Step down??

New Haven is a good D2 program.  It’s not FCS but he’ll get a chance to play at a competitive level and probably has a scholarship so good for him.   I’m happy for him.  At this level, very few kids are going to the pros so if you have a chance to be a starter, contribute and play on a competitive level, I say go for it.

Could Frank Rocco be in the mix as O line coach?  Anybody?   Lots of interest by UA players and coaches.........

I thought he was an equipment manager.  I don’t know anything about him possibly becoming a coach but I’d be shocked.  But, Coach Gattuso did hire  Coach Bernard as OC (his only OC experience was 1 year at the high school level).

yes, besides being an occasional caller on Wyland's radio show, Rocco also retrieves the tee after kickoffs.

Cool, maybe we can hire the guy in the Damian costume to coach the secondary, and I hear the lunch lady on state has some really good defensive schemes.

My bad I had no idea who he was.  Just saw twitter stuff.  The one I saw on twitter has had experience though

The point's moot now, but were they talking about former Delaware HC Danny Rocco?

Today's TU story on Ambrose's hiring includes:

Bill Nesselt, previously defensive line coach, becomes special teams coordinator and outside linebackers coach. He takes over the special teams from Damian Mincey, who left for the University of Massachusetts.

UAlbany's special teams struggled last season.

"I think he's going to bring a whole lot of energy to that, and that's what I think we need," Gattuso said.

In other moves, Will Fiacchi moves from wide receivers coach to tight ends and passing game coordinator, where he'll work with Ambrose. Jordan Orlovsky will coach the running backs.

Gattuso said he won't name defensive line and wide receiver coaches until Feb. 1.

Whoever Gattuso brings in or changes around is really the moot point. His depecrating comments, excuses, and "who and what we want to be" are moot as far as I'm concerned. He can't coach a pop-warner team IMHO. Also, If no-one is there to watch it, its like the tree falling in the woods, does it make a noise?

Mazon Walker to New Haven joining Dev Holmes and Damon Burton

Another player goes down a Division. He is probably better suited for that level.  Before I hear about how great New Haven is remember back when we were D3 we would regularly defeat D2 teams such as Springfield (they were D2 back then), Southern Conn, Central Conn etc.  Only the one player stayed on the same level.

Is that an indictment of recruiting, player development or both...you decide! But considering where these kids are going...

I actually agree with you on this 100% and is a shortcoming of this staff. They are not getting the right level player. I would say Undercuffler and clearly Verse w would qualify as the right kid.
