of UA in my opinion that means anything is Verse (96 I believe). As good as Verse is he will be smallish for the FBS big boy level like Florida State. Wouldn't shock me if they moved him to LB. Its not like he dominated and completely took over games in the CAA ...aka Lawrence Taylor type performances. This Walker kid as Dane 96 stated will be tiny at the high end of FBS and the LB (44 i think...forgot his name) didn't impress me as he was often blocked against the run. He really should think twice about leaving. If anyone else leaves next man up. It was a 2-9 season so how good could they have played?
  16. I will not be reading this in November or eating crow. I will be done after today with this forum after many years. I just thought some of the comments made were classless by grown men about kids that play for the school. Whether they win 8 in a row or lose 8 in a row is irrelevant. "My thesis" was designed to shed some positive light on another possibly lost season. It is a difficult concept to grasp for some on this board. The season has not ended yet who knows what happens. In 2019 everyone threw the kids under the bus in until they turned it around. It is clear you "cast of characters" love to insult the kids that play for the school. I understand your stellar analysis about GG but your angry uninformed commentary about kids who play for Syracuse and Albany prove you really are uninformed. Dane 96 I know you from the forum and although we have never met in person I am not concerned with the numbers or statistics as I am not pleading a case to defend GG. I just thought it was inappropriate for those on the board to continue to bad mouth the players. In another month they will be bad mouthing the basketball players. They insult young men who are trying their best. I have not said GG has done a good job after 8 years. He will go and someone new will come in and they will attack the new guy as well. Thanks for the memories.
  17. Lets not be silly here by stating that UA doesn't have talent. They have plenty of talent. Is it being optimized or are they playing up to their ability? No, not so far. Or they are an NEC team. They would beat every NEC team including Duquesne ( I know they beat a bad Ohio team), see 2019 playoffs with most of the same players. The OLine is horrible no question and needs fixing. But it is insulting to some of our current players who ARE talented and are contributing. Do think #96 the DE is talentless? Karl Mofor? the new WR #11? Be responsible when making these statements. as I assume they read this board. IF (AND ITS A BIG IF) the OLine can turn it around they can be a different team.
  18. Some thoughts thus far in 2021. In no way do I want to come off as an expert because I am not. Playing a million years ago or coaching youth football does not qualify me to be an expert. EVERY SINGLE SEASON I read the exact same crap from the same cast of characters on this board. It is literally exhausting coming to this forum, which I haven't in a while. I am not sure I have ever seen a positive comment including in 2019 when they started off badly and turned it around. I read that UA is DIII or a HS team or a bad NEC team. That is just utter horse$iena!! Or GG can't coach and our play calling is the worst etc. etc. GG is not having a great season(s) and has struggled for some time now. I am not suggesting he is doing his job. His job is to win. His days may very well be numbered. But pump the breaks people. This team probably will not be a playoff team but a good year is not out of the question....yet. Look at out first 3 games: NDSU - FCS National Champion 8 times. NDSU would beat Syracuse soundly. We hung with them in the first half and even had a chance to take the lead but fumbled going in on their 20 I think. Who knows what happens from there. A loss probably but it could of been a 24-17 type of game but still 0-1. Rhode Island was a missed opportunity no question. Our D held a pretty potent offense to 16 points. They are a better team than people realize but it was a winnable game for sure. TWO BOTCHED FG attempts!!!!!! (Dropped snapped balls) Inexcusable at this level!!!!! I was in attendance for that game and was livid when I left. Hit those two and UA wins. Those mistakes were on the coaches (special teams coach and GG) I will concede that. After the first miss and before the back up QB trots out to attempt the second FG you/coach/GG gather all 3 components together... Center, QB and kicker and basically tell them one is bad enough but dont Bing this up!! Game over 0-2. Syracuse. Never had a chance. They were just better. I dont care that they are a doormat but they are an ACC team. They were bigger, stronger, faster and better athletes than we are. The OLine were overmatched. End of story. We played horribly on both sides of the ball no doubt. If we played our best game its still a loss. For those of you who actually believe that Syracuse's second and third strings are scrubs you really dont know a thing about football players. Their second and third stringers would start at almost 95% of all CAA schools. Get a grip. They are outstanding players and most them are on full rides. Dont insult the Syracuse players by calling them scrubs. Garbage time counts...dont forget it. Our second teamers and third teamers deserve our respect. The OLine is a disaster. Needs to be fixed and fast or it will be over. Thats always the case. They are the main problem no question. Fix that and it turns around. If JUC is unhappy and fighting with coaches then let him transfer. You see how well that has worked out for others in the past....Dev Holmes anyone? JUC may lose his spot to #12 anyway (Carino I think his name is...I love the way this kid plays) I would rotate him and JUC the entire season in anticipation of losing JUC. JUC has impressed me this year with some of his throws but others not so much. Yes getting sacked like 20 times in 3 games will do that to you but when given time he has been ok. The only player I really fear losing would be the DE #96 he is the real deal!!! The rest can be replaced. Next man up. Its not like we have any game changers on either side of the ball except for #96. The schedule going forward is favorable. You will find out that Rhody is far better than you realize and Delaware is beatable. A win next week turns this around. Maine, NH, Towson Villanova etc. are all winnable games if we get things fixed. Turnover/penalties are killing us and this is related to coaching. The coaches no question need to step up their game but so do the players. Pump the brakes people. Plenty of time to panic later.
