I thought they were saying "sucks to BU", not FU BU....am I wrong on this?

You're correct there. But I think just about anywhere you go, you're going to hear "(Name of Opponent) Sucks." It requires little thoughts while you're watching the game and it for everyone on the other team. Plus, no one in thecrowd isn't going to not understand it or screw it up...especially when you have so many "new" students fans at a game like that one.

some people tried to start FU BU, but it didn't really catch on. I thought Sucks to B-U was pretty good. I also liked the Who's Your Daddy chant.

I liked the Who's your daddy chant as well. As for the Sucks to BU chant, my t-shirt did the talking for me on that one.

Great night at the RACC last night, well worth the 6 hours in the car round trip!

Coach Brown showed that he is a class act all around by addressing the crowd and by a statement that he made to me after the game.

It was great to see the students get behind the team!

The replay of the game broadcast can be found at The America East multimedia page. It's not a high -def telecast, but might be good enough. I don't know how you'd save the video, but it will also be replayed on channel 3 tomorrow at 8:30 and you could DVR it or tape it.

Brian DiPasquale (email bdepasquale@uamail.albany.edu) is director of media relations, and also is in charge of media guides, so he might have photos if they don't have one up in a day or two on the University site.

Obviously a great night for the program. Student attendance and energy made for a "big time" college hoop atmosphere. Lucious was great out of the box, Jamar had a good second half, and Siggers made some big time shots when things were starting to get shaky.

My only complaint was a certain negativism from student sections even when we were playing well. Besides the bottle cap incident (which was overblown to begin with) there were too many "Boston Sucks" and "F.U. B.U." chants which, in my view, were unimaginative and unnecessary. Those kind of negative chants usually come from a school with a "chip on its shoulder', or an inferiority complex.

We are the team to beat in the AE. Fans should be loud and energetic, but not worry too much about cursing out the visiting team. I doubt Duke fans ever chant "Clemson Sucks" or "UVa Sucks".

Haven't been to many ACC games...HUH?! Trust me...the stuff at ACC games are much, much worse than an FU BU chant. I dont condone the chant...but it goes on everywhere. At Maryland, Carlos Boozers parents had to be escorted out of the ARENA...

I haven't been to a Maryland home game, but I'm sure what you say about Boozer's family is true. Offensive fan behavior happens at all levels. I was at a game at the Palaestra where Villanova fans were throwing bananas at Patrick Ewing. I'm sure we can all think of similarly ugly examples.

I just think the schools with the best student sections find creative ways to take verbal shots at opposing players, coaches, etc. To stick with the Duke example, the students at Cameron are hostile, abusive, but not offensive. Chanting "(opponent) Sucks" is too easy, and doesn't get under their skin, the way a more imaginative putdown would.

One poster made a good point, noting that there were alot of first time fans at the BPG, so you needed to keep it simple. Hopefully many of them will be back for future home games.

And if you have ever been to a Syracuse game then their chants get just as bad, I believe the exact words (to a tune by the band) are "ra ra ra ra ra SU, we're gonna take a $iena on you"

I think the only thing that was truly wrong was throwing something at the floor or the BU team, outside of that a crowd chant is part of competitive college athletics, if these kids want to prove they are good they need to learn to deal with hostile conditions. All in all it was a good night that seems to be getting blown out of proportion because it was the first time UA has seen such a large and rowdy crowd. I only hope that we have the problem of enthusiastic fans for years to come!!!!

First a note to Dane 96 - The Maryland Administration stepped in and banned the playing of Rock and Roll Part II by the Maryland band, to eliminate the addition of the words "you suck" after "hey". FWIW, the Bing U students do chant it that way.

I wasn't going to post this, because I didn't want a negative to overshadow what I thought was a great job by the Alumni Assn and the University in putting on the BPG (who would have expected long lines of students at 3:30, waiting for the RACC to open), but I was a little disappointed in the RACC staff, for two reasons:

(1) during most other games, the seat police, as I call them, are all over people making sure that people who didn't pay for chairback seats don't sit in them, but on Saturday , they were invisible. (2) the lack of security behind the BU bench. There seemed to be a lot of security people eating at the Feast, but when the incident occurred that got Coach Wolf upset, the first ones on the scene were Charley, and Rob, who I saw run from the other side of the RACC. It took a while for the uniformed guys to get there.

My personal opinion is that the several rows behind the visitor bench should be roped off for use by fans of the visitor team.
