  1. Thanks all for keeping the info flowing. I fell asleep here in TN. but am excited for a new season, new coach, new players. Upped my giving to the University and hope there's a game in Nashville, Huntsville, or Memphis sometime soon. I may get to Lexington on the 22nd but that's a long haul (not saying there's a relationship btwn the 2 lol except for my interest in the college).

  2. Another win and without their star distance runner. https://ualbanysports.com/news/2020/2/22/womens-track-and-field-womens-track-field-wins-eighth-straight-america-east-indoor-title.aspx

Also, on a happy & sad note, alum Grace Claxton who has been my secretary and training for the Olympics for several years now (she was a semifinalist in the last Olympics) is moving on to train in Florida. Look for her in Tokyo 2020!!

  3. In this league, 2 guys is normally all a team gets for 'dependable' offense and that's if they are lucky to keep those 2 healthy. UMBC had 1 guy last year. Sometimes a surprise transfer comes in and then another kid is developed and maybe you get a surprise or a streaky shooter. But normally the rest are supporting cast and then it's up to the coach to work it.

Flory makes his #domore debut and will supposedly play significant minutes. I have low expectations after the injury, but I'm interested to see who will lose time with another player added to the mix. DeSousa showed some signs of life with a nice dunk in traffic against Manhattan, and I'd like to see him continue to get time and gain confidence. Flory can play the 2 or the 3 and the team has a lot of players in those roles. I'm thinking that at this moment the team looks like this:

    • 1: Clark, Miller, Brooks
    • 2: Healy, Flory, Fruscio (WO)
    • 3: Rizzuto, Campbell, deSousa
    • 4. Lulka, Lauderdale
    • 5. Hank, French
    • RS: Jerotic, Starks (may never play again)
    • Flory can play the 3, Rizzuto and Healy can play the one or the 2, and Campbell can play the 4.

It's a pretty versatile team. I think we all can agree with Brown that there is a chance that the team can be very good if they can figure out how to put it all together.

I'd love to see Brown sub more often and play more uptempo, but that just isn't his style.

Agreed on uptempo and subs. Entertaining in a year where W's will be hard. Might see more students with more Desousa dunks. Normally I appreciate a more deliberate approach and emphasis on D but this year, not so sure.

  5. Matchups?

    Projected starting five

Tajuan Agee, Jr., F: The 6-foot-9 transfer from Tyler (Texas) Junior College initially committed to New Mexico. Cluess raved about his upside, including inside-outside skills and athleticism. "He can be really good, like really, really special — one of the more special players we've had here," Cluess said.

E.J. Crawford, Jr., F: Crawford, who, along with McGill, is the only other returning player, has been a valuable player during his two seasons in New Rochelle. He's improved his conditioning and is expected to drive to the basket more after working mostly as a spot-up shooter.

Asante Gist, Jr., G: The rugged 5-foot-11 guard played high school ball for Bob Hurley at St. Anthony's. He transferred to Iona from Eastern Kentucky and was originally expected to sit the first semester before an NCAA waiver made him eligible immediately.

Rickey McGill, Sr., G: The all-MAAC guard was named first-team all-league this preseason. The Spring Valley native has won MAAC titles all three seasons and is expected to be the team's on-court leader.

Isaiah Still, Jr., G/F: Like Gist, Still arrives as a proven scorer who has already averaged double-digits at the Division I level. At 6-foot-6, the Robert Morris transfer is long and versatile, but he will have to improve his efficiency.

Jahnathan Maxwell, a 6-foot-8 forward who played at

    Top reserves

Payton Hudson, Fr., G: The former Stepinac product played last season at Our Savior Lutheran. He's strong for a freshman, which should allow him to contribute defensively early in his career.

Jahnathan Maxwell, Jr., F: The skilled 6-foot-8 junior-college transfer from Odessa (Texas) College broke a bone in his foot during the summer. He was out for five months and will need time to regain his conditioning. He's expected to play immediately and could be a starter later this season.

Niksa Nikolic, Jr., F: At 6-foot-8 and 235 pounds, the Serbian big man will give the Gaels some bulk in the paint. He could even get the nod over Agee or Still on opening night.

Ben Perez, Jr., G: The junior-college transfer began his career at San Diego State. He's a strong shooter who should contribute right away, in or out of the starting lineup.

Andrija Ristanovic, Fr., F: The 6-foot-11 redshirt freshman can stretch the floor. Like Maxwell, Ristanovic may soon play a bigger role, but just returned this week after a broken bone cost him six weeks. Although he has yet to play, he spent last season with the team.

I’m over Cremo and Nichols as far as the impact on UA. They are gone and that’s that. The rules allow them to leave as grad transfers so they’ve done nothing wrong. I’ve a huge problem with the one and done NBA feeder mills that laughingly call themselves college basketball programs. It’s not possible to tell the impact of the two in terms of good will and publicity when Albany gets mentioned. Brown has signed grad transfers and so we shouldn’t kick when our guys leave. I root for local kids no matter where they play, so Cremo gets my support. Nichols was just passing through. I don’t wish him ill will at all.

Yup, many difficulties this year are on Coach B for not playing subs more last year. We had a mediocre result in a basement conference. Hope Coach B learns and plays a deeper bench.
