UMBC Coach Ryan Odom Reportedly Landing New Job

https://thespun.com/college-hoops/umbc-coach-ryan-odom-reportedly-heading-utah-state

"Odom is expected to take the head coaching job at Utah State, where he’ll replace Craig Smith. Smith moved over to become the head coach at the University of Utah after leading the Aggies to an at-large NCAA Tournament bid this season."

I'm pretty sure everyone thought Odom was gone after the upset 16-1 upset a few years ago. Good for him

Gonna be a lot of new faces on the sidelines in the AE next season

Three is not really many....Odom to Utah State...good for him

Dunno whether this is the best place to post this or whether it deserves its own thread, but it sounds like Hartford is seriously considering going to D3. https://www.courant.com/sports/college/hc-sp-ncaa-uhart-20210409-20210409-jtxabswhcfearbzxppffkxtnse-story.html

Quote

Less than a month after gaining national attention in the NCAA Tournament, the University of Hartford is contemplating a drop in athletics from Division I to Division III, according to a television report.

“Look at the University of Hartford,” school president Gregory Woodward told WTNH-TV on Thursday. “How many of our players go pro, one or two a year, that’s not our goal. We will do the right thing for this university and all of our 7,000 students.”

[...]

“Everyone thinks, you make tournament you hit the jackpot,” Woodward told Channel 8. “We didn’t get a cent from the tournament. Congratulations to our great kids, but we are losing money doing this. I don’t think … the world understands is that everyone who plays Division I sports loses money, except for about 22 schools.”

As frustrating as games against Hartford are with Gal barking the entire time, this would be a huge blow to the conference and I really hope that it doesn't happen.

Don't really blame Hartford if they did move down. NOT that I am recommending they do so! But in their defense, the AmEast while NOT the bottom is pretty close to the bottom of  D1. Really don't know much about there reasons; but kind of the reverse of the song "NY-NY". If you can't make it here you can't make it anywhere. Also in their defense, I reiterate my long standing gripe that the NCAA does nothing/ or almost nothing to support mid majors. In fact, most/many of their rules make it pretty nearly impossible for mid majors to not only compete but to even exist.

And please don't misconstrue my post to mean UA should consider giving up on D1. Worked, wished, donated, attended  too hard for too many years to want UA to go back. Only wish the NCAA was not so incompetent or corrupt or whatever, and NOT make it so hard for STUDENT ATHLETES and MID MAJOR Universities to compete and prosper.
