I'm pretty sure it use to be 12pm. A few years ago they made the move to 11am. Can anyone confirm?

It's been at 11 for a while. Wasn't our first in 2006 at 11 or 11:30? In any case, I actually like the timing. Wake up early for the first big game of the day, grab food and/or beer for breakfast, sun rises first in the Northeast sort of thing. It's gotten to be a bit of a tradition, yeah?

I don't see what the issue is with the time. I would rather the championship game be played on a late Saturday morning as oppose to prime time during the weekday or later during the Saturday where it would get lost in the shuffle of the bigger conferences semifinal and finals. Its the only game on at the time and allows for fans that may not be in the area the opportunity to attend the game. Even the MAAC game had to go up against the WCC semifinals which overshadowed it in terms of national coverage
I doubt any recruit is going to base their decision on the America east championship game at anytime of the day.

The later start time is more beneficial to building a fan base and connecting back alums. 11am on a Saturday just doesn't do it. It has nothing to do with going up against other conferences. That's all. I'd love to go Saturday, but leaving at 2-3:00 in the morning doesn't work.

I am not saying any recruit would base their decision to attend a school on the time of their championship game.

But for two hours there is not another college basketball game on in the country. The following conferences have their semi finals or finals this coming Saturday: ACC, Big East, American, BIg Ten, ACC, Big 12. There is no way in hell the AE could compete against them.

Can we avoid a PIG if we can find a way to win Satrday?

    unfortunately I don't think so.
I disagree... One of the schools already in has an rpi much lower then ours... The NEC champion will be in play in game... That leaves 2 more... A win at Vermont would push our RPI at least 20 spots... Depends what happens in other conference tournaments but I think we have better then a 50/50 shot ...

I was about to post the same thing. The NEC, Southland and MEAC champ will have a worse RPI. Jacsonville St out of the OVC already does. U-W Milwaukee is one win away from the Horizon League autobid with a RPI of 250+. The BIg Sky and Big West champs will also most like have a worse RPI. And that is ignoring potential upsets that could occur in the MAC, IVY League, and WAC tournaments.

  4. Being in the top 25 or receiving votes is not a metric that the selection committee uses. SMU got left out of the NCAA tournament a few years ago and they were ranked. A similar situation occurred with Utah State in the mid 2000s.

For a team from the AE to get an at large, the conference RPI would probably need to be around 15, with the team getting an at large going 28-3 type record before the conference tournament with a few top 50/100 wins and an RPI around 30s.

I had a nice chat with Xavier before the growl. He just got cleared for some contact. He said he feels good and is working on his conditioning. Seems like a really nice kid.

Thats what I heard... Im told hell be fully cleared early March.

Can Xavier and Lands take medical redshirts or did Lands play too much?

Heard lands will need a waiver so probably not... Xavier yes!

I am no expert on the NCAA rules but wouldn't a waiver be needed for any player taking a medical redshirt? Couldn't Xavier use a regular redshirt and still have a medical redshirt available to him in the event he ever got injured again?

  6. It may not happen often but those two are the most likely candidates to transfer.

Cochran should be a redshirt sophomore next year as this is his second year out of high school so he still has 3 years of eligibility remaining.

If Lands does not play again this season he should be able to receive a medical redshirt as he has played less this year than Charles did and Charles was able to receive a medical redshirt.

  7. We are definitely being over critical, but the mistakes haven't been because the team was outmatched. They have the talent. The problem seems to be failure to protect the ball and bad decisions. When you watch them dominate for periods then throw the ball away and miss free throws, it gets frustrating. Maybe this will end up like the 13-14 team. That team took a while to gel. They lost some fairly easy games in the OOC that year, then proceeded to go 15-1 in the AE.

Couldn't agree more. The team is making too many lazy passes and needs to commit to playing defense for 40 minutes.

  8. After attending both games, here are some of my thoughts and impressions

    - I was really impresses with Nichols play and attitude this weekend. He made some "hustle" plays and right before UA made the run against GCU he was telling his teammates it was unacceptable getting beat on the same plays on defense

    - Grayson definitely seems more comfortable than he did last week. I am sure some part of that comes from not playing high major teams. He seems to have the ability to hit a clutch 3 when it is needed. If the backcourt can get on the page they will give opposing teams nightmares in conference play.

    - The front court lack of available depth caused issues in both games. Charles, Stire and Rowley either fouled out or ended both games with 4 fouls each. They couldn't afford the be aggressive late in either game. Martin-Garcia looked lost out there for the few minutes he played against GCU. I don't believe he was able to practiced urging the preseason while his eligibility was an issue so it is understandable and am not knocking the guy. Hopefully he gets up to speed quickly and Lands isn't out for too long.

    - Will Brown ripped the entire team a new one at the last media timeout in the first half last night. one of the Mohegan sun employees standing behind the team bench was making faces while brown was yelling at them. It was absolutely priceless.

    - The main area of concerns that I see for the team are defense, passing, and trying to break the press. When brown pressed last night the team looked out of place. They can expect that for 40 minutes next Sunday night.

  9. Just checked on Verbal Commits and it looks like Jenkins may be gone after all. It says ERS, which I think is early release from scholarship or something like that. So we have a completely empty recruiting class as of now.

Anyone know of anyone else on the horizon?

I believe ERS stands for expected red shirt. If I recall Jenkins is in his third year of college so he sat out this past season to have 2 more of eligibility
