UAlbany Signs Perry

Thanks for the Link

Jacksonville has sent 30 players DI from 1994-2002 - pretty impressive

Both of this year's backcourt players have signed DI - Perry was 3rd Team All Conference and his backcourt mate was 1st Team.

I would imagine Brown is well aware of his contractual situation and is trying to get the program going in the right direction. He's recruiting as many players as possible, many freshman players need to have time to adjust to DI play and finally they can be brought along properly rather than thrown to the wolves, like Jamar, Levi and Iati etc., who all were forced to play way too many minutes as freshman

There is no reason why the Danes can't play 5 guards during most games with 2 or 3 of the getting between 10-20 minute, if that's not enough to keep them happy then they have to make the best decision for themselves.

If you have 13 scholarships you should have 13 solid competitive players(unless you have a couple of BIG projects), every kid recruited DI come in thinking that they are going to be successful and start right away! That's probably why they're good at the level they came from.

Right now you have 8 players who aren't going anywhere

J. Wilson, L. Leveine, J. Knotts, "Q", C. Wyatt, K. Zoellner, L. Jordan, B. Perry

The guys who have to make decisions are the young guys - Iati, C. Johnson(walk on), and the 4 Freshman. I don't think Iati is going anywhere.

Each of the new recruits brings something different to the table.

Great DAne 01

Iati, Levi, and Courtney on the perimeter led the Danes to 5 win's! Jamar and Lucious are going to play major minutes and be studs. For the program to get better it needs better talent and more talent. Brown went out and got that.

If guy's are concerned about minutes and themselves and not winning then they need to grow up!!

The DAnes finally have alot of talent and Great Dane 01 wants to complain????

I think regardless of what you have you can't pass on a guy who has made 180+ threes over two seasons in one of the better JC Conferences in the country.

Perry is not a PG is he's an off guard

Here is what I would anticipate with the guards we have....

PG - Iati, Jamar with Courtney, Bauman and Lillis fighting for minutes.

2G - Jamar, Jordan with Perry, Lillis and Bauman fighting for minutes

3s - Jordan, Levi with Lillis fighting for time

Let's just say Jon Iati plays the 1, and does a halfway decent job. That would start Jamar at the 2 playing at least 30 minutes. Jamar starting at the 2 would put Lou at the 3, playing at least 30 minutes. You're telling me that no one will transfer with all the guards at these positions? You are absolutely crazy. There is no way that Brown can keep all of these kids happy. He's in the last year of his contract and he is going to have at the least 2 kids leave the program bc he has brought toomany in. Not very smart in my opinion. Kid's leaving the program will help him get fired, regardless if he goes 500 or not! Let's remember, Rick Carlile was coach of the year in the NBA and he got fired!

You're crazy. People could have said the same thing last year about Iati, then Jamar went down and we were undermanned.

Injuries happen, so you have to expect at least one injury. Also, as people have pointed out, not 100% of recruits will pan out. Expect one to flop or only be worthy of Martin-like minutes.

Plus if you think that you can't play four guards at a time in the America East, you're nuts. You can't do it game in, game out, but you can do it.

Then consider that some of the players only have two years remaining, such as Perry, Lucious, Kirsten, Levine. Aquawasi has one year left.

So unless the freshmen came in with unrealistic expectations of starting like Iati did last year, they can learn for a year or two under these veterans.

Courtney will be used as a defensive specialist. Don't expect him to play much since he can't or won't shoot.

Some games you can go with Jamar, Lucious, Levi. Then you can come back with Iati, Jamar, Lucious the next. Levi can play some four against smaller teams, harken back to 2002-03.

You can also make mass substitutions like this. Sub out your 1-3 players all at once.

Stay fresh.

If you think juggling too many players isn't a better problem than juggling too few, then you're nuts.

This conversation is truly amazing.

The Danes havea full squad of 13 scholarship players available for the first time since Brown has been here and instead of worrying about how they are going to produce we are worrying about who will transfer because of lack of playing time. Don't most schools use a full compliment of scholarship players and most of the teams play an 8 or 9 man rotation?

Brown has a team consisting of the following perimeter players

PGs - Iati, Jamar, Bauman(Fr) and walk on Johnson

2Gs - Jamar, Perry, Bauman

Wingmen/ Combos - Jordan, Levine and Lillis(Fr)

Each guy brings something different to the table

Iati is a PG who can bury the open shot and hit FTs

Jamar (I Think) is truly a special player who can play PG but is unstoppable from the 2.

Bauman is a Frosh who is talented but needs strength.

Johnson is a PG who is primarily a Defensive stopper.

Perry is not a PG he is a "pure shooter" 180 - 3s in 2 seasons JC ball at over 40%

Jordan is a MAN who in the AE will play the 3 more often than not. He is a penetrator who gets to the rack.

Levi will play some 3 but alot of 4 also.

Lillis is the most intriguing as he will be capable of playing the 1, 2 or 3 and at 6'4" adds alot of size to our backcourt.

Some freshmen need a year or two to adjust mentally and physically to DI ball. The possibility of redshirting is available until early December.

Hey our cross town friends(?) the $aints just recruited 4 guards who are all expected to contribute and they have Mitchell, Jordan and Beers returning - to name a few. But they're not concerned with who's leaving they're excited about who is coming.

It's probably a shock to the system for most of us who have only seen a UA team with 7 or 8 guys on the roster to see a team with 14 guys on the roster next year. We haven't seen a full roster in our five years of division I.

We'll see one next year.

And I'm looking forward to it. We'll hear the horn for subs next year and there will actually be UA players going into the game instead of guys playing 40 minutes. When somebody picks up two quick fouls Brown will look down the bench and have to decide between sending in Wyatt, Brent Wilson, Dyson, etc instead of deciding between Martin and Knotts like he did last year.

To be honest the only guy coming in I'm skeptical about is Bauman and I really see Perry as insurance to shore up the guards spot and give Bauman a year to develop.
