I have no "inside" info to believe the $25 million is NOT stadium related. Obviously the total would make sense, but, there are other line items for other SUNY campuses that would make it seem like they would have been more specific on our $25 million if it were for the stadium. They include:

Buff State - Athletic Stadium - $4 million

Canton - Convocation, Recreation, and Athletic Center - $18 million

Stony Brook - Stadium - $3 million AND Basketball Arena - $8 million

Utica/Rome - Field House - $20 million

etc...

HOWEVER...there are are items listed that specifically indicate a student union/campus center type building..

Delhi - Student Union Building - $10 million

Our "Campus Revitalization Project" seems to be the most broad/general description of a line item in this funding category.

I will be complete bull$iena if UTICA/ROME and CANTON...get that kind of money and we dont.

Your last sentence is interesting-- maybe it is broad because it will be the MOST controversial? Allows us to take the $$ and do what they like? But to give Canton and Utica 40m for NON-DI facilities is JUST NUTS!

We are not just getting shafted with that...but I DO NOT BELIEVE A WORD OUT OF SPITZER'S MOUTH ANYMORE. His backtracking of how there would be four and not two flagships...is horse$iena.

BUFFALO and STONY BROOK just got DOUBLE our money...DOUBLE!

I am officially concerned- I was not before.

what makes me mad is Stony Brook is getting $8 million to make changes to their basketball arena which is in pretty good shape and $3 million for their stadium that is not even 10 years old yet and the state can't even give $10 million to UA to help build a stadium! Gosh I hope it doesn't cost $14 million for lighting, I hope we can take some of that and pay for "lighting" at a new football stadium.

I hope that $25M "Campus Revitalization" or whatever it's called is for the stadium.

I am concerned because I know a new business building was a listed as a higher priority. I have a MBA from that business school and my view is we should use that money for the stadium. NYS will be much more sympathetic to a business building next year. The existing building is fine for another year.

Despite my naive optimism earlier, I believe people say what they mean. I believe Gov Spitzer when he says there are 2 flagships. We are not one of them.

Dane96, let me know if you received my second email. I need to log off to get some things done. I'm also pretty upset and need to focus on something else for a while.

Perhaps not all is lost? If you remember, many of us had the same doomsday attitude the last time we felt slighted, once the media got involved things became a bit more clear. Are we basing the "flagship" status on the money UA is getting compared to SB and BU?

I simply can't reconcile one thing.....how a non D1 school can get millions and millions of dollars for athletic facilities and we get $iena. I'd love to hear what Dr.McElroy has to say about the prospects for a football stadium. What is the new 2010 project name?
