[ if he does leave I will not be upset except for the fact he just signed long term but Mac did the right thing in giving permission.(classy)

IF !! he leaves he did his job in leaving the program better then he found it. with any job that is always your goal. We are in better than before he arrived and will be AD's job to continue in that direction if new hire needed.

good luck Coach but i hope to see you and your staff back next year for a "threepeat"!

It is what it is

an interview...... not an offer

If Coach Brown isn't offered the position, I'm sure other positions will open as the coaching Merry-Go-Round will continue to move as coaches leave other schools to fill vacancies opening other possibilities.

The ball is now in Dr. McElroy's court does he just sit tight or does he reward the Coach for a record 23 wins and a second consecutive AE Tourney Championship and NCAA bid.

Is Brown worth near as much as Wolff at BU is worth(?) or atleast as much as his Siena counterpart?

We should keep a close eye on Brown but we should also keep an eye on Dr. McElroy and see how much he wants to retain Brown.

Yes, if Coach Brown leave, I will be sad. He clearly raised the level of the program. I believe he will remain here next season; he has more goals for this program.

If he leaves, however, he will have made this program much more attractive to other potential coaches. We're on the map, though, and we will remain so.

Is Coach Brown worth it? worth as much as McCaffrey? Worth as much as Wolff? Let's see: back to back Conference Tournament championships. back to back 20 win seasons.

smart recruiting of the right players. I know how we all feel about this. Now it is up to Dr. McElroy and the University hierarchy. I know we are limited in what we can do financially, but maybe we can hold onto him for another few years.

Patch, great point. Dr. McElroy wasn't Browns greatest supporter going into last season, and even through much of last season. I remember remarks (negotiating points) about not winning a playoff game etc.

Personally I think Coach Brown has done at least a very good job and maybe a great job. If he is at Albany the next two years we will know if he has done a great job. In other words, how many games can he win without Jamar Wilson? That also has to play into his decision process. Is this as hot as he gets for a couple of years. If UA is 15-13 or 16-12 next year and finishes fourth in the AE, how many calls does he get?

Now on the other hand, if he wins 20+ with the returnees and the freshman, and wins the AE again, look out. Then the phone will ring off the hook with offers that he will not be able to refuse.

As always with these decisions it boils down to risk/reward, for Brown and McElroy.

How much does the LCC coach make? I would hope that our coach makes at least that amount, no?

Simply out of curiosity, and because I knew nothing of the Bonnies' program, I studied up for a few minutes on St. B.

So for those in the same position as I, here is their hoops' website: http://gobonnies.cstv.com/facilities/reilly-center.html

It looks like they have quite the following and crowd on campus.

Apparently, the school has an enrollment of about 2,200 and is located in "southwestern New York."

I imagine the campus is very pretty. Though, there certainly doesn't seem to be much else there! It's gotta be about almost 45 minutes to an hour to Jamestown, and I've never seen that place either. Having gone to Buffalo for undergraduate studies, that part of the state reminds me more of the Midwest than Albany or NYC. Very nice people out there. Has anyone here ever been to St. B. or that area of the state? Thoughts on that area? Seems like it's in the middle of nowhere.

Olean is in the middle of nowhere. Maybe an hour or so South of Buffalo, near the Pa. border. The school is alot like Siena, but in a rural setting. Good hoop tradition (Hall of famer Bob Lanier went there in the late 60s). Good community support (they draw 5-6000 per game when they are competitive). As a program they have nowhere to go but up, so Will would benefit from relatively low expectations.

Even if Will does not get the Bonnie job, there will probably be a few weeks of uncertainty. Once the Michigan job is filled, everything else has to shake out (If Kentucky lets Tubby go, that will add another layer to this). Say, for example, Belein of WVa gets the Michigan job. Does Sean Miller of Xavier then go for the WVA job? Is Will then in the mix for the Xavier job?

Or if Anthony Grant of VCU gets the S. Florida job, is VCU interested in Will? What if the ODU coach gets an offer from a BCS school?

Unless Bonnie blows Will away with a contract offer, he may just use the offer to leverage things with UA, and/or wait and see what else presents itself in the next few weeks. The A10 is a tough league to coach in. There's alot of pressure to win, but it has become a one or two bid league. Getting to the NCAA torney on a regular basis is crucial to coaching success when you step up to a league like the A10. Bottom line is its a good time to be Will Brown. As fans, we will have to be patient. We all like Will and hope to see him back next year, but if he goes, there will be alot of very good coaches interested in the UA job.

UA_MA,

I remember reading on the Siena board that McCaffrey is making in the neighborhood of 240K base. His deal was reworked last summer because he exceeded expectations. So no, Will doesn't make McCaffrey money. If my info is wrong I'm sure Siena fans will correct me.

Personally, I do not think Will is going anywhere this season.

That being said, our recruits are locked in. However, if the kids TRULY WANT OUT, we more than likely would release the recruits like many schools do.

Your assertion is pretty much correct. The only thing between Olean (and St. Bonaventure) and Jamestown (which Route 17 I-86) that isn't scenery is the Indian casino in Seneca Salamanca. Buffalo is 75ish miles away (about half of which on local roads), Erie a little longer (all of which Interstate). Somehow that whole region is considered the northernmost part of Appalachia based on socioeconomics and geography and rightfully so, it's seen better days and is way out there.

Between St. Bonaventure, Alfred, Alfred State, and Houghton, that area has a fair number of colleges with a lot of nothing to do going on.
