Stadium Funding and UAlbany Flagship

Buffalo and Stony Brook are taking full advantage of Spitzer's announcement that they are flagships. Look at Buffalo's description when I googled "SUNY". You don't think this affects recruiting? This hurts recruiting general students and student-athletes!!! It really ticks me off

I included this comparison photo in an email to the local representatives. Maybe I can shame them into helping UAlbany?

Who are the Vikings? What stadium is that on the left? Did I miss something?

The Vikings are a south Georgia public high school. I'm sure there are any number of high schools that could be used to compare football facilities but since this one was available, I took it.

Looks like Spitzer is still at it when it comes to UB and flagships. I never hear "UAlbany" and "flagship" in the same sentence. I'm sure we're just as good. This is as of today:

"Just as you need superstars on a team, you need flagships that define the system," he said.

Heard the Assembly's budget bill from today unofficially contains the following in UAlbany capital funds..

School of Business - $54 million

Campus Center - $31 million

Athletics - $36.5 million

Revitalization - $25 million

Downtown Campus - $20 million

Though just a reminder that the Assembly's budget usually tends to be the highest spending version.

I literally just shat myself.

Let me be very clear--

If we get the:

campus center

business school

stadium

It would be a BEAUTIFUL DAY.

If we got 20m for the stadium I would be happy.

36M....gets us at least the stadium...and then time to work on the upgrades.

FYI...saw this post on the Buffalo board...

"Bruno voices high hopes for new governor

GOP leader vows to help boost Western New York economy

By Maki Becker NEWS STAFF REPORTER

Updated: 03/14/08 8:58 AM (Retrieved from buffalonews.com)

(Relevant Excerpt)

“I am saying to you: You can compete. We can compete, and we’re going to partner with you,” Bruno told members of the nonpartisan Italian-American group the Good Government Club of WNY....gathered Thursday night in Salvatore’s Italian Gardens....

He later told reporters that he is hopeful that a $3.7 billion program dubbed Upstate Now will help Western New York. In addition, Bruno pointed to the University at Buffalo’s plan to expand and build downtown as perfect examples of how government could help bolster the economy. Bruno also promised that Albany would be “supportive” and that the State Senate’s proposed budget includes “dollars to flow in this direction.” [Recall that Simpson has had one-on-one (a) meeting(s) with Bruno in the last few weeks]

Are capital funds those funds that get allocated to the school above and beyond normal operating costs and budget allowance? In other words, does the above-quoted $36.5 million for athletics include those normal costs associated with running our athletic program? Usually, "capital funds" are funds for investment, development, and growth, correct?

If $36.5 million comes in for athletic facility growth, that's a good start towards renovations for SEFCU Arena and a new football stadium.
