At Pitt-Johnstown, Brent Ferko scored 25 points while David Bauman and Chris Plocki added 15 each, as Freeport (17-6) defeated North Star, 70-60, in the second round of the PIAA Class AA playoffs for just the third time in school history. Freeport led by as many as 23 before finishing off the late-charging Cougars (23-5), District 5 champions.

North Star guard Drew Shubik scored a game-high 26 points, 21 in the fourth quarter. Shubik, a Sacred Heart recruit, made 6 of 15 shots and 12 of 13 free throws. Plocki had eight in the first quarter as Freeport built a 22-14 advantage.

"To have Shubik score five in the first and 21, most of them at the foul line, in the fourth, we'll trade that any day," said Freeport coach Garrie Davies. "We didn't want to let him take over."
