Last week there was news of AAU booting Nebraska out, word comes today that Syracuse about to be booted as well.

 

???

I still can't believe UMBC and Alaska-Fairbanks are higher in the AAU criteria rankings than UA. That's an indictment of NY and SUNY, since it's more than just research dollars spent. It's also graduate programs, patents, etc.

My observation is that over the last 10 years, UA has finally started quickly moving in the right direction. I submit, this might be only my perception but for far to long UA was content being a nice little/big school instead of trying to be a world class University. With the somewhat recent huge influx of research $$$, programs being spun up like bachelors in Nano (if memory serves) with doctorate to follow, there appears to some urgency.

 

Clearly much work remains to be done, we are significantly behind SB and UB, but moving in the right direction.
