  1. S-Tony, can you speak any more patronizingly? You speak about the great advantages UAlbany will reap by participating. 'Should WE make it back - it might help to get us a better seed'. Don't be lecturing anyone about the advantages of a higher seed - all based on the lightning Siena caught in a bottle one season long ago.

Who the hell are you? Should YOU make it back, it might help YOU get a better seed. I'm confident UAlbany will be back long before loudenville.

  2. I think Mr. Brian Hughes and Mr. Craig Allen sound just like people tend to sound when they feel it slipping away. Next ... they won't want to play Albany anymore. "what do we have to gain?" "We were here first".

Go back to the D1 Siena v D111 Albany game in 1977 - the 'final meeting' - Albany whipped their 'big-time' tails, at Siena's own rats nest.

    Crybabies. They always were.

  3. I'd like to get a video of the game.

I registered for on the AE board and tried to send a message to Alberts11. I'm not given the required credentials and the AE board doesn't respond to me.

Although I'm quite used to people ignoring me, its created some frustration this time that's above and beyond.

    Any suggestions? Thanks.

  4. It's all business.

If a bigger program wants Will Brown it will likely be a hard sell, but everything is for sale in this world - including college basketball coaches. Offers are made every day that can't be refused.

If Albany wants Will Brown to stay they should have him contractually committed, period.

Speculation about his family likes Albany, or what he said or didn't say, or ties to Long Island - all may be true, but a strong salesman from another school knows all about these feelings and statements and builds them into the sales strategy.

I too, hate the fact that this is an issue so soon after one of the greatest sporting events I ever attended. I suspect its going to turn out well, but until its done, its never done.

  5. Against all odds: where did thirteen states unite to kick England's ass out?

Against all odds: where did Betsy Ross take three different colored rolls of crepe papers and sew them into a banner that's lasted 230 years?

Against all odds: where did a bottle of milk left outside in the sun turn into the tastiest brand of cream cheese?

Against all odds: where did a washed up, left handed, Italian heavyweight unseat the Champion of the World?

  6. Todays T-U: Zoellner is happy to be back in the tournament.

I suppose he's worked hard to become better, but a school like Boston College does not ever let a 7-1 guy escape if there is even a speck of potential at all. BC had to consider him below 'project' level.

Without questioning his character and effort, my observation has been that he does little more than 'take up space' - which is how several have described his most valuable attribute. He is slower than the speed of a game, he has difficulty handling passes or passing, he does not grab rebounds that hit his hands, he is often out of position to get rebounds, he has a bad sense of where he should be and where everyone else is, and he does not seem to communicate well verbally or silently, as five guys on the court must do.

To predict that he can not compete with the CT big men is not a valid criticism because very few can. I think though, that our best minutes will come tomorrow night with Zoellner on the bench.

  7. One more thing about the article -

If Etkind had happened upon a dozen Albany students who answered all his questions ('A' students in his literary piece), would the article have been "No bandwagon fans at Albany" or "Albany Students know their Danes", or "I had an a-hole premise and Dane fans sure proved me wrong".

    I doubt it.

His article would have then been, "Danes to dance in tradition of Saints"

  8. There is no defense for the tone or content of the article. There are students on the Duke, CT, and UCLA campus that wouldn't know a basketball from a soccer ball. Finding them and using them to ridicule the program is not a story. And his trying to capture a negative by writing a story from such a ridiculous angle makes him not a journalist - which he wasn't in his last job in Tampa.

But, I'm a Dane in Tampa, and I know the answers - AND I WILL BE IN PHILLY ON FRIDAY NIGHT !!!

It may not end up the way we want but along the way I think we'll see some huskies bitch slapped and mounted by some Danes.

  9. "While basketball has been slow to come around and our coach's have had some learning pains, WILL BROWN, his staff, and those players just single handidly put us on the map both in the Capital District and nationally."

Slow to come around? Since we've gone to D 1 the 'coming around' has been spectacular. If the rate of success in the next 5 years is as dramatic as in the past 5 years - we will have arrived! Albany is New York State's central university and is no different than Texas, Minnesota, etc. They all have branches, some at the D1 level, but the branches are never as successful. (i.e. UNC Wilmington).

The 'slow' part was all those D3 decades where Doc did the best he could with what he got.

What I want to hear on CBS Friday night is "let's take you back to Philadelphia where something very interesting is going on late in the game..."

    Go Danes
