2011 Budget Fiasco

The budget bills are much easier to read this year.

Operating funding:

Albany - $64,476,300

Binghamton - $47,364,500

Buffalo - $155,640,700

Stony Brook - $153,598,700

Looks UA got an additional $32,830,000 in capital appropriations for "Campus-wide projects, including Rehab/Preservation of Podium Structures".

Are you saying 64mil plus an additional 32mil for campus wide projects for a total of 96mil? Did any of the other three flagships get additional funds?

I have never been a fan of politics in general, and I know there is more to consider when evaluating these figures than current enrollment, but why is there such a large discrepancy for operating funds/enrollment for these schools?

  1. Albany $64,476,300.00 18,020 $3,578.04
    Binghamton $47,364,500.00 14,709 $3,220.10
    Buffalo $155,640,700.00 28,054 $5,547.90
    Stony Brook $153,598,700.00 24,681 $6,223.36

$64 mil is operating budget.

$33 mil is capital (building) fund

Other SUNY Centers also got capital funding in additio to operating budget:

Bing - $31 million - Campus wide projects, including exterior building reconstruction.

Buffalo - $66 million - Capmus wide projects, including Hayes Hall renovation

SBU - $75 million - campus wide projects, including rehab of mechanical systems

Now that I'm "emeritus" I don't read these things with same fervor, but for capital you've got to check to see if this is an appropriation of new funding, or re-appropriation of unexpended balance from previous budget. I seem to recall that re-location of the Data Center was a UA capital project originally funded in an earlier appropriation and I don't think that's even been started yet.

The $32 million mentioned above is this year's appropriation. The data center relocation is a re-appropriation listed in this year's budget, along with the Campus center, Business School and Husted Hall renovation.

I think you are correct though, that the data center relocation is not complete. Although I do believe its actually in process now though.
