What really should have happened is UA should have invited (and paid) for a representative from all the local media to attend the game at Montana, as well as influential politicians (not sure about the ethical consdierations of that, w/ conflicts and what not). To experience that atmosphere would have done wonders for our stadium cause.

Be sure to invite pols from both parties or state gummint would be paralyzed by Grizzlygate

I'm sure the "three men in the room" would have enjoyed a good college football game and a chartered flight to Montana.

I think at least one of them would be apathetic. Would they have gone if was Cornell at Montana though?

I have no intent on hijacking this thread, but isn't it a conflict of interest for SUNY as a whole for the Governor/Speakers to have seats on Cornell's board?

part of it is.

To be even more myopic, it is the NYS Land Grant school.

Thank you Ezra Cornell for being so in deep with state government.

How hard would it be for SUNY to relocate the statutory schools from Cornell and to have the Governor/Speakers recuse and abdicate their board positions? I know removing the land grant designation at this stage would be hard, but the involvement between the state and Cornell should be reduced since Cornell can stand on its own two feet without us.

I believe part of the school is state-controlled.

If I am not mistaken, the School of Veterinary Medicine has NYS control, just as the School of Forestry at Syracuse U is state-administered. Some of you may have much more intimate knowledge of the exact status.

This is the problem with New York's state system. 64 campuses. Are you kidding me? And New York supports Ivy League Cornel. For what purpose? New York spends so much money and then has to spread it thin across all the campuses. Even with all the money it's not enough to support all these schools. That's the problem right there. SUNY is a monster that just eats money. New York needs to consolidate and build up the remaining campuses.

The "64 campuses" includes every specialized school and community college in the system. Considering state population and how far-flung the state is geographically, it's actually is quite average; to compare Massachusetts has about half as many schools for 1/3 the population. Under the same metric, Georgia has 38 schools in their state system with half of New York's population.

New York needs to consolidate and build up the remaining campuses.

This came up on this board once before, and the political headaches with this alone would negate about 90% of the cases given that closing community colleges isn't feasible, the specialized institutions (the HSC's, FIT, Optometry, etc.) have their niches, and some of the colleges are the lifebloods of their towns (Geneseo, Fredonia, New Paltz, etc.) . I think the merging of some of the community colleges could work, merging nearby colleges could work as well (e.g. Potsdam with Canton or UB with Buff State), maybe split the statutory colleges from Cornell and make them institutes within the University Centers. It's more feasible than one might think...

Why not allow some of the smaller institutions to exist as private colleges? Ie: Fredonia, New Palt, etc... Incorproate them as private, self-sustaining colleges. Sure tuition would have to increase a ton, but I think some of the schools would be better off.
