NJIT TO AMERICA EAST/POSERS TO CAA

Recommended Posts

SBU to the CAA is not yet confirmed, but it looks like it will happen (makes no sense to me, but it is what it is).

I like the AE with 9 teams and a 16 game basketball schedule - gave more OOC game possibilities. 8 teams isn't enough. The league will need to add another, and my bet would be CCSU.

If SBU does in fact move to the CAA and UA stays in the AE - I'd love to see an annual SUNY Basketball Challenge. 4 Team event with UA, Bing, SBU, and Buffalo. Rotate Host Cities. Double Header on Friday night for the first round, then double header on a Sunday with a championship and and a consolation game. Make sure that UA and Bing do not square off against each other in round 1 to minimize the chances of playing a league foe in a non-league game. Give out the SUNY Cup each year!

Hartford is leaving which leaves 8. I know everyone likes to crap on the MAAC and we don’t really fit the other schools profiles, but with Monmouth potentially leaving would I’d love to see Albany head there.

I know, this is why I mentioned the drop to 8 with SBU potentially leaving. So far, outside of Hartford leaving and NJIT joining, the AE has been fairly static for a long time. SBU leaving at the same time as Hartford means the AE is probably about to have a large upheaval. We can pontificate all we want but there is going to be a major rework coming soon.

That would certainly take care of the home and home requirement of the LCC series lol. One year the Cup Game is at SEFCU and the next year it is at whatever the arena is called now.

Curious why CAA snubbed UA. If trying to expand, why go out of conference and add Monmouth; when UA is already an affiliate {i.e football.}??  Why not make the full membership offer to UA that they are making to brook??

Also, curious does this end the rumor that brook planned on going FBS?? And Hofstra has blocked brook from full CAA membership for years. Does that mean Hofstra is moving out or just resigned to their fate.

AND IMHO if the CAA is really snubbing UA, time to look for another football conference. I know most would disagree and say where else COULD UA go. Also you may say leaving the CAA ,UA could/would be cutting off their nose to spite their face. But IMHO it has been a bad fit since day one; go back to the NEC if necessary, but why be a whipping boy where you are NOT wanted.

ps.  If brook goes full CAA, would AmEast lose auto qualifier in Lacrosse (be down to 6 teams)

The minimum is six teams, so OK for lax for now, but softball and volleyball need a one-year waiver to find a sixth team.

I'm not sure we wanted to go. In the past we didn't. Increase travel costs a ton to another 1 bid league.

Still begs the question was UA asked to join fully NOW??

It's a big guess but I would say yes. But we are 3 hours north of stony brook and they are north of everyone else.  So there are just too many travel costs. The revenue the caa can generate would not cover those costs.

Northeastern is still in the CAA and they play in Boston.

I'll be the contrarian, CAA is a better league for mens hoops...not sure about other sports. This is not a lateral from from the 26th rated conference to the 14th. That's not insignificant. Good for them while our useless AD does nothing but watch this program burn under his watch handing out contracts to losers...D3 is probably more his speed.
