Namesake of our football stadium

Casey, Mary R. ALBANY Mary R. (D'Amico) Casey, 85, passed away Sunday, August 19, 2018, surrounded by her family at Albany Medical Center Hospital. Born in Schenectady, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Rose (Restifo) D'Amico. She graduated from Albany High School class of 1950 and later was the cheerleading coach at St. Joseph's Academy. Mary was the beloved wife of Thomas P. Casey Jr. who predeceased her in 2005. While her children were in school, she was an active member of St. Teresa of Avila PTA, a Girl Scout leader, and member of the National Little League Women's Auxiliary. Mary was a member of the Knight's of Columbus Columbiettes Council 173. She was also a long-time Communicant of St. Teresa of Avila Church and the Parish of Mater Christi. A loving wife and mother, Mary was devoted to her family and was happiest when she was surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include her children, Sharon Duker (William), Thomas Casey (Deborah) and Melissa Faas (Michael); her grandchildren, Lauren Powell (Richard), Jessica Perrott (Michael), Meghan Wilkinson (Curtis), West Duker, Alexandra Faas, and Michael Faas; seven great-grandchildren; her brother-in-law Edward Shatraw and sister-in-law Marcia Hogan (Joseph); and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Concetto and Charles D'Amico. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with her family Wednesday, August 22 from 3-7 p.m. in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, Inc., 490 Delaware Ave. Her funeral services will be held Thursday, August 23 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home thence to the Parish of Mater Christi, where her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Entombment will follow the Mass in the mausoleum of St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. Those who wish may send donations in memory of Mary to Great Dane Athletic Club (GDAC), University at Albany Foundation, 1400 Washington Ave. Albany, NY 12222 or to Bernard and Millie Duker Children's Hospital, 43 New Scotland Ave., MC 119, Albany, NY 12208.
