Letter to TU

Recommended Posts

Our friends over on the Siena board have another UA thread this time on the TU letter regarding Coach Brown.

Some are assinine, some are understanding fans with solid opinions and then there's the pompous condescending Tony.

But what counts is that you know that they know we're in town.

I find it somewhat amusing how some, not many over there are arrogant and ignorant.

Well hopefully some of us will write to the editor and get a rebuttal published. I know I sent a letter to the editor regarding this story, they called me back today asking if they could publish so maybe my article or someone else’s will be able to defend Brown, and put this UA Fan in his place.

BTW I wouldbe intrested to know when this letter was originally written

put this UA Fan in his place - B9j2j6s

I would have used the wording Fan not UA Fan because I think this smells of something underhanded.

1. It should be hard to attack a coach whose team has won 14 of its last 16

2. Jamar Wilson is rarely pulled for a mistake. He's avg 35+ mpg.

3. Lillis is a known favorite of Will Brown - Brown always compliments him for his intensity and BBall IQ.

I believe over the past three seasons Brown has shown us he is capable of doing what he promised - develop a program and compete for an AE Title.

5-13

13-15

16-8 (and still playing)

I sent an email to the managing editor of the paper as well as the executive editor. The email did not address the letter that was published but instead the utter lack of coverage of UA sports in general.

I questioned why the coverage for less than successful low end professional sports was superior to a successful DI NCAA program.

This is the response I got:

Thank you for the thoughtful email about your disappointment with our

coverage of your alma mater's sports teams.

By coincidence, I just listened to a voice message from a caller praising

our Olympic coverage as well as our coverage of hockey, in particular the

River Rats.  It underscores how you can never please everybody and one

person's priorities and interests are not the same as the next person's.

Nonetheless, we try to serve the interests of all our readers, as best we

can.

We have limited resources and we try and select sports stories that are of

wide interest, yet we look for unusual and unique stories too that give

diversity to our pages.

I wish we had two reporters to devote to UAlbany sports coverage, but that

is just not a realistic expectation at this time, given our staff size. As

you well know, UAlbany is a new Division One program and as it becomes more

successful, we plan to be there.

I will share your very constructive comments with Bill Callen, the executive

sports and I appreciate that you are a reader of the Times Union sports

pages.

Maybe an NCAA tourney bid will get their attention.
