Cancel culture

Colonial Quad is next.  It’ll change to murderous imperial colonizer quad.

What happens when the number of people who hate this country outnumber those who love it?  I guess we’ll find out.

I’ve applied for French citizenship so I have an escape hatch to an EU country... maybe there is a country where the citizens are still patriotic?

Can ask the Thompson’s brothers think about the name change of Indian Quad. Or better yet the current natives on our lax team 🤷‍♂️

None of those things have been "cancelled". You can still buy Mr Potato Head, you can still buy Dr Seuss books including those six that they recently decided to stop publishing because they contain racist and offensive stereotypes. Every library in the country has a copy of Huck Finn.

You're mad about manufactured controversies and it makes you look like Chicken Little

I’ll admit I used to have that mindset, but in the end you take a step back and say is this really going to effect me, most likely not! The term cancel culture is so beyond ridiculous.

I look forward to the coming age of the Communist Chinese.  For all their many many faults at least wokeism isn’t one of them.  I’d rather live under a Xi than AOC.

Trust me when I tell you this, as someone who's birth certificate is from the USSR, you do not want to live under Xi or any communist regime. AOC is stupid, yes, but still the better option.

This. While I think the rename to that specific word is ridiculous just because it is a 'tough' word for many that I've met (I am not against the rename in general), at the end of the day, it doesn't affect me. I have my hot take on it and then keep it movin. Same with the Washington Football Team, etc. Who cares?

Personally, I've unsubscribed from ALL news outlets on Facebook, etc. (including conservative ones that share my views) and my mental sanity has improved lol.

The only person or thing I can't stand is Andrew Cuomo. Otherwise, life will ebb and flow like it always has. You'll win some (conservative president for 4 years) and you'll lose some (liberal president for 4 or 8 years). In the grand scheme of things, it's not worth losing sleep over. I've got food, water, a roof over my head and too many creature comforts to list...what do I have to complain about? I could be living in a village somewhere in my native Ukraine without running house water, with an outhouse, no internet, etc. (I spent a week in such a village in 2018 - it was rough lol).

Schuyler Hall on Dutch Quad may be up for a name change or  might be relocated with his statue (in front of Albany City Hall) to Schuylerville, NY...

LOVE IT. Awesome idea.:D  I'd love to see Schuyler Hall on the back of a flatbed being hauled up the Northway!

My only problem with the so-called "cancel culture" is most of the times the people who could be offended aren't really offended and it's others who think those people should be offended who are pushing for these changes. There was a poll in the Washington Post a while back that showed 9 out of 10 Native Americans polled were not offended by the Redskins name. I'm not saying that I agree or disagree with any of it.  As Eli said, none of it really effects me so I don't really care much.  I just think sometimes people who are also NOT effected by it are the ones making the biggest stink about it when the people who they feel should be offended aren't offended.

Please stop with the whole “hate our country” nonsense that spews from certain corners of our media  You can love America and still want to fix the errors of its past.  That is how you grow a better society for the future.

The first victims of cancel culture but NOT the last

Mr Potato Head

Uncle Bens

Land ‘O Lakes

Huckleberry Fin

Dr Seuss

Clarence Thomas

75 million people who voted ‘wrong’

... “and then they came for me” (if anyone remembers actual history you’ll know this quote)

When does Ford drop the Lincoln brand?  When is Washington State renamed?  When is religion too problematic?

I look forward to the coming age of the Communist Chinese.  For all their many many faults at least wokeism isn’t one of them.  I’d rather live under a Xi than AOC.

You realize that all of those corporate brands were internal decisions.  And Dr Suess had abandoned and regretted those books years ago.  Probably not because it doesn’t fit the victimization narrative that the the “silent majority” likes to push

Btw, the right invented cancel culture.  Go look up the antics of Phyllis Schlafly or what country radio did to the Dixie Chicks. Many many years before AOC.

They also poured out French wine...that they already bought, which was incredibly amusing to me.  And there are 1000s of these as well.  The company I work for was faced with a boycott in 2019 because we dared show two women kissing at their wedding ceremony.  Love is Love people.

  • 4 weeks later...

Should’ve named it Thompson Family Quad....there, fixed it....

Somehow Aunt Jemima missed a list. I had an open box of that when it was announced. Thought about putting it in a safe deposit box in case it was worth something some day.

As for me, I’m looking forward to the Final Four from Indigenousapolis. Ciao!

In point of fact the publisher was pulling the copies of the Dr Seuss in question and would no longer be selling them.  “Mr Potato Head” would in fact no longer exist.   It would be rebranded so it does not exist.  If anyone here questioned this madness at work we would be fired... unless you have progressive privilege.

As an army brat born and raised mostly on military installations in Germany I visited many of these early critical race theory and cancel culture institutions in Germany such as Dachau.  I’ve been there many times as it was just outside of many US installations in Munich.  Additionally my grandfather spent 5 years in an institution run by these well meaning (Progressives of the day) Democratic National Socialists of Germany so I know this story all too well.  Start small progressives with your canceling speech and lean forward.

”and then they came for me” Mr Blorp.  When do you come for me?

You sound unhinged and totally divorced from reality. You're drawing connections between the name change of the Potato Head brand and concentration camps meant to exterminate Jewish people. If you brought this up at work, you'd rightfully be side-eyed by your coworkers because it is absolutely absurd. No one is saying you don't have a right to exist because you're an adult man that's obsessed with a children's toy.
