MBB vs. Maine, noon Friday

Recommended Posts

I guess these are the things you try when you can't get many people to come to your games. And from the article it seems several schools have backed out since they will not get back in time for regular dismissal.

Get over it. They are trying something different and allowing school aged children that might never make it to a game to experience something new. You guys act like you live in Florida or something. Does Albany ever get any weather? Guess what?.....Albany is a 7 hour trip for Maine as well. I don't see Maine coaches whining about every long trip they have to make.

I'm not complaining. I think it's great that they are getting some kids to the games. My post was about why the men's team would be doing it and I commented on that. It's gonna be fun to watch a game at work.

Who mentioned weather?

While the noon start on a weekday sucks (especially the morning after a 7 hour bus ride) I see the actual program as a cool thing. College is about education first. If there is something that will get kids excited about doing well in school because they saw a college campus and had fun at a game then that is awesome. Some of the kids might even go home excited and ask their parents to bring them to additional games.

You mean school-aged children whose schools are backing out of coming? O.K.

Forget that for a moment. Look, this is just poor all-around. First off, if I am in the athletic department of Maine, I do this game at noon for the kids if I am playing a predicted lower tier team in the conference. Firstly, it brings in a crowd that likely would not come for a non-know quantity, i.e. you should be getting more fans in the door for the top-tier of schools because of the draw of seeing a good team. Secondly, you want to give the kids a real show. Now...I am not saying that UA will win; frankly, we don't play well up in Maine, historically. However, on paper, UA should take this game. Their is a risk that it will turn a kid off if it is a bad loss.

My only point to this is that IMHO, this game was schedule for one reason and one reason alone: COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE.

Now you can start throwing bricks at me, Mainejeff...but really think about what i just wrote before you do.

College is about education first.

That's just crazy talk. :D

As far as this game being at noon. If it were one of our home games I wouldn't like it but it really doesn't work out that bad. They can play the game and still be home by a reasonable time tonight. If it were a Friday or Saturday night game they'd be travelling over the weekend with a Monday night game pending against Bing. Now I just need to arrange a two-hour lunch...
