  1. That is funny you say that, cause I used to (loosely) keep track of Barazza & Johnson's +/- to the annoyance of my buddy. Despite the 1 time he dropped double digits last, Barazza NEVER made it in the black. Johnson was not much better either.... That would be a great stat to see for everyone on this team. Who would have the best ratio this year?
  2. Nice! Hopefully we can stop giving up so many easy baskets. In theory I like the full court press and the trapping in the half court but I thought against UMBC we gave up way too many points with passes over the top that led to layups. We can't afford that against a team as good as BUMA. But Gilliam was cherry picking the whole game, right? If UA got the offensive board he would have been well out of position. Yeh...he leaked out the second our shot went up thus beat us down the court a couple of times...had we gotten some offensive boards it would have been a 4 on 5. Actually, the two times I remember him getting out ahead of us were off of made baskets (Black's drive & Ambrose layup) ... which is even more maddening.
  3. I agree with you on Johnson, though I am not sure why anyone would be harsh on Gifford. At times on Sunday Gifford played better than anyone on the court for UA (other than McRae). From the start of the 2nd half until he checked out with 13 minutes left, he busted his ass blocking a shot, taking a charge and making 2-3 solid passes. I think his limited rebounding stems more from always always starting each set from the top of the key (out of position by design?) than getting outworked down low. Granted the guy is tall & unathletic, but I wouldn't lump him in the same "no heart" group as Johnson, Harris and Ambrose. Ultimately, I would like Metcalf to see more minutes, but Gifford in a 15-18 minute role the rest of the way isn't a bad thing.
  4. Now this is not meant to be anything more than a question. I do not claim to be a xx & oo's guy, but..... why not take Johnson out of the equation all together? In all honesty, what does he bring to the table? He looked horrible last night, repeatedly getting burnt but Moore time and again. Why not let Ambrose run the point w/ Tartt backing him up there. Johnson is neither a threat to penetrate or create his own shot, so teams key on defending the perimeter on Harris / Ambrose, who then have to resort to having to get "handed" the ball in order to start the set....It's the same thing over and over again. If Tim runs the point, much the way Jamar used to, the offense would open up to all as teams now will have to cheat inside a bit more... Interesting thought, but I don't believe that Tim has the handle that Jamar did. With all due respect to Jamar... There were a lot of 5, 6 & 7 turnover nights in his illustrious career. go back and check the box scores. Point is the good would outweigh the bad

  6. That's Clanton for UCF.. Not Gavin. Did anyone else hear the announcers on the UCF audio feed during the break? about Albany - "We should be absolutely destroying this team. They are terrible."
  7. everything McRae does should be from 12 feet out. he scares me when he gets the ball in the low post
  8. it's not that we have no defense, American is just good at moving the ball quickly and finding the open man. There is so much movement away from the ball on their side...refreshing to watch. It also helps that they aren't missing anything.
  9. what offense... we scored 27 points. According to the AU announcer Johnson 7 Harris 6 Ambrose 4 McRae 4
  10. Will America East refs call that a carry? This is a guard league, so no carry called on that UA72. Now, the header pic of Metcalf above would most certainly be an "Over the Back" call in the AE. Nice pickup for UA. I think after this year we all want a tru PG with a solid Basketball IQ and ability to distribute the ball. It looks like from the little info available that that is what we will be getting. Welcome to UA Mike.
  11. I would take the over on 25 with your lineup any night
  12. I would guess that he is the guy with the handle "I Rock the Cape"...just a long shot
  13. D, I didn't take the count so I can't tell exactly how many were there but IMO there were around 3K there. I was there and the place looked a bit more full then usual. I've also rewatched the game 2 times and I thought the crowd was solid....heck there were probably 100-150 Bing people there. The Box Score on ESPN shows attendance of 3409 for the Bing game...
  14. From the TU Blog - "Raffa seemed to enjoy his first go-around with the vocal Patrick Gymnasium crowd, especially when some fans screamed for a traveling call after Raffa scored on a fast-break layup in the second half. “I feed off the crowd a little bit,” Raffa said. “There are a few trash-talking, but you can’t do nothing about it. I’m just playing … I just waved and smiled. That’s about it. But it’s a good atmosphere to play in.” I was sitting on the Vermont side right behind Wyland and the play by play guys. After the "three step" layup the UVM fans were getting all over the ref about the no call. Raffa came near the scorer's table and yells. "Keep it coming. I feed off of it!!" to the fans. NYR and I sort of shook are heads. Interesting to hear his version of things. It appears we have our own version of hot head Mike Trimboli here at UA. (That is..... minus the tears and inability to hit a big shot.)
  15. I started a similar post on the America East Board as I figured the UVM contingent would know a little more about the area. Here is the link to that thread with a bunch of usefull info. Fellow NYR's and my families are staying at the Days Inn in Burlington (busy, but still with rooms avail). We chose that place due to the Indoor Pool that the kids will enjoy http://www.basketballforum.com/america-eas...burlington.html I hope it helps... Good luck.
  16. And 1? These refs are doing everything they can to Keep SFNY in the game.. unreal
  17. How does the UA Roster look? Last Years was completely wrong so I exchanged it 24 hours after buying it. not worth my time if they don't even make an effort....
  18. someone has to tell these guys that we can hear everything they say during the timeouts. To the Producer "I'm just going to BS The Halftime show. Stats Sheet, recap... Read the Phonebook." Good stuff
  19. Good news about Lindfors. From his quotes last year about coming to Albany and wanting to play right away, I was worried that not playing may create a bad situation. Red-Shirting is a good option for him and the team. What are the practice restrictions for a player that Red-Shirts? Are there any. Also.. I can not imagine any rotation projection that does not include Logan is correct... (Sorry Bosi). Coach Brown has mentioned his health in pretty much every interview & Blog in the early part of the season.. I think he will be a big part of things once the conference season rolls around. I would keep your projections the same and give all of Barrazas minutes to Logan come January. Just my opinion FWIW.
  20. So where is everyone sitting at the tourney.. Section 101 - Row H for NYR and myself. Any predictions for the UA turnout on Saturday night? 500, 1000, 1500?
  21. This was expected...and great job breaking the news by FOX23..kudos. Logan and Jake are going to be fantastic ADDITIONS to the DANES. Logan is VERY similar to Brian Lillis: Coaches kid, smart, tough, big (Lillis+), and strong. He may not grow...but he is going to be huge for us. Kid can put the ball on the floor...and has more offense than Brian. Now if he plays like Lillis on defense...watch out. If the two recruiting classes (this year and our new frosh) pan out...this team is going to be the deepest, most athletic squad we have ever produced. Having Allen and Logan, coaches sons', on the team will help immensely with chemistry and leadership! Another FANTASTIC JOB by Will Brown...earning every dollar we pay the man! excellent.... I saw something on this on 13 this morning..but wasnt sure. one thing from the Fox blurp says Raffa, Lindfors & Aronaldt complete the 2008 recruiting class. Is to be assumed that Gilliam is no longer coming? regardless, you have to love the direction this program is going.
