UALBANY BREAKS TWO SPRINT MEDLEY RELAY MARKS AT 113TH PENN RELAYS CARNIVAL

Philadelphia, Pa. -- UAlbany's Mike McCadney finished second in the men's college triple jump with a wind-aided distance of 50-feet, 9.25-inches at the 113th Penn Relays on Saturday, April 28 at Franklin Field. He lowered his NCAA-qualifying mark with the performance. St. Augustine's Andre Tillman won the event with a leap of 51-3.75.

Gered Burns ran the anchor leg as the men's sprint medley set a school record and placed second. The relay finished right behind champion Florida State with a time of 3:17.09, more than four seconds better than the previous UAlbany standard.

Burns' 800-meter split was 1:47.4, while Pat Weider and Junior Burnett sprinted the first 200m legs and Joe Greene ran 46.5 seconds on the 400m leg in leading their unit to the fastest finish by an IC4A squad. The Great Danes' women's sprint medley relay also shattered a UAlbany record that was established earlier this season to take seventh place in 3:55.87. Jessica Ortman ran the final 800 meters in 2:08.9, as her team eclipsed the old mark by more than seven seconds. Anisha Andrews and Ashley Vives ran the 200m legs, while Adanna Andrews handled the 400-meter third leg.

In the men's eastern triple jump, Gabriel Lopez finished 16th with a distance of 45-feet, 0.25-inches. Marc Pallozzi placed eight overall in the javelin with a toss of 209-feet, 1-inch. Freddie Wills leaped to a seventh-place finish in the eastern long jump with a mark of 23-feet, 4.75-inches, while Felipe Reyes finished ninth with a leap of 22-feet, 10-inches.

In the women’s triple jump, Sarah Charles took second with a distance of 39-feet and 9-inches. Jenn Gurrant also represented the Great Danes in the event, placing 15th with a leap of 36-feet, 5.5-inches. Luke Schoen recorded a leap of 15-feet, 7-inches in the pole vault, good for a third-place showing. The men’s shuttle hurdles team of Jean Juste, Anthony Assent, Freddie Wills and David Parker placed sixth overall with a time of 1:00.96.

The women's 4 x 800m relay finished 3rd with the #2 time in school history of 8:55.04. The splits were Adanna Andrews 2:10.1, Anisha Andrews 2:14.2, Zuliana Fontanez 2:15.7 and Jessica Ortman 2:14.7. The Men's 4 x 100m team of Pat Weider, Junior Burnett, Raphael Jean Baptiste and Joe Greene finished 3rd in the IC4A final with a time of 41.03 which is the fastest a UAlbany team has ever recorded at the Penn Relays

Please watch the 3 minute video link below to see UAlbany's greatest Penn Relay Achievement. Listen to the audio as well which really highlighted our achievement in this sprint medley relay running against the Nations best teams (Florida State, Kentucky, Arkansas, LSU, Mississippi State etc). We are in purple with Gold sleeves. LSU is in all purple. We are glad to share this moment with all of you - GO DANES!!!!!!!!

WOW, that was awesome!! Gered Burns's performance in that final anchoring leg was simply inspiring. And a second-place finish among those strong SEC schools too!! Florida State appeared to go nuts during the first two legs and built a strong lead ahead of all of the other schools, but in the end, they weren't so dramatically ahead of the rest of the field, and second-place UAlbany, by any means!

I encourage everyone on here to watch this!

Again, as McFan stated, it is Day 2, Heat 1 of the Mens' Sprint Medley Relay.

After watching that, I'm going to go eat some pizza and feel depressed about my 20 minute 5K time (lol, *sigh*).
