Just checked on Verbal Commits and it looks like Jenkins may be gone after all. It says ERS, which I think is early release from scholarship or something like that. So we have a completely empty recruiting class as of now.

 

Anyone know of anyone else on the horizon?

I believe ERS stands for expected red shirt. If I recall Jenkins is in his third year of college so he sat out this past season to have 2 more of eligibility

I have faith in Brown and staff that they will get a good team together. It seems their strategy is have a core of 4 year players and augment them with Jucos. Core is Rowley, Stire, Cremo, Ennema and hopefully Nichols and McKinley and fill in the gaps with Jucos like Andrews, Peters and whoever else they bring in. I would like to see a split of 3 freshman and 1 Juco for this class but I think it is more likely to be 2 and 2 and possibly 3 Jucos and 1 freshman which would be my least favorite move.

I know Albany recruiting doesn't get much coverage and for all I know they could have the class pretty much completed already, but from what we do know I'm a little concerned. Signing period is like a month away and if no Jenkins there are 5 spots to fill. Looking at Verbal commits we have offers too:

 

Patrick Rooks, Denzel Smith and Godwin Boahen who look like they may get offers from high majors.

 

Boursiquot has 7 offers other than Albany

Mijakowski has 5 offers other than Albany

Jackson has 2 offers other than Albany

 

Like I said there is a lot we probably don't know, but I can't help being a little concerned here.

 

Also, maybe it's just me, but was hoping for a little bump in recruiting having gone to 3 NCAA's in a row and having a strong season this year.

I do think we're looking higher, some of those guys you listed are three star guys which is why there is more competition and some at a high level. I think Kyle McKinley has 7 other offers. That's a good sign, not a bad one as far as I'm concerned.

 

Slightly unrelated but I see Keanu Pinder just decommitted from New Mexico. He's an Australian SF we had been interested before he committed.

Not inferring or suggesting anything by posting this update here..but just saw that Kale Abrahamsson is transferring again. Did two years at Northwestern..then transferred to Drake where he just finished his junior year. I'm assuming he can graduate and go through the grad transfer route.

 

I believe we had interest in him coming out of HS..and he's Coach Abe's nephew (?).

Just as an FYI, women's basketball recruit Kaela Hilaire was up at Hudson Valley Community College tonight playing in the Class A state semifinals.

 

She is averaging over 30 points a game and around 8 assists for the season, and scored 26 tonight in a win. Her team faces Jamesville-DeWitt in the final at HVCC tomorrow (Saturday) night at 7PM.

 

She is a highly regarded recruit that didn't get major attention in part due to her size, but she will likely contribute immediately next year at UA.

Brown talking with Rodger mentioned getting a point guard who may compete with Nichols next year. Do we have a JUCO point guard coming in? (I don't keep as close of tabs on recruits as I should lol )

Recruiting is the lifeline of a program. We have some upcoming official visits. Need to close the deal and lock up the guys that we want!
