  1. The TU is supposed to have "A Full color page to commemorate Jamar Wilson's achievement" tomorrow as well as the first 250 people to the CUE on tomorrow's game will get a free copy of the TU.

I'll make sure I stay in the varsity club gym long enough, so that I am not one of the first 250 in the raac tonight.

Seriously, I just saw the TU today and it is typical lame TU to put Jamar on the back page instead of on front of as an insert as a classy newspaper would.

If i AM HANDED A tu UPON MY ARRIVAL. i WILL REFUSE IT

It was great to see Doc Sauers and Gary Holway there to honor Jamar.

  2. It was great to see Iati have a good game. He looked pretty good on both ends of the floor. Also some great production in the paint by Covington. He really played well and hit his shots at the line. Were going to need some production from other sources if were going to make a run. Hopefully the guys can use the next few days to rest up. Anyone know if there is something wrong with Brent? he doesn't seem to be himself.

Brent is battling a virus of some sort.

  3. I've seen Stony Brook a handful of times this year down here on Long Island. They stink at times - and they look like a solid club at times. They're young. They have some athletes in the post - none of them polished - but they can all run and jump. Their guards are average - Buford can get 20 some nights. Ricky Lucas - who transferred in from George Washington (where he played in 60 games and averaged about 5 ppg there) - is their big gun. I haven't been overly impressed with him - he's about 6'5, long arms/body - but plays soft. He gets about 17 a game, I think - but he usually does it pretty quietly. UAlbany should win - but SBU is improved and they've shown some flashes of being on the upswing. Buford and Jamar should be a good matchup, as should Siggers and Lucas - the wild card is Brent Wilson - SBU has no one to really mark him.

Let's hope Brent feels better tonight. I'm looking for him to go off on the Seawolves.

  4. It's kind of hard to believe that the men are playing again tonight, especially with 3 games behind us in only a few days.

It's also hard to believe that there is little coverage of our opponent tonight. The TU article only mentions them as the opponent, with no other background info. The Troy Record does not even have an online article about tonight whatsoever.

Since Stony Brook is always a tough opponent for us, in terms of closeness of games played in the past, I think they deserve a little more respect in the media. I am certainly hoping that the coaching staff is not downplaying them. It might be the case that the staff and the team are just looking forward to a break from the brutal schedule.

Maybe because Loudonvillle CC is also home at the Knick this afternoon

  6. I spoke with some members of the pep band. Apparently the arrangement was destroyed i some water damage and they don't have the music. I thought maybe someone at school had te ability to write them a new one. Findlay Cockrell certainly could. I'd like to get the crowd to sing it pregame, right after the National Athem.

The Song is rather catchy. I am amazed the sheet music for it cannot be found anywhere. Perhaps the Earthtones have music for it?

  7. And before anyone confronts me (DanePound, stuck in Vermont) about 'Freeing Carl Ross', I know he had a bad game, but I hope the future is a bit brighter.

Admittedly I was frustrated with the way Ross played in the minutes he recieved. I guess I'm still waiting for him to provide the spark Siggers did last year when he worked his way into the system. He can still help us and hopefully does (soon).

The last 8 minutes of that game just about everyone on the court looked physically drained to me. UVM had some guys come off the bench to deliver the finally knock out punch and we didn't have anyone. Really not the position I thought we'd be in come January but there's still a long way to go. Our head is bloody but unbowed.

Got a better look at Gifford yesterday than I have in a while. It's an amazing difference from when I saw him in October. That was a fine looking move he put on Holm yesterday, I'm with those who'd like to see him get the ball a little more.

Once Gifford is 100%--Will needs to give him more minutes. The noticeable thing yesterday was that we have a bench that is not used. Lonergan was running them in and out. That helped provide the knockout punch.

  8. The University of Vermont and State Agricultural College, or simply "The University of Vermont," is a public university located in Burlington, Vermont. The university was chartered at the impetus of Ira Allen in 1791, under the name "University of the Green Mountains," or in Latin Universitas Viridis Montis (UVM),

    Nice research.

