UALBANY MEN FINISH SIXTH AT IC4A CHAMPIONSHIP; WOMEN PLACE 23RD AT ECAC MEET

Boston, Mass. – Junior Jean Juste finished second in the 55-meter hurdles to lead UAlbany to a sixth-place finish at the IC4A Indoor Track & Field Championship on Sunday, March 9 at Boston University’s Track & Tennis Center. The Great Danes totaled 31 points at the two-day meet, while Georgetown captured the team title. The UAlbany women finished 23rd out of 53 teams at the ECAC Championship, held at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Juste, who placed fifth in the 55-meter hurdles at the 2007 IC4A meet, sprinted a personal-best time of 7.41 seconds to capture the silver. Juste, who is a starting defensive back on the UAlbany football team, advanced to the finals with a time of 7.47 seconds in the semifinals. Freshman Daniel Avery finished fourth in the event with a time of 7.44 seconds. Avery turned in the fastest time of his career and this season by a Great Dane in the semifinal round by crossing the finish line in 7.39 seconds. In the 55-meter dash, senior Dieuseul Joseph placed fifth, a repeat of his performance at the 2007 IC4A meet, in a career-best time of 6.38 seconds. Joseph recorded the same time in the event’s semifinals.

Senior David Parker (Niskayuna), the current America East Conference champion, finished second in the heptathlon with 5,246 points. Parker placed third at last season’s IC4A competition. Junior Freddie Wills registered an eighth-place performance with 5,032 points.

At the ECAC competition, junior Laura Cummings placed fifth in the 1,000-meter run in a season-best 2:51.92. In the triple jump, a pair of Great Danes scored points. Junior Jenn Gurrant was fourth with a leap of 40-feet, 11.75-inches and senior Arina Gerasimova came in fifth with a distance of 40-feet.
