Rather than cut the cord completely; I switched to Verizon/Fios (note not available all areas). For $108 per month intro package; I get 1gb up & download internet, TV, and phone. Don't need land line phone, save another &10. For TV, I choose the "Sports & News" package. It includes espn-all, yes, sny, msg, fs1, fs2, btn, tbs, tru, (all ncaa tournament stations except cbssn), more, & all local stations. HBO free 1st year +15 after (i will than cancel). I expect they will try to jump the price mucho after 2 year agree. If they do I'll re-apply to Spectrum as now a new customer and get their intro package, also about $100 per month. I will play these two back and forth until one or the other gives me the intro deal for an extended period of time.

When my adult children advised me to "cut the cord." I found (maybe I did not look good enough, only so-so tech savvy.) you STILL had to PAY for a reliable high speed internet service/source. When you ACCOUNT for this expense, the cutting the chord plans:  direct netflix, amazon, sling direct, hulu, now yahoo, whatever, are not really any kind of savings? But like I said, maybe I just do not understand streaming like you millennials. You still need to pay $50, 60 -- $75 for an internet connection, plus whatever your cordless plan charges??????

At that price point you are golden. I was paying close to $190 for Spectrum 2 years ago and didn't even have HBO or any of that or a home line. I tried my usual trick and called like I did every year to get price reduced or I'm leaving, they called my bluff...I didn't bluff...left!

Man, as someone who works from home in IT but also does a lot of other stuff online, I'd almost kill for a 1GB line. That's bananas! Good on you!

But yes, you are correct. By the time you're done paying $pectrum (see what I did there?) $64.95/mo for their normal internet and then add your 2-3 streaming services, you're at $100+ anyway.

But then again, as Click says, you're still saving $60-100/mo compared to the old ways. My bill when I had DVR, etc. and basic channels + sports was $170 (with internet). I'm at $45/mo now with 100/10 internet and cable/SpectrumTV app paid for by my apartment complex. When I move that'll jump to $65-90 depending on internet and streaming services but still a far cry from $170 I was paying...

Verizon has got me at $192 right now (that's with land-line). Getting rid of land-line, cutting cable and keeping internet, with DirectTV Now plan I wanted cuts my bill by $40-$50 a month. It's happening come October.
