4. What does this mean for NIL Collectives?

This is the topic that interests me most about this proposed settlement: I think it’s intended to substantially reduce the influence of NIL Collectives both by allowing universities/departments to compensate athletes directly, and by giving them more oversight of the Collectives, themselves. In the short term for lacrosse, I think this settlement could dry up the comparatively small NIL Collective market that currently as those dollars would presumably go back to the Athletic Departments to fund scholarships. In the intermediate term NIL might revert into its original intention: athletes using their fame to provide value to third parties as opposed to de facto pay-for-play.

The above is part of a comprehensive article in "Inside Lacrosse" how the ncaa vs House (a person not the government) proposed settlement.

Most of the article is/was much too technical for me; but two things that I got out of it are the paragraph above seems to indicate that NIL for the smaller sports at least are totally insignificant; and the new 48 scholie limit for lacrosse are totally meaningless. Not sure if the author is speaking of just lacrosse or all "non revenue" sports when he downgrades the significants of NIL? And his accounting of "new"  scholarship limits was also beyond my comprehension; but I think he is implying it will actually have little or no practical importance for most school LARGE or SMALL??

The first big-time neutral-site game of the 2025 NCAA lacrosse season has been announced.

And it’s a big one.

Maryland and Notre Dame will meet at Bobby Dodd Stadium, home of Georgia Tech football, as part of the Atlanta Lacrosse Invitational. The game is set for noon on March 1, 2025 and will benefit Shootout for Soldiers.

Well NOT that pre-season polls mean much or anything; it is a bit disappointing that inside lacrosse "The Men’s DI Way-Ahead Rankings" did not include UA in its top 20?????????  Again, not that it means much and it is not rocket science but the article states 3 staff each did their own ranking and they merged the list to get the final publication. It was claimed they started with the final rankings of spring 2024 [UA #18]; looked at who left and who is coming in.

With some guessing UA would/could come in as high as 13; with not losing much at all; and  supposedly a very highly rated incoming class, well like I said I do not understand how UA could NOT be included in the top 20?????

Since UA's final ranking of 18 was a fact,  not in dispute; and since the only loss of significance was G. Hogg is really non-disputable; my only guess the incoming class just not as strong as some may think or at least just not as strong as at least 20+ other teams????????????????

You are 100% right. I was only thinking about UA's loses offensively. Big mistake on my part; Piseno not only was/is a critical loss defensively but will impact the offense as well. Could certainly explain why UA 2025 predictions NOT top 20 {even though I think UA ultimately will be top 20 this season.}

Thanks for catching my oversight.
