Albany adds Arizona juco wing...

By Van Coleman van@hoopmasters.com

Will Brown and his Albany staff have signed a quality juco scorer in Louis Barraza...

According to our good friend Anthony Ray of Arizona Preps Louis Barraza 6-foot-5 wing from Yavapai CC of Prescott (Ariz.) has signed with the University at Albany.

The top freshman prospect in the Arizona Community

College Athletic Conference (ACCAC) this past season the 6-foot-5, 200-pound Barraza averaged 20.1 points per game, while shooting 50.3% from the field and 81.4% from the free-throw line.

He chose Albany over interrest from Duquesne, Hawaii, Florida International and Montana State.

Barraza was the freshman of the year in the ACCAC. Considering where the past ACCAC freshman of the year have gone it looks like a promising sign.

Last year Barraza's teamate Tom Whitehead won the award and this year is going to Creighton.

The year before that Andre Smith of Cochise won it. He's had a nice couple of years playing for George Mason.

Orlando Griego won it before that, then went on to play at Southern Utah of the Summit Conference.

Before that, Bryson Krueger won it and then went on to start at Arizona State.

Michel Nascimento went from Juco to playing pro in Germany.

Davin White won it, went to Cal State Northridge of the Big West and later to the Phoenix Suns.

Certainly no guarantees but it looks like a conference that produces plenty of talent.

Seems like a great addition.

A previous post indicated that he is a member of the Mexican National Team and expressed concern about the Olympic dates interfering with the start of UA practice.

Does anyone know this - has the Mexican National Team qualified for the Olympics?

3. When would he arrive if he will be playing for the Mexican National team? -statefan
Olympic finals and closing ceremonies are August 24. - UAalum 72

I don't know if he's on the Mexican final National games roster, they usually carry 15 but can only suit up 10-12(?) - Zo was on Germany's 15 man roster for the World Championships and got displaced by someguy named Dirk Nowitzki and didn't make the actual roster for the games.

In fact I don't know if they meant he's on their U20 or U21 team. I can't find much information to prove he is or isn't.

My guess is that Ahmadinejad would have gone nuclear if he hadn't gotten his nation's team into the contest.

By the way, I heard that he's starting a three-guard offense, all Republican Guards.
