ESPNews had Albany without the NY in it, if that is any consolation.

Why does the NCAA insist on naming us Albany, NY, Albany, (NY) or Albany (New York)?????? Who could they be confusing us with????????

 

We are the only Division I school with the name "Albany". I don't buy the argument that we can be confused with Albany St. Univeristy, a Division II school in Georgia. Our Athletics department needs to contact the NCAA and correct this. I believe it hurts us from a marketing perspective.

 

At least ESPN gets it right!!!!!!

Maybe it would have been better to remain SUNYAlbany. UCLA, ACSF, UTEP have all survived pretty well with all the initials. At least it's more manageable than the multi-directionals...like SouthWest Missouri (not sure if that is one, it's the best I could come up with!)

We should be the UNIVERSITY OF ALBANY...or the UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORK.

Not that it makes that much of a difference, but UB is still officially the University at Buffalo. Golisano tried to have it changed to the University of New York I believe, but that obviously didn't go through.

 

I think the "Albany (N.Y.)" thing has gotta be a SID thing. I'm sure it takes some time to finally change for new DI schools in terms of their name in the press, but it's been long enough now..on top of our Big Dance success.
