The Rock Bridge boys basketball team successfully defended its championship at the Bank Midwest/William Jewell Holiday Basketball Classic, defeating Raymore-Peculiar 65-39 last night in the Cardinal Division championship game in Liberty. The Bruins improved to 10-1 with their eighth consecutive victory.

"We really played well," Bruins Coach Jim Scanlon said. "This was one of our better games we’ve played this year, especially in the second half."

After taking a 30-22 halftime lead, Rock Bridge outscored Ray-Pec (4-3) 35-17 in the second half. The Bruins exploded for 26 points in the fourth quarter.

"We really played a solid, smart game in the second half," Scanlon said. "We were really unselfish and everyone contributed."

Alex Austin led Rock Bridge with a game-high 23 points and was named to the all-tournament team along with center Brett Gifford. Chad Jones-Hicks added 10 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots. Logan Gray also scored 10 for the Bruins.

Rock Bridge next hosts Hogan Prep Academy Friday night.
