UAlbany 2022 Men's Lacrosse Season

Comparison, feel free to agree or disagree.  After several seasons of NCAA appearances, the past few seasons have had suspect recruiting, mediocre play, poor in-game adjustments, and a staff of former players.  Yes, I am talking about Marr and the Lax team BUT you can say the EXACT same thing a year ago about Brown and the bball team.  And look what decision was made by Benson even with 20 years of service by Brown.  Marr has 22 years so could Benson be thinking the same if this season( or two) is poor??

I could be off my rocker or 3 months from now, it happens.   Just seems eerily similar.

I am probably going to share a very unpopular hot take as well and say I agree with you. Scott probably has earned employment for life, but the loyalty to former players in terms of coaches has to end, and you need a staff that pushes you as a coach and the program forward. I will give them the benefit of the doubt of 2-3 games to see the improvement, but this is the same story since after the final four.

I just don't know how a staff decided five days before the first game of the season to ditch the offensive philosophy? What is gong on in fall ball and the time between getting the guys back on campus until now? How does the team not come back in shape? I just haven't seen the sort of player development you see at other top tier programs. The conditions looked pretty miserable, but that was a pretty pathetic showing. Cornell hadn't played a game in about two years and doubled us up.

I read that and what bothered me was not the change, but the fact that it took them until a week before the first game to realize we don't have there personnel to run a two way middle system.

I only watched the first 3qtrs. Had to pickup my friend for the basketball game. He asked me why I was so bummed the game was still within reach at that point. I basically answered with the exact sentiment you expressed above. I saw both fall ball games & the Colgate scrimmage and in Scott’s own words UA averaged over 15+goals in those 3 games. I am certainly no expert; but have been saying all winter that offense would not be a problem; while Scott has been praising the “experienced” D. Don’t have the experience to disagree with Coach; but if he had concerns about two way middies & scoring & middies playing D; like 2018 said these concerns should NOT have waited until the week of game1.

WAY too many TO,s. Can’t pick up a ground ball. Can’t clear. And players running up & down the field thinking the ball is in their stick; but it ain’t. I know it was cold out there; but you’d think at this level you have a feel for the ball in the stick. Not to pick on him but Gash at one point was still running towards the Cornell net; while a Cornell player was breaking in for a goal. Looked weird like he had no idea the play & ball going the other way???
He was not the only one; I’m sure I’m wrong; but just seemed the the whole game UA players did not know where the ball was. As a fan i often have trouble keeping track of where & who has the ball; never guessed players had the same issue.

I wish I could shed some more light on it, but was just able to rewatch with a good internet connection and it just looked like a team with no identity that didn't play well. I had no particular insights, but ever since the final four loss, and TD leaving it has been a team in search for something.

I concur with what many have said.  Surprisingly good FOGO.  Cornell was not a #13 team, in fact, I didn't think they played well at all.  We lost that game because we were not prepared, and that is ALL on the coaching staff.

Fundamentals were terrible, passing was force and lacking crispness, and honestly...we looked absolutely slow...even Gash looked slow (yes, I know it was cold).    At times we looked like we didn't know who the offense should go through.  For the life of me, I can't understand how we could be so horrible...not poor...horrible on clears.  There literally was zero adjustment.  That's on the coaching staff.

Defensively, I didn't think it was terrible.

Really poor outing and based on this season's schedule, we could be in a lot of trouble.

Agree 100%. By No means an expert but I've been saying since fall major issue with clears. I noted this again after the Colgate scrimmage; but commented that I assumed this would change when Ramos became the #1 goalie and Scott was just "looking" at the rest. Now Ramos is nowhere to be seen or heard {injured, graduated, transferred, dog goalhouse??) And 16 for 25 on clears yesterday. If I a nobody have noticed this since fall, I'm sure all our opponents have too? Also, coach says we have issues scoring; where is Yunker, UA's top returning points person??

Not that we are looking for excuses or want to invade the privacy of player; but as fans we could be more supportive/understanding if we at least had some basic idea about a player absence or even if he is absent??

25 turnovers is brutal especially how many they had after they battled back to make it close before halftime. They actually switched up from man to man to zone to stop the 5-0 run that was a good move and shows ability to make necessary adjustments. Enders was fine on face offs too gave them 50/50 chance at least. Goalie play in clearing game is noticeably different from last year starting breaks. Gotta get better quick as schedule will be tough

Still lamenting the switch from two way middies. I know there are only so many (maybe none)  McClancy's and Osika's out here. But I imagine even these two had to grow and be coached into the role. I doubt, they were born two way middies? I guess I get everyone wants to be a specialist, these days? But I have not seen much DEFENSE from the defensive midfield for a long time? Maybe the change {even though the timing was IMHO suspect), will yield results down the road I HOPE; but just don't know.

ps in 4 scrimmages and one regular season game UA is giving up +16 goals per game???
