We have a Division I football team in Albany that plays the #2 team in the nation tomorrow and there are zero pre-game stories in the paper. Absolutely horrible coverage plain and simple.

It's pretty sad that it's Friday and still no coverage on the Montana game. People in the capital region piss and moan about the lack of high level sports in the region, yet when there's finally something worth talking about you cant even count on the local newspaper to cover it.

Could it be aware that awareness in the public of UA football is fairly low compared to other sports in the program? As it is there is a "FBS or nothing" stereotype in the public perception and that we play in an excuse of a facility that is bettered by many high schools doesn't help either. Could things like that be holding coverage of this from the TU?

And yet when the UA/Duke basketball matchup happens in December, the TU will probably tease it to hell...

Thinking about it a little more, the TU will probably (hopefully) have a big story about it tomorrow. Maybe they didnt feel the need to stretch it out over 3 days (pre, in, post coverage). A blurb would have been nice at least....especialy since there's not much else going on.

There is definitely an FBS mindset, unless you are App State, Montana, Delaware or GA Southern! If you read the UM board, they have video and audio interviews from players and coaches(very nice to UA in interviews) about UA. You would think Penn State was coming to Missoula.

A new stadium will cure this identity crisis of UA football. If the public percieves UA football as going "big time" compared to where it is now with a new $60,000,000 stadium then I would imagine the mindset would change as well. People already view us as being superior to Union and RPI, but we need more. Especially if we get named opposition coming to Ford Field! Any Ivy or named University will bring them in. Winning seasons will keep them coming! A home and home series with the big boys in needed!

Build it and they will come!

I know its not the TU's job to hype our program. The fact that we play in a $ienaty stadium hurts us. But come on. You can't tell me that the TU doesn't see the potential for this region to have a big-time football team. That is not going to happen without local media support. Period.

Singleas's article left much to be desired today. When two papers from across the country write more interesting things than our local paper, you know there's something wrong.

I found it interesting that the one article mentions that there hasn't been much coverage in our local media except the article on the Hofstra loss. Places where football matters more have articles almost every day. Let's hope that happens here, sooner than later.
