CAA looking for two full members?

New East Coast College Basketball League Possible

Lenn Robins - NY Post

Not sure why headline says "Basketball" - sounds like this is all sports, driven by Football

And we have to be involved in the discussions.

Most of those programs are in the Colonial Athletic Association but there are others in the America East Conference that could be in play. The timetable could be decided somewhat by the decisions made by George Mason and Virginia Commonwealth, two NCAA Tournament-proven programs.

I really hope the AEast football schools are banding together right now.

Pure speculation, but I am starting to think CCU, Liberty, UA and Stony Brook will all be phased into the new CAA over the next 2-3 years as ODU, GaSt, GMU and VCU are phased out.

CCU trustees just gave their school president unilateral authority to adjust budgets and conference affiliation. They're moving somewhere soon.

What needs to happen @ UA & SBU for both to have the same flexibility and opportunity to move?

Who knows. I know it was a political nightmare for us to move up to DI back in the day. I would imagine the SUNY Trustees need to approve it. Hopefully the Legislature doesn't have a say. It'll never get done then.

I don't remember any SUNY Central or legislative approval when SB went to the BS for football, or even our women's golf to the MAAC. Seems to be a department-level, or at most a school-level decision. Which league you're in is a different quality than whether to be D-III or D-I.

Hopefully that's true.

I wonder what it would take, if anything extra, for one of us to reclassify to FBS?

Can you imagine, UA FBS football!

If it were announced that we were moving to the CAA and getting full schollie fcs football,

that's all I'd need to hear right now.

Hmmm. I can also imagine the reaction of the usual suspects if we tried to build a BCS-level stadium, not just a minimum FCS field.

OTOH Pete Iorizzo's column today wants the Islanders to move to Albany  But in it he says "we're a major-league market trapped in a minor-league body". That's an attitude that says the media and public won't get behind something unless it's bigtime - FBS football, and even then they'd probably complain if it wasn't Big East.

How about stoking up a new rumor, that UAlbany wants to join the CAA...

MJeff, do you ever hear of talk that the CAA is interested in Albany,

or that UAlbany leaders are even interested in joining the CAA?
