  1. While I hesitate to state that I am an attorney I hasten to admit I know nothing about the "laws" surrounding the questions which a college can ask an applicant for admission. I find it incredible that a college cannot ask an applicant what their outside interests are. You have to ask such questions in order to have a diverse student body. It is not illegal to like to watch athletes perform. If it is then it has to be illegal to watch actors perform.

When I applied to Siena and they asked for my perspective on pedophilia, was that wrong?

  2. I'm still amazed that we have not been able to lure students to games.over all these years.

Not having lived in Albany for many years, I've enjoyed watching many UA games via new technology. In recent years, though, I admit to having lost some interest. On Sunday I was in an airport and watched most of the UA-SB game on my laptop. I've become so cynical that the blown 10 point lead was very expected and all too familiar.

Had I never moved away, I'm sure I'd have attended hundreds of games, but I'm not sure my own enthusiasm would not have waned some by now.The disappointments, game after game, would have worn me down.

I suppose students can find more exciting things to do.

  3. In this deal, UA has to win the game decisively for three or four consecutive years. Last year's loss did so much damage. We have to make their fans get up to leave with 10 minutes left in the game then plant our flag in the seats they left behind. They need to be humiliated over several years - then we'll hold the cards and decide exactly if, when, and where its in our best interest to schedule them. For now, they laugh at us.

Based on that quotation I think it's clear that Coach Brown gets it. If you want him to say something like "yeah, I hate those mother f*ckers" then you might be waiting for a while.

Yeah, I would like him to say something like that. Maybe substitue 'father' for 'mother'. Doc might not have said it - but I always knew he was thinking it.

Anyway, I'm not flying up there for this game anymore. We need a new agreement. Nobody puts Kingdane in a corner.

  5. After the pain of last year's game I decided to take a year off. I check scores and summaries and have enjoyed it so far. Very excited. If we go to the tournament - I'll be there.

As long as our coach tells the paper saying 'this is just another game' I can't respect him. They make us play in their arena, they make us sit in the corners with Stevie Wonder site lines, we have to look at their turdy signs and logos and the logos of their McRivals, they stole our dog mascot out of papal guilt over the whole Indian boys/syphillis scandal, their fat old Albany fans with their fat old wives sit at mid-court with nothing but disdain for UA and see us all as public university socialists, and then we go out an blow 19 point leads to them. And Coach Brown says...its a great rivalry but really its just another game.

I want to be the assistant bench coach next year just for this game. Please start a campaign to give me that honor as my years wane.

  6. Danes v Siena (as the home team) in a bracketbuster game?

#1 After we disembowel them the afternoon of 12/2, as a prelude to their MAAC season, Siena will be as likely to secure a post season bracket as will NJIT.

#2 They don't want us because then they'd have to come to our house the next year. [There's not enough air freshener on earth to remedy that possibility].

  7. If I'm reading correctly, a young man, a student, for whatever reason wishes to leave one college and seek admittance and a scholarship at another - and is being denied that opportunity by the school president.

Is the student an indentured servant? Shouldn't the president of the college, one who's primary responsibility is to inspire and encourage the advancement of learning and individual development - hold the best interest of the student as primary?

For whatever reason, if any student, after sufficient consultation decides to move on - he should not only be permitted, he should be encouraged to follow his dreams and pursue opportunities elsewhere. If it doesn't work out, well, that is life - that is how each of us grows and develops.

What Siena should be doing is looking inward. What is it specifically, that initially attracts young and talented men - only to have them wish to depart prematurely.

  8. From the Siena/Haddox blog:

"I know I haven’t wrote for a while, but some things need to be addressed. First of all, I hate to see Kojo go. I wish him the best and I don’t agree with his decision, but he is his own person, but if you think at all that we are going to take a step backwards, you’re highly mistaken. We are gonna come out and win it all just like we were going to do when he was here. I am confident in who we have and this just means each of us have to step up a little bit more. We are still gonna take this thing, no doubt, and my biggest disappointment right now is that Kojo is not gonna be with us to enjoy the championship that we are gonna bring home. Keep the faith"

Do they teach English courses in Loudenville? Haddix has a blog?

  9. How much time is going to pass between the return from China and the tip-off against Bucknell?

Hopefully enough time to put some weight back on from the certain stomach flu, SARS, and everything else they're going to get refilling their plates in some Beijing buffet. (not to mention any sores and lesions acquired in the red-lit back alleys of Shanghai). And all that before jetlag.

I don't want to be reading you guys making excuses about the Danes looking flat on Nov 11 because of their recent China trip. IT TAKES AT LEAST 2 WEEKS TO RECOVER FROM A TRIP TO CHINA.

  10. Had we not lost to the crown jewel last year they'd have absolutely no argument and not a splinter of a platform from which to crow.

Unfortunately, head to head, we were beaten. Once this is remedied in December, they can continue the one-sport plunge into the mediocrity which is likely to be their lot for many years to come. Once that win is under our jockstraps, any arguments from Loudenville will become laughable.
