UALBANY’S GERED BURNS CHOSEN ECAC DIVISION I TRACK CO-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Centerville, Mass. – University at Albany’s Gered Burns has been named the ECAC Division I Men’s Track Co-Athlete of the Week for a second time this season as announced by the league office on Tuesday, Feb. 17. The sophomore sprinter shared the honor with Navy’s Erik Schmidt.

Burns won the 800-meter run with a NCAA-provisional time of 1:50.15 at the fourth annual New Balance Armory Collegiate Invitational on Sunday, Feb. 14 in New York City. He beat a 54-athlete field, including the second-place finisher by more than three seconds.

A native of Altamont, N.Y., Burns eclipsed Kristof Molnar’s school standard mark of 1:50.33 which was set last January at Boston U.’s Terrier Invitational. Burns’ time provisionally qualifies him for the NCAA Championships on March 12-13 in Fayetteville, Ark.

UAlbany will compete at the America East Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Feb. 20-21 in Boston, Mass. The Great Danes are defending conference champions.