I just felt like providing some levity in light of the recent loss, but it is good to know that there is some reasoning for this apparent error.

    Thank you.

The University of Vermont, or UVM. Also, known as one of the "Public Ivies"

  9. Not a catastophic loss, especially considering the venue and the competition. Once Brent gets back into rhythm the team will be much better. Hopefully go 8-0 at home, win half or more of the games on the road, and go 12-4 or 13-3. If not, there is a harder trip to the conference final, but nothing I think the team cannot handle.

    Stony Brook.....get ready.

And shouldn't UVM be UVT, or is the community too far removed from a real academic institution, such as UAlbany, where they teach state abbreviations?

  10. I'll bring some breakfast bars, which go with beer, to tide you over until you eat your box lunch. Not configured very well for a card game. We watched movies over and back to UConn. I'll bring a few for options.

The bus trip was a good time. Bob, Thanks for the Breakfast bars. They helped give us energy for the game/

  11. I don't usually post about B-ball, but after looking at the box score from today...I was wondering if such two-person play can be effective the rest of the season?

J.Wilson and Siggers combined for 56 of the 66 points today? And on top of that we only got 6 points from the bench? Thats putting a lot of weight on two shoulders? Have we been playing like this all season?

The other eye-popping statistic is that the two top scorers also each played all 40 minutes of the game. How much longer can they continue to play at that pace? The other guys have to step up, and they must also be given the opportunity to do so.

I was at the game. There were only 2 offensive options today, and it hurt. Brent was never really in the flow. the team was very physically tired in the second half. This stretch of games and travel took its toll. UVM is a very good team, but they can be had

  12. I am totally for retiring his number.

And I know I don't have as long a perspective as some of you guys, but Jamar may very well be the one player who's impacted UAlbany athlettics the most.

    It's well earned.

My thoughts exactly. I shudder to think what would have been the outcome for the program had Jamar transferred out.

I don't think that there was ever any thought of him transferring

  13. 9:15 AM the number was lowered to 3.

On an aside, what should I smuggle onto the bus, as this will be my first alumni bus trip (also, it will be sans wife): a six-pack, a deck of cards, a book, or some combination of the three?

Basically, will other people be having a pre-game party, playing poker, or just reading?

usually a quiet bunch....the scenery going up north should be quite nice

  14. Jamar needs 13 points to pass Gary Holway and become the Danes all-time leading scorer. and 163 to go over the 2000 mark.

My bet is he passes Holway Saturday at UVM's Patrick Gymnasium.

There are reports his #31 will be retired in a ceremony on Senior Day. I'm not sure if that is an appropriate time to do that, as Senior Day is for ALL seniors to be recognized. Maybe sometime down the road would be better. He definitely should be honored individually for all he has don to further this program.

  15. Monsieur Allen may have finally found found his shooting and scoring touch, as demonstrated in his team's most recent game:

Date Opponent Result FGM-A MIN 3PM-A FTM-A OREB REB AST STL BLK TO PF PTS

    1/3/2007 @ Milford W 65-60 8-17 38 4-11 4-8 1 4 4 2 3 1 4 24

Let's hope that the good news keeps rolling...

He had another good game on 1/6---keep it rolling Mr. Allen

Can't wait for this guy to get on campus.......Looks like he will make an immediate impact

  17. Our Perimeter Defense is terrible. Carl Ross needs more minutes. His energy is a big plus for our defense. It was a different game when Ross was covering Forbes.

Was there a reason Iati got so much time? I mean...yeah he scored a little but nothing overly impressive, he missed a lot of shots too. Plus, defensively he couldn't have guarded the guys if he was playing his best just because of their height advantage. I wouldn't have minded seeing a little more of Ross today to stimulate the defense (as mentioned previously by others).

Observations----Lillis and Ross are not respected as shooters, so they can gang up on Jamar. Forbes went wild on Iati, compounding the offensive problems.
