Women's conference championship game

Recommended Posts

Higher attendance last night than the championship game in Hartford two years ago and way higher than it was in Boston last year. Really happy to see that considering Hartford is the epicenter of women's hoops. I thought the crowd was terrific last night and we had the benefit of UMBC's band as well as ours.

I couldn't figure out who the woman who was standing up and yelling a few rows in front of me. I finally figured it out that it was Jess McGinley from our first DI team. If I'm not mistaken she was there with a bunch of players from that team and Coach Warner. They might have been having more fun than anyone in the building.

Between the amazing turn-around of this program, Julie Forster going from walk-on to all conference player and Megan Craig this team should get a pretty good amount of media coverage at the tourney this year. Lots of good stories there.

I thought I saw Rainey Lesane, our leading scorer from the D-III era, in that group of older (excuse me, former) players, and we saw Megan Buchanan and a couple of others at the Pub before the game. Nice that a game like this can bring people back.

I was thinking about how similar this Championship was to the Mens 2006 Championship. In the 2006 men's AE tournament, they defeated seeds #8 (UMBC), #5 (UNH) and #6 (UVM). They never had to play any of the other three of the top four seeded teams. In the 2012 women's AE tournament, they defeated seeds #7 (UVM), #6 (BingU) and #5 (UMBC). They also did not have to play the other three of the top four seeded teams.
