The road to Ankara

June 15, 2:40 p.m.

Learn some Turkish and do it quick, Binghamton fans, because you're about to see some imports.

Though it's not official yet, Binghamton's Al Walker is trying to hire former Western Carolina staffer Ali Ton to replace assistant coach Brian Bidlingmyer, who joined Rob Jeter's new staff at Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Ton, a former Davidson guard and the son of a professional coach in Turkey, helped recruit some of that country's best young players to Western Carolina. Binghamton happens to have a sizable Turkish population, which will make that school receptive to the overtures Ton is sure to make. And might already be making.

Ton is currently overseas, helping prepare a Turkish national team for the European Championships.
