UAlbany Football Game 5, 10-05-2024 (Sat) 1:00 PM at Cornell Big Red, "Historic" Schoellkopf Field, Ithaca, NY

16-10 in the 4th against a lower level team is sad. This team is not making the playoffs. Stick a fork in em, the upper echelon of the CAA will wipe the field with us.

True, but I don’t get the point of a straight handoff from that position. Unless they had a fake jet sweep or something else to get some bodies out of the middle.

Agree - that's why I said misdirection.  Fake to the first back and misdirect to the flanker or a second back

Happy to get the win but the there’s a lot to improve on.

1. Burkett needs to hit the open receivers.  His stats were good but there a couple of passes that could have been touchdowns but he missed wide open receivers.

2. Need to get touchdowns in the red zone.  Not sure what went wrong but you need to get touchdowns instead of field goals when you’re that close.   It sure if it’s the O line or the play calls but looking for some improvement.

3.  Kudos to Jared Ambrose.  A lot of plays with McGee in the backfield - some motion, swing passes to get the ball in his hands.  Also some more bubble screens - let your playmaker make plays.  Also helps with Burkett - he can make some easy passes and improve his confidence.

4. Defense made some changes but a lot to do especially with the injuries.  Sean Morris got the start at nose guard and played well.  Chehade had been the starter but struggled especially last week against Maine.  Cornell had some big plays but we were better up the middle.  Would like to see the Corners play closer to the line of scrimmage but it’s hard when the cornerbacks are all 5’9”.  Dontae Lunan’s targeting was just a bad play but he should be back for the game next week.  Defensive injuries that I can remember - Winston injured in opening game, Timon Akins injured in opening game, Dillon Dunathan injured last week.  That’s a lot to recover from.

5. Hate to see Woodell get injured but I think Uga should get more reps - played well and should continue to get significant reps.

6. Ozzie Hutchinson started at Tackle but only played a few series.  not sure if that was just precautionary or he got injured again.

IS Cornell/IVY bowl eligible [FBS] or FCS????????  If fbs they have to be last or close to last in the country. Should have/could have won this game by a lot more IMHO. Cornell was awful. Was this a payed game? UA should pay them to come to Albany🤑.

The Ivy league schools choose not to participate in the playoffs.  In general, the top Ivy League football programs (Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth) are very competitive- ranked, FBS 5th year transfers… Last year, there were more former Ivy League players in the NFL than former CAA players - even though there are only 8 Ivy League schools.

FCS NFL players by FCS conference

The Missouri Valley Football Conference has the most FCS players on NFL active rosters with 28 players.

NO. OF FCS PLAYERS ON NFL ROSTER FCS CONFERENCE
28 MVFC
19 Big Sky
10 SoCon, SWAC
7 Ivy
6 OVC, SoCon
5 CAA, MEAC, Pioneer
4 NEC, WAC
3 ASUN, Patriot
2 Big South
1 Southland

Could be any kind of a misdirection fake so long the the guy faked to runs like has has the ball.  But I agree with your idea.
