Buchanan Receives All-American Honors

BLAIR BUCHANAN NAMED AVCA HONORABLE MENTION ALL-AMERICAN

 

Albany, N.Y. – UAlbany sophomore setter Blair Buchanan was named an honorable mention All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association on Wednesday, Dec. 15. Buchanan, the lone America East Conference player on the squad, is the first UAlbany volleyball athlete to earn Division I All-America recognition.

 

Buchanan, the America East player and setter of the year, became the first student-athlete in conference history to capture both awards in the same season. She tallied 1,448 assists to establish the school record for a single season. Buchanan averaged a conference-best 12.59 assists per game and 2.39 digs. The tri-captain registered at least 50 assists in nine matches and set a school record with 71 helpers in a win over Stony Brook.

 

Buchanan was recognized by the AVCA earlier this month after being selected to the All-Northeast Region team.

 

UAlbany (27-7) captured its first-ever America East regular-season and tournament championships this season. The Great Danes became the first women’s program in school history to qualify for an NCAA Division I Tournament.