  19. Catbob welcome to the board. I promise this isn't going to be the mandatory compliment or the proverbial "smoke blown up... well you get the picture." Montana State really looks to be a fierce team from what I can gather. You guys have my utmost respect and as another poster here has stated MSU will probably be our toughest opponent sine our FBS game against Central Michigan. Physical teams like MSU that pound opponents into the ground with a running game scare me. When we were dominating in the NEC (6 conference titles) we had that same type of offense and would just beat teams into submission with a big OL and big backs. I loved it. We even took one of those teams out to Montana and played the University of Montana tough until the scholarship differential/depth took over. I believe it was tied at halftime and I think we lost 28-14 or 35-14 I cant remember. We are more of a big play finesse offense and can (hopefully) run the ball if needed. MSU is one of those types of teams. 7 different rb's get carries and from what I gather your OL is pretty big. On D we are not small but we are not huge either. We need to shoot gaps and mix up fronts. My guess is we will load the box and dare your QB to beat us. My fear is we will wear down. Our QB (see Stony Brook game) has a quick release into the flats or a bubble screen in the hurry up offense which I think you will also see. We have played and beaten teams with big crowds this season. Delaware gets 15-20k per game and we beat them. For the most part the crowds in the CAA including Albany when we are having a good season are in the 4k-10k arena. Delaware and JMU are in the 12-20K arena. We have had games where attendance was 11,000 ( opening of the stadium)even though capacity is 8500. I feel we will have better attendance next season due to the success of this years team. But 18,000 should not bother our kids, in fact it may be a great motivator. I am excited to see how this game plays out. Should we lose I will be pulling for you guys the rest of the way. Good Luck
  20. I was not detailing the weakness of our schedule when mentioning Delaware, NH SBU and CCSU, I was indicating that every team we played had zero respect for us on various sites.
  21. My observation is Albany has gotten ZERO respect from anyone this year!! From the coaches in the league to the columnists to the opposing players but all we do is keep winning. Delaware was going to beat us at their place and UNH had a devastating defense, SBU was going to ruin our playoff hopes and CCSU were going to "pound us!!!" We pissed away Richmond but so be it. And still if you look on the other sites there is little mention of Albany anywhere. Maybe they fear us I don't know but a win on Saturday would force them to pay attention. I agree 100% with Click. The pressure is all on #5 MSU!!! Just go out to Montana and let the kids play loose, have fun and let JU sling it 60 times and see what happens. Congratulations to Coach Gattuso and his staff. Also a big thankyou to all our kids who are playing their hearts out!!!
  22. CCSU is showing UA absolutely no respect at all. But then again no one has paid UA any respect this season. That may be a good thing but they think this game is an easy W according to their board. They are talking about pounding UA? really? I hope the UA kids read this!!! HOF 2013 is correct about their schedule. It is a powder puff compared to UA's. I believe CCSU will be good but I doubt they have seen team speed at this level since opening day. IF CCSU played our schedule as soft as its deemed, do you think they win 11 games? Would Rhode Island and William n Mary get beat by Duquesne or St. Francis? I doubt it. I don't. I expect a solid win Saturday.
  23. That wind can /will play havoc with a passing offense and an unsteady kicking game. Did I mention this is another one of those "MUST WIN" games?! I think they will need to win out for a berth.
  24. I will admit that URI scared me to death before the game, during the game and was very relieved we came out on top. A much needed bye week. Sometimes bye weeks are needed and sometimes they disrupt a team on a roll. We shall see. Going forward I am cautiously optimistic. Maine should be a W, Delaware on the road will be tough but they don't seem to be invincible. I love our chances with New Hampshire at home and an overrated Stony Brook team. A win over Maine and we are a 6 win team. Our kicking game still scares the hell out of me. Our D thankfully is being opportunistic and winning the turnover battle which has been key. We need our D to step up a bit and keep teams from long drives. It seems our secondary is improved but they need to step up their game going into this last push. As far as this poll is concerned nothing matters as this is JMU's conference until they are beaten. I don't see that happening. I don't want to jinx us by looking ahead but I think should we win out or finish 8-4 we will face either JMU or Villanova should we get selected. The loss to Richmond will kill us and the loss to Monmouth is inexcusable and may certainly cost us. I almost wish the bye came after Delaware but the scheduling gods have spoken. LETS FINISH STRONG!!!
