Albany to host Outdoor T&F Championships in 2015

Recommended Posts

Breaking into the rotation of Durham, Orono, Binghamton, and Baltimore. The story says we weren't scheduled to host until 2017, but New Hampshire will be renovating their facilities in next year. The championships had been hosted by Northeastern almost every year until they left the league.

In what hardly counts as news any more, the men won their eleventh straight America East outdoor championship, and the women won their seventh.

I sat in the old football bleachers for a couple of hours on Saturday after the men's lacrosse championship game, and I must say that although University Field did not provide a very good vantage point for football, it did for track and field. If I focused just hard enough I could still picture the gridiron action.

The Outdoor Championship story said "The Great Danes will take a hit, as any team will, with departures from the previous year. From last year’s team, the UAlbany men will compete without high jump champion Alex Bowen, long jump champion Kareem Morris, and decathlon champion Matthew Catera. The women will compete without 5,000 champion Silvia Del Fava, and 400 hurdles champion Tynelle Taylor-Chase."

Alex won the high jump and triple in the AE indoor championships in February, so he was around this semester, but I didn't see any results for him this outdoor season.

Recruits for T&F are listed: http://www.ualbanysports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_LANG=C&ATCLID=210273103&DB_OEM_ID=15800

Smaller class than usual, but some impressive times and/or distances.

One thing I am surprised by is the lack of distance recruits...one total for both genders. How does a school with such a rich T&F tradition have such a difficult time getting distance runners? (Especially being in a good recruiting area for it.)
